    Abstract: The present invention provides a light emitting device that comprises a luminescent layer formed of a monomolecular film of quantum dots and has enhanced brightness and luminescence efficiency. A light emitting device 1 comprises at least an anode 3, a hole transport luminescent layer 5 formed of a material containing a hole transport material and quantum dots 11, an electron transport layer 7, and a cathode 4 provided in that order. The light emitting device 1 is constructed so that the hole mobility of the electron transport layer 7 is smaller than that of tris(8-quinolinolato)aluminum complex (Alq3), and, in the hole transport luminescent layer 5, excitons generated in the electron transport layer 7 migrate into the luminescent layer to emit light.

    Abstract: A process for producing an electroluminescent device comprises the steps of preparing a substrate 1, forming a first electrode layer 2 on the substrate 1, and forming a luminescent layer 3 on the first electrode layer 2 by applying a luminescent-layer-forming coating liquid containing quantum dots 22, each quantum dot 22 being surrounded by organic ligands 21. After the luminescent-layer-forming step, the step of removing the organic ligands 21 from the quantum dots 22 by subjecting the luminescent layer 3 to UV-ozone cleaning is performed. After the organic-ligand-removing step, the step of forming a second electrode layer 4 on the luminescent layer 3 in which the organic ligands 21 have been removed from the quantum dots 22 is performed.

    Abstract: A primary object of this invention is to provide a manufacturing method for an EL element, which can facilitate patterning for a luminescent layer containing quantum dots. This method includes: a wettability-changing-layer-forming step for forming a wettability changing layer containing a photocatalyst, on a substrate having a first electrode layer formed thereon, wherein wettability of the wettability-changing layer is changed by an effect of the photocatalyst associated with irradiation with energy; and a wettability-changing-pattern forming step for forming a wettability changing pattern composed of lyophilic regions and liquid-repellent regions, on a surface of the wettability changing layer, by irradiating the wettability changing layer with energy in a patterning manner. Additionally, in this method, a luminescent layer is formed onto each lyophilic region, by coating a luminescent-layer-forming coating liquid containing the quantum dots, around each of which ligands are attached.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method for manufacturing an electroluminescence element that has a light emitting layer containing a quantum dot and exhibits excellent life characteristics. In the method, patterning of the light emitting layer can be stably performed by a lift-off method. A photoresist layer is formed on a substrate having a first electrode layer. The photoresist layer is then exposed, developed, and patterned to ensure that a portion of the photoresist layer, which is located in a light emission area, is removed. A coating liquid containing a quantum dot having a silane coupling agent attached to the surface thereof is coated on the resultant substrate having the patterned photoresist layer and cured to form a light emitting layer. The remaining photoresist layer is then removed to lift off a portion of the light emitting layer, which is present on the photoresist layer.
