  • Patent number: 6115537
Abstract: In a digital signal recording and reproducing apparatus, digital input data is transmitted in a transmission packet format and is recorded in a recording packet format. In a recording stage, an auxiliary signal generator (3) generates an auxiliary signal for special reproduction in the transmission packet format, and the digital and auxiliary signals are converted into respective recording packets by means of recording signal converters (5, 6). Recording means (9, 10) performs a specific recording process on the recording packets and an identification signal for identifying between the recording packets of the digital signal and of the auxiliary signal. While in a reproducing stage, reproduction signal processing means (14, 15) performs a specific reproduction process on the reproduction signal to thereby reconstruct the recording packets and the identification signal.

  • Patent number: 6038094
Abstract: A plurality of digital signals having total data rates of n bit/s or less are input to a digital recording device recording digital signals having a data rate of n bit/s. The digital signals are subjected to format-conversion for the digital recording device to be recorded therein. Furthermore, signals having a data rate of n/i.sub.1 bit/s or less are subjected to format-conversion to be recorded i.sub.1 times in the digital recording device. In the case where the data rate of the digital signals to be input is n/j bit/s, the digital signals are subjected to format-conversion so that the amount of data capable of being recorded per unit time is decreased by i/j; thus, the digital signals are recorded for a long period of time under the condition that the data recording time is prolonged j times.

  • Patent number: 6031959
Abstract: The video signal input is converted to high-speed reproduction data by a high-speed reproduction data encoder 1. The video signal input is converted to high-speed reproduction data by a formatter 2, which formats the high-speed reproduction data so that the same data is recorded to n tracks. After the recorded data is input to an error correction encoder 3, it is decoded by a decoder 4 and recorded by a recording head 5 to the magnetic tape 6. During reproduction, the recorded data is reproduced by reproduction head 7 from the magnetic tape 6, and decoded by decoder 8. The decoded data is then error corrected by an error correction decoder 9, and then input to a deformatter 10. The deformatter 10 separates the normal reproduction data from the high-speed reproduction data, and separately outputs both data types.

  • Patent number: 6018609
Abstract: In a compressed signal recording and reproducing apparatus, a table-of-contents generator extracts user selected representative frames from among frames of an input compressed television signal that can be identified by specified additional information, and generates table-of-contents data representing contents of a specified number of the user selected representative frames. A recording signal processor arranges the input compressed television signal, table-of-contents data, and positional information relating to positions for recording the individual user selected representative frames data, respectively, at specified positions of the recording medium. The apparatus further includes a reproduction signal processor for outputting table-of-contents data recorded at a specified position in the recording medium for exhibiting contents of a plurality of user selected representative frames, from among the reproduction data.

  • Patent number: 5953486
Abstract: A recording apparatus for recording digital signals to plural tracks formed sequentially on a tape using plural heads includes a first selector for selecting the first through n track sets, continuous tracks within the plural tracks formed on the tape. A disposer disposes the first through k separated high speed reproduction data areas to the same positions in each of the m tracks comprising the first through n track sets. A first recording unit records the same high speed reproduction data to the same track position in at least the tracks having the same azimuth within the m*k high speed reproduction data areas belonging to the same track set. A second selector selects the n+1 through n+N, each track set comprising M tracks selected from among the tracks to which the high speed reproduction data areas are not disposed. A second disposer disposes a continuous very-high speed reproduction data area to the same position in each of the M tracks forming the n+1 through n+N track sets.

  • Patent number: 5841941
Abstract: A recording and reproducing apparatus for an input encoded data stream having two different bit rates N.sub.1 and N.sub.2, where N.sub.1 <N.sub.2. The recording and reproducing apparatus includes: an input interface for outputting the input encoded data stream to two channels; recording processors, connected to the outputs of the input interface, for converting the input encoded data stream into a signal suitable for writing onto a magnetic tape by a recording head; a tape speed controller for varying the speed of the magnetic tape in accordance with the bit rates of the input encoded data stream; a reproducing head for reading the signal from the magnetic tape; reproducing processors for processing a reproduced signal; and an output interface. The input interface divides and outputs the input encoded data stream to both of the two channels when the bit rate of the input encoded data stream is N.sub.

  • Patent number: 5587806
Abstract: An apparatus records and reproduces high efficiency coded video signal to and from a recording medium and includes an important data generating circuit for generating at least an important data from an input video signal, a data arranging circuit for arranging the important data so as to be recorded at predetermined positions, and a recording and reproduction control circuit for controlling recording and reproducing operations. The input video signal is separated into information common to each large block and information native to small blocks of the each large block. A coding mode of each of the small blocks thus separated is judged. The input video signal is divided into a plurality of packets, data for generating a common information from the input video signal is decoded, the common information thus generated is stored at a predetermined position of a packet, and each packet is sequentially recorded on a recording medium.

  • Patent number: 5543937
Abstract: An apparatus serving as a digital videocassette recorder (VCR) for recording analog video and audio signals as digital signals. The apparatus serves also as a digital data storage drive. The digital VCR and the storage drive share common circuitry and a common magnetic recording medium. This reduces the cost and enhances the efficiency at which tracks are used. The apparatus has a large storage capacity. The apparatus divides input digital data into two parts and performs error correction encoding for each of these two data parts to form sync blocks. These sync blocks are recorded in an audio signal recording area and a video signal recording area, respectively, on the recording medium. Error correction codes used during reading of digital data are the same as those used during recording of video and audio signals. The same track structure and the same sync block structure are used for these two modes of operation.

  • Patent number: 5475446
Abstract: A reference picture signal is stored defining a plurality of image pixels of a reference picture. The input picture signal is divided into a plurality of input block signals each defining a plurality of image pixels of a corresponding input block. Decimation information is set in advance for specifying a portion to be decimated among the plurality of image pixels of each input block. Selected image pixels of each of input blocks are addressed in accordance with the block decimation information to obtain a corresponding decimated input block having an addressed subset of image pixels relative to the plurality of image pixels of each input block. An image motion associated with each input block is estimated by comparing the addressed subset of image pixels of each corresponding decimated input block with the image pixels of the reference image.

  • Patent number: 5394190
Abstract: A field to be encoded is divided into blocks. Then, first, second, and third motion vectors relative to data of a block of the field to be encoded are calculated from data of an m-th preceding field (m: even), data of an n-th preceding field (n: odd), and data of an interpolated image produced from the n-th preceding field. First, second, and third prediction signals are produced from the first motion vector and the m-th preceding field data, the second motion vector and the n-th preceding field data, and the third motion vector and the interpolated image data, respectively. In succession, a first difference signal between the first prediction signal and the block data to be encoded, a second difference signal between the second prediction signal and the block data to be encoded, and a third difference signal between the third prediction signal and the block data to be encoded are calculated and compared each other.
