Abstract: A method is described for data transmission by user equipments adapted to transmit data using resource blocks allocated by a radio network. The radio network is adapted to allocate resource blocks to a dedicated one of the user equipments or to a plurality of the user equipments. The method comprises the step of allocating at least one of the resource blocks that is not allocated to any dedicated user equipment to a first plurality of the user equipments. The allocation is signaled to the user equipments. A first user equipment of said first plurality obtains data for transmission. At least a first part of the data is transmitted by the first user equipment using said at least one resource block. • Patent number: 8989087
Abstract: A method for managing radio access comprises sending of a radio access technology (RAT) resource aggregation request from a first radio access network (RAN) to a second RAN concerning communication with a user equipment connected to a source RAN, and returning a response to the first RAN. The source RAN is the first or second RAN. The first and second RANs use different radio access technologies. Radio resources of a base station in a target RAN, the RAN to which the user equipment is not connected, are reserved. A report of the reserved radio resources is sent to the source RAN. A RAT resource aggregation command is transmitted to the user equipment. The RAT resource aggregation command comprises that a RAT resource aggregation shall be used and the reserved radio resources. The base stations have at least partly overlapping coverage areas.

  • Publication number: 20140369314
Abstract: In a wireless communication network where base stations receive protocol data units (PDUs) from mobile stations for decompression and deciphering for ordered, sequential transfer as service data units (SDUs) to an associated core network, the teachings presented herein provide a method of supporting seamless handover of a mobile station from a source base station to a target base station. By way of example, the teachings herein apply to a network based on the E-UTRA specifications, as promulgated by the 3GPP. However, that example is non-limiting, as the teachings herein apply to any network that employs in-sequence data delivery and duplicate data detection at handover. Broadly, the source base station forwards out-of-sequence SDUs and corresponding sequence number information to the target base station in support of seamless handover, and the target base station uses that information to request retransmissions as needed for packet reordering.

  • Patent number: 8812006
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and arrangements in a wireless communication system supporting carrier aggregation and comprising a radio base station configured to broadcast system information in at least two cells. The method for the user equipment comprises receiving configuration information for an aggregation of the at least two cells from the radio base station, identifying a first of the at least two cells based on a configuration rule stating that the first of the at least two cells has a status that is different from the status of the remaining cells, and reading the broadcasted system information only in the identified cell. The method may also comprise obeying one or more parameters obtained from the read system information.

  • Patent number: 8804616
Abstract: A signaling mechanism informs a Radio Network Controller of the radio access technology associated with data packets forwarded to the Radio Network Controller from base stations supporting multiple radio access technologies. With this information, the Radio Network Controller can associate received data with the corresponding radio access technologies, and thus manage differing physical layer procedures, such as outer-loop power control, for the radio access technologies. In an example method, first and second data units transmitted by a mobile station over first and second radio access technologies, respectively, are forwarded from one or more base stations to a network control node for further processing. A control message associated with at least some of the data units is also sent to the network control node, the control message indicating the radio access technology over which the associated data units were transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20140044079
Abstract: A procedure for synchronization of re-configuration of RRC procedures between the radio base station and the UE is achieved by associating a new configuration to be used by a UE with an additional UE identity. The UE is normally identified by a first UE identity, but is informed in a re-configuration message that the UE also has the additional UE identity. The UE is identified by the additional UE identity when the new configuration is to be activated. Hence, when the radio base station detects that the UE responds to requests, which included the additional UE identity, the radio base station can conclude that the UE has activated the new configuration.

  • Patent number: 8467421
Abstract: UTRAN MAC-d multiplexing of data from multiple logical channels to a single MAC-d flow is supported while reducing overhead and achieving octet alignment in MAC-d PDU length. In one embodiment, the C/T field of a multiplexed MAC-d PDU is eliminated, and the logical channels multiplexed into the MAC-d flow are mapped to a MAC-hs PQ in at least the NodeB (and preferably in the UE as well). In other embodiments, the C/T field is retained, and an octet-aligned length indicator is transmitted from the RNC to the UE. In one embodiment, the length indicator is octet-aligned by padding the MAC-d PDUs. In another embodiment, transmitters and receivers in the path from RNC to UE are configured with an offset to add to the length indicator to achieve octet alignment. The padding or offset is (8?n) bits, where n=the number of bits in C/T field.

  • Publication number: 20120307783
Abstract: A method in a wireless communication system for reporting buffer information includes selecting, a format for a buffer report based on a number of radio bearer groups, k, for which data is available for transmission by a user equipment. The buffer report indicates a respective buffer fill level for one or more radio bearer groups associated with the user equipment. The method also include encoding a buffer fill level for one or more radio bearer groups in a buffer report in accordance with the selected format and transmitting the buffer report.

  • Publication number: 20120269074
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for processing error control messages, such as RLC ARQ control messages, are disclosed. An exemplary method comprises signaling a medium access controller (MAC) that link resources are needed for transmitting data, receiving an indication from the MAC that link resources for transmitting the data are scheduled, and generating an error control message after receiving said indication, based on a current error control status. The error control message is then forwarded to the MAC for transmission. Because the generation of an error control message is delayed until resources for its transmission are scheduled, the queuing of stale control messages is avoided.

  • Patent number: 8279806
Abstract: The invention relates to a technique for uplink data transmissions in, e.g., mobile networks. A method embodiment for performing the technique in a transmitter (122) comprises the steps of allocating, for a first transmission (T1?) as the transmission power for an uplink control channel (UCOCH), the smaller of an available transmission power and a desired transmission power for the uplink control channel; and allocating, for at least one subsequent transmission (T2?) triggered by a feedback indication (128), zero transmission power to the uplink control channel (UCOCH).

  • Patent number: 8243666
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and arrangement in a wireless communication system for efficient reporting of scheduling information processed in a unit of said system. The method comprises the steps of adaptively selecting a buffer status report format that is most efficient for the momentary buffer content for indicating the buffer fill levels of the scheduler, and encoding said buffer fill levels such as to minimize the number of bits needed to encode the information.
