  • Publication number: 20110292895
Abstract: A method is described for data transmission by user equipments adapted to transmit data using resource blocks allocated by a radio network. The radio network is adapted to allocate resource blocks to a dedicated one of the user equipments or to a plurality of the user equipments. The method comprises the step of allocating at least one of the resource blocks that is not allocated to any dedicated user equipment to a first plurality of the user equipments. The allocation is signaled to the user equipments. A first user equipment of said first plurality obtains data for transmission. At least a first part of the data is transmitted by the first user equipment using said at least one resource block. Devices embodying the invention and methods of operating the devices are also described. Contention based data transmission in uplink is enabled without previous scheduling request and scheduling grant.

  • Publication number: 20110105165
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and arrangements in a wireless communication system supporting carrier aggregation and comprising a radio base station configured to broadcast system information in at least two cells. The method for the user equipment comprises receiving configuration information for an aggregation of the at least two cells from the radio base station, identifying a first of the at least two cells based on a configuration rule stating that the first of the at least two cells has a status that is different from the status of the remaining cells, and reading the broadcasted system information only in the identified cell. The method may also comprise obeying one or more parameters obtained from the read system information.

  • Publication number: 20110105105
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods, a user equipment and a radio base station in a wireless communication system supporting carrier aggregation. The user equipment is configured to receive data from the radio base station in a first cell, and the radio base station is configured to broadcast system information comprising configuration parameters in the first and in a second cell. An example method for the user equipment comprises receiving configuration information for an aggregation of the first and the second cell, and information on how to apply the system information broadcasted in the second cell from the radio base station. The method further comprises reading the system information broadcasted in the second cell, and applying the read system information in accordance with the received instruction.

  • Patent number: 7689237
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and arrangements to enhance transmission quality in a Push-to-Talk system comprising a sending mobile unit MB1, and a receiving mobile unit MB2 used by a receiving subscriber B. The receiving unit MB2 comprises a Play-Out-Buffer POB and a Repeat Buffer RB, whereby a stream of sequences 15-19,25-29,35-39 is sent from the sending unit MB1 to the receiving unit MB2. The method comprises the following steps:—The incoming stream of sequences 15-19,25-29,35-39 is collected into the Repeat Buffer RB and into the Play-Out-Buffer POB. The Play-Out-Buffer has a storage size and a point for commencing play-out that provides low voice delay, and the Repeat Buffer has a storage size that provides high sound quality. —The incoming stream is played-out from the Play-Out-Buffer POB to the receiving subscriber B. —Replay is commenced of a defined part 36-39 of the sequences 15-19,25-29,35-39 collected in the Repeat Buffer RB.

  • Publication number: 20100008307
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and arrangement in a wireless communication system for efficient reporting of scheduling information processed in a unit of said system. The method comprises the steps of adaptively selecting a buffer status report format that is most efficient for the momentary buffer content for indicating the buffer fill levels of the scheduler, and encoding said buffer fill levels such as to minimize the number of bits needed to encode the information.

  • Patent number: 7626974
Abstract: A method of optimizing the timing offsets with which data frames are transmitted over the Iur/Iub interfaces of a UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network, UTRAN. The method comprises, for a given Iur/Iub interface or set of Iur/Iub interfaces over which identical user plane data is to be sent, defining a duration of a data frame receiving window for use by the receiving node(s), transmitting data frames from a sending node with an initial timing offset sufficient to ensure a likelihood that the frames will be received at the or each receiving node within the defined receiving window, reducing the timing offset at the sending node in a stepwise manner, and adjusting the timing offset at the sending node in response to the receipt of late Time of Arrival error reports at the sending node.

  • Publication number: 20090119564
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for processing error control messages, such as RLC ARQ control messages, are disclosed. An exemplary method comprises signaling a medium access controller (MAC) that link resources are needed for transmitting data, receiving an indication from the MAC that link resources for transmitting the data are scheduled, and generating an error control message after receiving said indication, based on a current error control status. The error control message is then forwarded to the MAC for transmission. Because the generation of an error control message is delayed until resources for its transmission are scheduled, the queuing of stale control messages is avoided.

  • Publication number: 20080089287
Abstract: In a radio or wireless access network, packets to be transmitted to a mobile radio are broadcast over a transport network to a set of associated radio access points, where each set of associated radio access points corresponds to a broadcast group. Each access point monitors packets broadcast to it broadcast group to determine if the access point should retrieve the packet. Rather than establishing packet tunnels to specific access points to transport packets to be transmitted to a mobile station through a transport network, those packets simply are broadcast over the transport network to the relevant broadcast group(s). Select diversity may be used where the mobile selects which access point transmits a particular packet to the mobile station. Alternatively, the network may decide which access point transmits a particular packet to the mobile station. This approach greatly facilitates cost-efficient and fast handovers of a mobile connection between access points in a wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20080080424
Abstract: A user equipment unit (30) and a base station node (28) which is configured for operation with a synchronous HARQ protocol and with capability of sending data on an E-DCH channel either (1) in a nominal mode in single transmission time intervals of a predetermined length, or (2) in an extended mode in a pseudo transmission time interval. The pseudo transmission time interval comprises a first transmission time interval in which the data is transmitted and a second transmission time interval in which the data is re-transmitted. The second transmission time interval is consecutive to the first transmission time interval, and the first transmission time interval and the second transmission time interval are each of the (same) predetermined length.

  • Publication number: 20080002617
Abstract: A packet service enhancement mode (60) and packet service enhancer (35) is provided for operating a packet channel (25) existing over an air interface (27) between a base station node and a user equipment unit of a telecommunications network. As one aspect of the technology, a packet service enhancement method comprises performing a monitoring of a radio link connection carried by the packet channel and, in accordance with the monitoring, both modifying an operational parameter for the packet channel and dropping non-consecutive packets from the packet channel.
