Publication number: 20120166848Abstract: A plurality of modules interact to form an adaptive network in which each module transmits and receives data signals indicative of the proximity of objects. A central computer accumulates the data produced or received and relayed by each module. One of the modules is operable as a leaf node having a sleep mode to conserve energy and an interactive mode. The central computer can send a message to the leaf node commanding it to stay awake in order to receive subsequent communications.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2012Publication date: June 28, 2012Inventors: Alan Broad, Rahul Kapur, Jaidev Prabhu, Martin Albert Turon, Ning Xu, Xin Yang, Matt Miller

Patent number: 8115593Abstract: A plurality of modules interact to form an adaptive network in which each module transmits and receives data signals indicative of proximity of objects. A central computer accumulates the data produced or received and relayed by each module for analyzing proximity responses to transmit through the adaptive network control signals to a selectively-addressed module to respond to computer analyses of the data accumulated from modules forming the adaptive network. Interactions of local processors in modules that sense an intrusion determine the location and path of movements of the intruding object and control cameras in the modules to retrieve video images of the intruding object. Multiple operational frequencies in adaptive networks permit expansions by additional networks that each operate at separate radio frequencies to avoid overlapping interaction. Additional modules may be introduced into operating networks without knowing the operating frequency at the time of introduction.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2006Date of Patent: February 14, 2012Assignee: Memsic Transducer Systems Co., Ltd.Inventors: Alan Broad, Rahul Kapur, Jaidev Prabhu, Martin Albert Turon, Ning Xu, Xin Yang, Matt Miller

Patent number: 7176808Abstract: A method and system updates a network of sensors remotely through the use of a communication link. The sensors to be updated as well as data files to perform the updating are selected at a base station. The selected sensors are notified of the upcoming update by the base station and may accept or reject the update. The sensors that approve the update then receive data files through the communication link. The sensors notify the base station of any missing data files, which are then retransmitted to all sensors that may be missing data files from the first transmission. After the sensors receive all data files, the update is initiated.Type: GrantFiled: November 11, 2003Date of Patent: February 13, 2007Assignee: Crossbow Technology, Inc.Inventors: Alan S. Broad, Matt Miller, Michael A. Horton

Publication number: 20060031407Abstract: Systems and methods for remote network access are provided. The described methods may be implemented in a computer-readable-medium and executed on a processing device. Software modules resident on one or more networks servers and one or more client computing devices cooperate to provide the client computing device(s) with remote network access.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 15, 2003Publication date: February 9, 2006Inventors: Steve Dispensa, Matt Miller, Wayne Schroeder, Jason Sloderbeck

Patent number: 6902109Abstract: Generally described, under on aspect of the invention, a single unique delivery notice is left at the particular location. However, just before it is left, this notice is electronically “linked” to the parcel(s) which were undeliverable. This can be done by a handheld portable data acquisition device which includes a conventional scanning means, allowing information to be scanned from the delivery notice as well as labels on the parcels, and stored on the handheld portable data acquisition device. If ten parcels were undeliverable, only one delivery notice is left behind but is electronically “linked” to all ten packages. The intended recipient can then contact the delivery service via the internet (or other suitable network) or by phone, by using information provided on the delivery notice. By providing the delivery service with unique information from the delivery notice, the intended recipient can get valuable information regarding the undelivered parcels.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2003Date of Patent: June 7, 2005Assignee: United Parcel Service of America, Inc.Inventors: Craig Barta, Matt Miller, Daniel Garcia, Scott Aubuchon

Publication number: 20050027084Abstract: The preparation of vinyl halide monomer, and further to polyvinyl halide, starting from C1 compounds, involving conversion of methane or methanol to methyl halide; condensation of methyl halide to ethylene and co-product hydrogen halide; oxidative halogenation of ethylene to vinyl halide monomer; separation of vinyl halide monomer from any methyl halide present in the vinyl halide monomer stream; optional recycling of the methyl halide recovered to the condensation step; and recovery and optional recycling of the co-product hydrogen halide. Optionally, the vinyl halide monomer may be polymerized to polyvinyl halide to facilitate separation of the monomer from methyl halide. Methyl halide may be obtained via oxidative halogenation of methane in the presence of a rare earth halide or rare earth oxyhalide catalyst. Optionally, the methyl halide may be converted to methanol.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 23, 2002Publication date: February 3, 2005Inventors: William Clarke, Terry Haymon, John Henley, Daniel Hickman, Mark Jones, Matt Miller, Thomas Morris, Daniel Reed, Lawrence Samson, Albert Schweizer, Steve Smith
