  • Publication number: 20170119522
Abstract: Intraocular lens inserters and methods of use are disclosed. An example intraocular lens inserter may include an interior assembly having a movable member disposed therein. The movable member is movable in response to a pressure of a compressed gas. In response to the pressure of the compressed gas, the moveable member pressurizes a substantially incompressible fluid. The pressurized substantially incompressible fluid is used to advance a plunger. The plunger advances an intraocular lens through a lumen for insertion into an eye.

  • Patent number: 9626206
Abstract: Described is a technology by which a virtual machine may be safely migrated to a computer system with a different platform. Compatibility of the virtual machine may be checked by comparing the virtual machine's capabilities against those of the new platform. To ensure compatibility, when created the virtual machine may have its capabilities limited by the lowest common capabilities of the different platforms available for migration. Computer systems may be grouped into migration pools based upon similar capabilities, and/or a virtual machine may be mapped to certain computer systems based upon capabilities needed by that virtual machine, such as corresponding to needed performance, fault tolerance and/or flexibility.

  • Publication number: 20170090013
Abstract: A radar system and method include a first transmitted radar signal having a first frequency and a second transmitted radar signal having a second frequency different from the first frequency. A receiver receives reflected radar signals generated by reflection of the transmitted radar signals and generates receive signals indicative of the reflected radar signals, a first receive signal being indicative of a first reflected radar signal generated by reflection of the first transmitted radar signal, and a second receive signal being indicative of a second reflected radar signal generated by reflection of the second transmitted radar signal. A processor receives the first and second receive signals and computes a difference between the first and second receive signals to generate a difference signal, the processor processing the difference signal to provide radar information.

  • Patent number: 9607627
Abstract: Sound enhancement techniques through dereverberation are described. In one or more implementations, a method is described of enhancing sound data through removal of reverberation from the sound data by one or more computing devices. The method includes obtaining a model that describes primary sound data that is to be utilized as a prior that assumes no prior knowledge about specifics of the sound data from which the reverberation is to be removed. A reverberation kernel is computed having parameters that, when applied to the model that describes the primary sound data, corresponds to the sound data from which the reverberation is to be removed. The reverberation is removed from the sound data using the reverberation kernel.

  • Publication number: 20170080517
Abstract: A method and friction welding system for friction welding. Metallic components are positioned such that welding surfaces of the metallic components contact each other. A metallic component in the metallic components has a relief feature adjacent to a welding surface for the metallic component. The welding surfaces are moved relative to each other while the welding surfaces are in contact such that solid-state joining of the metallic components at the welding surfaces occurs to form a structure. The relief feature causes a material from at least one of the metallic components to form with respect to the relief feature in a manner that enables performing an additional solid-state joining operation with the structure at a subsequent welding surface on the structure without removing flash.

Abstract: Methods and systems for replicating a virtual machine and its associated data containers are provided. The virtual machine is placed in an inactive state and a replication directory is generated for cloning each data container from an active directory to the replication directory. • Patent number: 9553681
Abstract: Methods and systems for source separation based on determining a number of bases for a nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) model are disclosed. A method includes receiving, at a computing device, a mixed signal including a combination of first signal data and second signal data. The method also includes generating, by the computing device, a time-frequency representation of the mixed signal. The method further includes determining, by applying a structured stochastic variational inference (SSVI) algorithm to the NMF model, a number of bases for a dictionary of signal-related components of the mixed signal. The method uses the number of bases and the time-frequency representation to construct the dictionary and an activation matrix of weights, the weights indicating how active each one of the signal-related components is at a given time. The method then uses the dictionary and the activation matrix to separate the first signal data from the second signal data.

  • Patent number: 9507622
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments provide various techniques for identifying a virtual application for backup in a cloud computing system. A cloud service layer of the cloud computing system is queried for a listing of virtual applications. In response to the querying, an attribute associated with the virtual application is received from the cloud service layer. The attribute associated with the virtual application is then transformed into an attribute associated with a hypervisor-managed virtual machine, and this transformation of the attribute exposes the hypervisor-managed virtual machine associated with the virtual application such that the hypervisor-managed virtual machine is identifiable for backup. As a result, the virtual application can be backed up based on the attribute of the hypervisor-managed virtual machine.

  • Patent number: 9507468
Abstract: An electromechanical polymer (EMP) sensor includes (a) a first set of EMP layers provided between a first electrode and a second electrode forming a capacitor, the first set of EMP layers having one or more EMP layers capable of being activated by application of a voltage across the first and second electrodes; and (b) a sensing circuit coupled to the first electrode and the second electrode for detecting a change in capacitance or a change in voltage across the first and second electrodes. The EMP sensor may further include means for disconnecting the second electrode from a ground reference after the pre-determined voltage is applied, such that the sensing circuit senses a change in capacitance. The sensing circuit may be capable of detecting a noise portion of a voltage across the first and second electrode.

  • Patent number: 9465697
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments provide various techniques for providing backup functionalities in a cloud computing system. In one exemplary method, a workflow that defines a set of actions associated with a backup functionality in a cloud computing system is accessed. A plug-in module that is configured to perform at least one of the set of actions associated with the backup functionality is identified from a number of plug-in modules. This identified plug-in module is then called to execute the action defined in the workflow.
