  • Publication number: 20180129612
Abstract: Techniques are provided to adjust the behavior of a cache based on a count of cache misses for items recently evicted. In an embodiment, a computer responds to evicting a particular item (PI) from a cache by storing a metadata entry for the PI into memory. In response to a cache miss for the PI, the computer detects whether or not the metadata entry for the PI resides in memory. When the metadata entry for the PI is detected in memory, the computer increments a victim hit counter (VHC) that may be used to calculate how much avoidable thrashing is the cache experiencing, which is how much thrashing would be reduced if the cache were expanded. Either immediately or arbitrarily later, the computer adjusts a policy of the cache based on the VHC's value. For example, the computer may adjust the capacity of the cache based on the VHC.

  • Patent number: 9958572
Abstract: A multi-layer composite synthetic test bed may be used to model fracture propagation and fracture networks. For example, a fracturing fluid may be introduced into a multi-layer composite synthetic test bed at a pressure and a flow rate sufficient to create a fracture network therein. Then, the fracture network may be analyzed to produce synthetic fracture data, which may be used in a fracture model.

  • Publication number: 20180045460
Abstract: A hydrocarbon vapor capture and processing system is disclosed to reduce both carbon emissions and conventional pollution, while producing financial returns by turning waste vapors into high quality NGLs. In one embodiment, the hydrocarbon vapor is sent to a compressor for compression. Compressed vapor is then cooled via an air cooler, before being condensed by a refrigerator to form a liquid. The resulting two-phase flow is then separated into a dry gas stream and a liquid stream using a cyclonic separator. The dry gas stream may be transmitted as a light gas to sales line. The resulting liquid stream is passed to a stripping column to produce NGLs. The system offers great benefits to the environment and public health, by providing a technology that drastically cuts carbon emissions and noxious pollution, while incentivizing drillers to implement such measures through its ability to produce revenue.

  • Publication number: 20170340147
Abstract: A wireless drink container can monitor a person's hydration and prompt him or her to drink more if appropriate. The drink containers as described herein can monitor liquid levels and communicate with external devices about the liquid levels and rate of consumption. One or more sensors in the drink container monitor the liquid level within the container. A processor coupled to the sensor(s) estimates how much liquid has been removed from the container from changes in the liquid level and transmits a signal representing the change in liquid level to a smartphone or other external device. It also triggers an audio or visual indicator, such as an LED, that prompts the user to drink more based on the user's estimated liquid consumption and on the user's liquid consumption goals, which may be based on the user's physiology, activity level, and location.

  • Publication number: 20170235488
Abstract: Window based mapping is used to reduce the usage of volatile memory for storing the mapping of logical to physical addresses for accesses to data in a flash drive. Two separate mapping tables for translation of logical addresses to physical addresses (L2P), e.g., an L2P front map and an L2P back map, are used where the L2P front map acts as a window to the L2P back map. The L2P front map has smaller granularity for data accesses than the L2P back map. The data accessed using the L2P front map can allow the flash drive to function with relatively same performance as a fully mapped drive with a single mapping table.

  • Patent number: 9719024
Abstract: An intelligent controls system for a field-deployable system for producing dry natural gas (NG) and natural gas liquids (NGLs) from a raw gas stream is disclosed. The control system is used to ensure correct specifications of both dry NG (above a desired minimum methane number) and NGLs (below a desired maximum vapor pressure) from any supplied raw natural gas source by controlling three system parameters: inlet gas flow rate, system operating pressure, and separator-reboiler temperature set point. The input parameters include: heat content of the input gas stream, volume of the input gas stream, desired methane number of the NG, and desired vapor pressure of the NGLs. The controls system allows any piece of remote field equipment for performing complex chemical processing to be monitored, controlled, and operated remotely. A large array of distributed field equipment situated around the world can all be controlled primarily through a single interface provided in a central control center.
