Publication number: 20130317982Abstract: Systems and methods for facilitating financial transactions over a network include a merchant device, a client device and a payment processing device. The merchant device is adapted to allow a merchant to provide items for purchase via the network. The client device is adapted to allow a user to access the merchant device via the network and view the items for purchase. The client device is adapted to provide a payment mechanism to the user. The user generates a purchase request for an item by selecting the one item, dragging the item to the payment mechanism, and dropping the item over the payment mechanism. The payment processing device is adapted to receive the purchase request from the client device via the network and authorize the user to purchase the item from the merchant based on information passed with the purchase request.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 29, 2013Publication date: November 28, 2013Inventors: Matthew Mengerink, Upendra Mardikar, David Gausebeck

Publication number: 20130227475Abstract: A method and system to display a pop-up window when a user leaves a website are disclosed. A user accesses a website with a web browser. When a web page from the website is loaded into the user's browser, a client-side variable is set to a particular value, such as the current time. When the web page from the website is unloaded from the browser, a hidden pop-up window is loaded. The hidden pop-up window is programmed to sleep and then check the value of the client-side variable. A change in the value of the client-side variable indicates a new web page from the same web server has been loaded into the web browser and the user has not left the website. However, if a web page from a different web server is loaded into the browser, then the value of the client-side variable remains unchanged. Consequently, when the hidden pop-up window awakes and checks the value of the client-side variable, the pop-up window can determine whether the user has left the original website.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 5, 2013Publication date: August 29, 2013Applicant: eBay Inc.Inventors: Matthew Mengerink, Justin Christopher Early, Jeremy A. Davis

Publication number: 20130198183Abstract: A method and system for retrieving and normalizing product information are described. The system retrieves product information from sources that are accessed over a network. Next, the system creates markup language based on the product information. The markup language includes a first attribute-value pair that includes a first attribute and a first value. Next, the system normalizes the markup language by translating the first attribute to a second attribute responsive to an identification of the first attribute in a list that includes a plurality of attributes that are associated with a first product and the second attribute. The second attribute is a canonical representation of the plurality of attributes respectively.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 11, 2013Publication date: August 1, 2013Applicant: Half.com, Inc.Inventors: Kerry Clendinning, Michael McCartney, Matthew Mengerink, Fred Garfield Robinette, IV, David J. Patent number: 7948898Abstract: This document discusses, among other things, an example system and methods for connecting a client and a resource. Example embodiments may include receiving a request from a client computer, for a connection to a generically named resource that is associated with multiple resources. In response to the request, example embodiments may further include detecting whether one of the multiple resources is overloaded and determining a number of static connections reserved for the client computer. A static or dynamic connection may be assigned to the resource or a further one of the multiple resources based on the generic resource name, the load on the resource and the number of static connections reserved for the client computer.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2008Date of Patent: May 24, 2011Assignee: eBay Inc.Inventor: Matthew Mengerink

Patent number: 7831520Abstract: A method and system to conduct financial transactions over a communication network is provided. Data associated with a mobile communication device user is received and stored, and a user mobile airtime account is allocated to the user. A purchase request is received from the user via a mobile communication device, the purchase request being for a purchase from a merchant for a purchase amount. The communication network provides the user access to the network to make the purchase request without debiting a financial account of the user or the user mobile airtime account for the access to the communication network. A payment service provider now automatically debits the financial account of the user with the purchase amount, automatically allocates a service fee which is associated with the purchase amount to the mobile service provider and credits an account of the mobile service provider with the service fee.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2005Date of Patent: November 9, 2010Assignee: eBay Inc.Inventor: Matthew Mengerink

Publication number: 20090171900Abstract: A printer driver may be used to pass transaction information to a remote location for storage. Such transaction information may pertain, for example, to online transactions performed by a user in relation to various online merchants. Such transactions, for example, may also be facilitated by a payment service provider. In one example, a method of processing transaction information includes receiving transaction information at a client device. The transaction information is associated with a user-merchant transaction. The method also includes receiving a user-initiated selection of a printer driver. The method further includes, in response to the selection, passing the transaction information to a remote location to store the transaction information in a transaction record maintained at the remote location. The passing is performed by software implemented in the printer driver. Related methods, devices, and systems are also disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 28, 2007Publication date: July 2, 2009Inventors: Brian Phillips, Hugo Olliphant, George Lee, Matthew Mengerink
