  • Publication number: 20100132072
Abstract: The present invention provides methods to increase crop yield utilizing transgenic complementary paired genes controlling plant growth and yield. The specific genes increase female reproductive organs and are paired with genes responsible for modifying the growth of non-yield specific plant tissues. Plants, plant progeny, seeds and tissues created by these methods are also described. Polynucleotides encoding the paired sequences are provided for expression in a plant of interest. Expression cassettes, plants, plant cells, plant parts and seeds comprising the sequences of the invention are further provided. In specific embodiments, the polynucleotide is operably linked to a constitutive promoter.

  • Patent number: 7550575
Abstract: The present invention provides polynucleotides and related polypeptides (SEQ ID NO: 1 and 2) of the ZmARGOS (Auxin-Regulated Gene involved in Organ Size) gene family. The invention provides genomic sequence for the ZmARGOS genes. ZmARGOS is responsible for controlling plant growth, organ size and yield in crop plants. Transgenic plants expressing ZmARGOS show a positive impact on biomass accumulation and rate of maize plant growth, as well as an increase in organ size. These maize genes will find utility for enhancing agronomic traits in maize (and other crops).

  • Publication number: 20090103606
Abstract: Progressive distributed video coding is described. In one implementation, video data maybe encoded by arranging the data into bit-planes. The arrangement of bit-planes is adapted by shifting the first non-zero bit-plane left by one place in the binary digits and moving the sign bit immediately in the place vacated by the shifted non-zero bit-plane. The adapted bit-planes are then encoded using an asymmetric Slepian-Wolf encoder.

  • Publication number: 20080291065
Abstract: A Wyner-Ziv coding scheme jointly utilizes multiple side information at the decoder is described. A new probability model is introduced based on an extended turbo decoding trellis, so that the transitional probability is calculated from the probabilities conditioned on multiple side information. The proposed scheme handles multiple side information in a multi-dimensional manner to potentially achieve coding performance better than either selecting one side information or generating a single side information by averaging several side information. When the decoder receives multiple streams of parity bits, the conditional probabilities on the parity bits from the multiple streams all contribute in turbo decoding. The errors existing in some of the streams can be automatically eliminated during the decoding process.

  • Patent number: 7388521
Abstract: Request bits estimation for a Wyner-Ziv codec is described. In one aspect, and prior to communicating Wyner-Ziv parity bits to a Wyner-Ziv decoder, an estimated total number of parity bits to send to the Wyner-Ziv decoder are determined. This estimated number of parity bits allows the Wyner-Ziv decoder to reconstruct a frame of different coded content using the Wyner-Ziv parity bits such that the reconstructed frame will meet particular quality criteria. This estimated number of parity bits is determined independent of a request-bits feedback loop between the Wyner-Ziv coder and the Wyner-Ziv decoder. The estimated number of parity bits is communicated to the Wyner-Ziv decoder for reconstruction and presentation of the frame to a user.

  • Patent number: 7214857
Abstract: The present invention provides polynucleotides and related polypeptides of the protein ZMNAM isolated from maize endosperm. The invention provides genomic sequence for the ZMNAM gene. ZMNAM is a novel gene and is regulated by gene-specific imprinting. ZMNAM expression is endosperm-specific and expressed throughout the endosperm development, peaking at 25 DAP. Genomic imprinting has been implicated to play a role in endosperm development. Genes regulated by allele-specific imprinting are suspected to be non-essential to seed development. Gene-specific imprinting however, regulates developmentally important genes. The ZMNAM gene, a putative transcriptional factor, may play an important role in endosperm development, which may further affect kernel size, plant vigor during germination and at the early seedling stage.
