    Abstract: A marking apparatus is disclosed in which a propellant stream is passed through a channel and directed toward a substrate. At sufficient velocity, and with appropriate marking material, the marking material may be kinetically fused to the substrate. A multiplicity of channels for directing the propellant and marking material allow for high throughput, high resolution marking.     Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for reducing drop placement error of ink drops emitted by printheads, e.g. acoustic ink printing (AIP) printheads, in printers. Ink types include aqueous and phase change (hot melt), with finite electrical conductivity to allow inductive charging at drop ejection. More particularly, two schemes are contemplated to facilitate reduction of drop placement error, preferably to zero, for printing on planar or non-planar medium. In both schemes, segmented counter electrodes are biased at iteratively predetermined voltages and located across a print gap from drop ejectors integrated in the printheads. For printing on stationary medium such as paper on a belt or platen, absolute drop placement error for each ejector row is maintained to be zero to obtain the required bias electrode voltages.

    Abstract: A droplet-on-demand ink jet printer uses electrostatic tacking of a recording medium, such as paper, to achieve simultaneously precise holding of an aligned recording medium on a dielectric surface of a transport belt, thereby providing precise motion quality of the recording medium relative to the printer's printhead, and improved ink droplet placement on the recording medium. The transport belt is electrostatically charged with a charge of one polarity, so that an electrostatic pressure is generated which precisely holds the recording medium in an aligned position on the transport belt, after it is fed thereon, and concurrently induces a charge of opposite polarity on the ink droplets ejected by the printhead, thereby accelerating the droplets toward the recording medium.

An electrical charge associated with any previously developed images is substantially neutralized prior to development of any subsequent images thereon.
