Publication number: 20140379826Abstract: A system and method are described for allowing users to forward a media content experience, such as an Internet site, to another computing device. The system may allow the user to select individual portions and elements of the site for forwarding, to customize the level and type of experience being forwarded. The selection of portions and elements may be made based on the capabilities of the other computing device, and the forwarding may be simultaneously made to multiple other devices, each with potentially different combinations of the portions and elements of the site. In some embodiments, a text message link service may be offered by a content ingestion computing device, whereby a user may simply text an address of a site to be forwarded, and in response the user may receive a text message containing a link to the content ingestion computing device with a parameter identifying the site to be forwarded.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 24, 2014Publication date: December 25, 2014Inventors: Adam Hertz, Michael A. Chen, Sree Kotay

Patent number: 8887304Abstract: A system and method for processing entitlement rights are disclosed. The method, in one aspect, provides for storing content at a first time, receiving a request for playback of the content at a second time, and processing a user right associated with the content to authenticate the user right in response to the request for playback, wherein the user right is authenticated based upon a state of the user right at the first time.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2012Date of Patent: November 11, 2014Assignee: Comcast Cable Communications, LLCInventor: Michael A. Publication number: 20140215591Abstract: A method of providing access to content based upon one or more adequately-credentialed keys being proximate to a certain location. The method includes a first step of acquiring credential information from at least one key tagged with credential information using a credential acquisition device (CAD) at the certain location. The method also includes a second step of confirming that the credential information meets requirements for receiving the content. Further, the method includes a step of providing access to the content after performing the first and second steps.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 3, 2014Publication date: July 31, 2014Applicant: COMCAST CABLE COMMUNICATIONS, LLCInventor: Michael A. Publication number: 20140130071Abstract: A television program ratings method and system includes transferring information associated with households from a cable provider to a ratings provider such that the ratings provider has access to information associated with sampled households and lacks access to information associated with non-sampled households. To this end, identity information and usage information associated with the households are respectively anonymized and encrypted. Knowledge of the identities of the sampled households enables the anonymized identity information and the encrypted usage information for the sampled households to be respectively de-anonymized and decrypted. The ratings provider knows which households are sampled households. As such, the ratings provider de-anonymizes and decrypts the information associated with the sampled households and then uses the de-anonymized and decrypted information to determine television program ratings.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 16, 2013Publication date: May 8, 2014Applicant: Comcast Cable Communications, LLCInventor: Michael A. Publication number: 20130300644Abstract: System and methods for controlling a user experience are described. In an aspect, an interface can comprise an interface device for rendering content to a user, a sensor having a gesture zone associated therewith configured to detect a dexterous gesture of a user within the gesture zone and generate a sensor signal representing the dexterous gesture. A processor may be provided in communication with the sensor and the interface device, wherein the processor receives the sensor signal, analyzes the sensor signal to determine a control action associated with the detected dexterous gesture of the user, and configures the user interface based upon the determined control action of the user.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 11, 2012Publication date: November 14, 2013Applicant: COMCAST CABLE COMMUNICATIONS, LLCInventor: Michael A. Publication number: 20130227293Abstract: The disclosure relates to processing content with watermarks to generate watermarked versions. In some aspects, each version may be different. Groups of fragments may be combined to generate a unique stream by pulling fragments from two or more of the groups of fragments. Further, fragmenting may be performed before watermarking, and fragments may be pulled and watermarked upon request.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 24, 2012Publication date: August 29, 2013Applicant: COMCAST CABLE COMMUNICATIONS, LLCInventors: John Leddy, James W. Patent number: 7680061Abstract: A system and method for identifying which signals provided by a head-end are accessible to CPE of a subscriber in an HFC network. The method includes obtaining a partial list of signals accessible to the CPE, and then applying heuristic rules on the partial list to generate a complete accessible signal list. Obtaining the partial list includes discovering signal information regarding a subset of the signals which are accessible to the CPE; using the discovered signal information to obtain a signal identification of a signal accessible to the CPE; and generating the partial list based on the obtained signal identification. Applying a heuristic rule includes using a bit mask within the obtained signal identification or a naming convention of the obtained signal identification to identify other associated signals. The partial list is then generated based on the obtained signal identification and the signal identifications of the other associated signals.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2005Date of Patent: March 16, 2010Assignee: Comcast Cable Holdings, LLCInventors: Walter F.
