Patent number: 7395534Abstract: Described is a mechanism for enabling an application operating as a web application to transition to a client-side application without impacting a user's interaction with the application. The progressive installation transitions through three states: a start-up state, a demand state, and an install state. During the start-up state, a subset of components associated with the application is downloaded and stored in a local data store. The subset is sufficient to allow execution of the application in a manner similar to a web application. During the demand state, additional resources associated with the application are downloaded. Transitioning from the demand state to the installed state occurs without impacting a user's interaction with the application. The transition may occur autonomously based on the number of additional resources stored in the local data store or upon an external trigger.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2003Date of Patent: July 1, 2008Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Mark A. Publication number: 20070225569Abstract: A surgical wound retractor is adapted to dilate a wound stretchable to a desired diameter, the retractor includes a first ring having a diameter greater than that desired for the wound and being adapted for disposition interiorly of the wound. A second ring has a diameter greater than that desired for the wound and is adapted for disposition exteriorly of the wound. A plurality of retraction elements are disposed in a generally cylindrical relationship to each other, between the first ring and the second ring. These elements extend through the wound to exert a radial retraction force on the wound which is dependent on the distance separating the first ring and the second ring Retraction elements, both distensible and non-distensible are contemplated with appropriate attachment means at the rings to provide for variations in the retraction force. With a suitable retraction sleeve, a third ring can be provided to form a circumferential retainer to vary the retraction force.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 30, 2007Publication date: September 27, 2007Applicant: APPLIED MEDICAL RESOURCES CORPORATIONInventors: Richard Ewers, John Brustad, Edward Pingleton, Nabil Hilal, Payam Adlparvar, Scott Taylor, Gary Dulak, Michael Dunn, Norman Morales, Charles Hart, Robert Bowes

Publication number: 20070049267Abstract: Systems, methods, and software are described for benchmarking the location determination capabilities of a wireless communications network. A mobile communications device is configured to receive data identifying a reference location for the device. A communications network, communicatively coupled with the mobile communications device, calculates a computed location for the device using an alternative location determination technique. The reference location and computed location may be determined for any number of additional devices, as well. The accuracy and reliability of a system may then be assessed by comparing one or more computed locations with associated reference locations. The latency attributable to the calculation of one or more computed locations may also be determined.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 15, 2006Publication date: March 1, 2007Applicant: inCode Telecom Group, Inc.Inventors: Sekhar Kota, Todd Crick, Michael Dunn

Patent number: 7134849Abstract: A mechanical pump having a unitary construction such that the fluid being pumped is prevented from leaking without requiring the use of discrete seal elements. The absence of discrete seal elements and integral coupling of various components of the pump substantially reduces the likelihood of failure of potential leak points. This allows the pump to operate continuously for a longer period and with greater reliability than previously utilized pumps. The pump can be utilized in a greater number of applications without requiring special design consideration for the fluid being pumped. The absence of discrete seal elements also reduces the cost and complexity of manufacturing the pump.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2003Date of Patent: November 14, 2006Assignee: Trebor International, Inc.Inventors: Ricky B. Patent number: 7073170Abstract: A method, system and infrastructure that allow an application to run with specified versions of assemblies bound thereto, while allowing the application author, assembly publisher and/or an administrator to change the originally-specified version as desired. Each assembly may exist and run side-by-side on the system with other versions of the same assembly being used by other applications. An application manifest specifies any desired assembly versions, which may be redirected to another version (overridden) by an application configuration. A publisher configuration provided by an assembly publisher can similarly override the specified version. Lastly, an administrator configuration is capable of overriding other configuration versioning information. A table built from the manifest and any configuration redirection may be accessed during execution to quickly locate the appropriate version.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2005Date of Patent: July 4, 2006Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Michael J. Patent number: 7006407Abstract: For digital underwater transmission an information sequence (17) of digital bits is partitioned into a succession of symbols each comprising n bits where n is equal to or greater than one (2n potential symbols), each symbol (19) is replaced (20) a corresponding base code sequence of length m bits and the result (21) is passed to an acoustic transducer after bi-phase modulation (22) on a carrier. The code has good correlation properties, e.g. a pseudo-random maixmal length sequence, a Gold code or a Kasami code, and the value of m/n is at least (32). Preferably the base sequence is cyclically extended at one or both ends prior to modulation, and Solomon Reed redundancy coding (18) is initially applied to the information sequence. The output (23) of modulator (22) may be prefaced (26) by a pair of chirp waveforms (24). Provision is made for Doppler and multi-path correction.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2002Date of Patent: February 28, 2006Assignee: Qinetiq LimitedInventors: Jonathan James Davies, Shaun Michael Dunn, Stephen Arthur Pointer, Samuel William Downer

Patent number: 6980487Abstract: In a digital acoustic transmission device in which a digital sequence (31) is electrically modulated (22) on a carrier cos ?t, the modulated carrier (23) is prefaced with at least two pulse signals (24) of known timing relative to each other and to the modulated digital sequence to provide an output signal (13) for acoustic transmission. The pulse signals indicate to receiver the start of a transmission, and contain Doppler information for resampling the modulated signal prior to demodulation. Where the information sequence is in encoded blocks of equal length, the relationship between successive blocks can be used to update the Doppler information for use with the following block. Channel information can also be derived from the pulse signals and/or blocks for raking the next part of the incoming signal. Preferably the pulse signals have good correlation characteristics. In the embodiments the pulse signals are an immediately successive identical pair of linearly rising chirps.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2002Date of Patent: December 27, 2005Assignee: Qinetiq LimitedInventors: Jonathan James Davies, Shaun Michael Dunn, Stephen Arthur Pointer, Samuel William Downer
