Publication number: 20250121678Abstract: A utility vehicle includes an exhaust assembly fluidly coupled to an engine. Depending on various parameters, such as the size and/or performance of the vehicle, the exhaust assembly is required to meet certain emissions regulations. Such emissions regulations may be met by increasing the temperature within the exhaust assembly, however, at particularly high temperatures, a catalyst of the exhaust assembly may be damaged. Therefore, the exhaust assembly includes various options for cooling portions thereof to remove heat from the assembly.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 26, 2024Publication date: April 17, 2025Applicant: Polaris Industries Inc.Inventors: Michael A. Purdy, Ryan D. Carlson, Ralph W. Lauzze, III, Ryan M. Lacanne, Jake A. Stafford, Stephen Martin

Patent number: 10018136Abstract: A method for controlling a marine engine for propelling a marine vessel includes receiving user input as a user input device to control acceleration of a marine vessel, detecting a rapid acceleration command based on the user input, and determining an advanced spark timing based on at least one of engine speed and engine load, wherein the advanced spark timing adjusts a base spark time by a spark advance offset. A fuel increase is then determined based on the spark advance offset, and then an increased fuel injection amount is determined by increasing a base fuel injection amount by the fuel increase. Spark and fuel delivery are then controlled for one or more cylinders of the marine engine based on the advanced spark timing and the increased fuel injection amount.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2017Date of Patent: July 10, 2018Assignee: Brunswick CorporationInventors: Steven M. Anschuetz, Michael A. Purdy, Robert Raymond Osthelder, David J. Hilbert

Publication number: 20160363061Abstract: Systems and methods are for controlling internal combustion engines having a plurality of piston-cylinders that cause rotation of a crankshaft. A crankshaft sensor is configured to sense rotational speed of the crankshaft. A controller is configured to calculate an acceleration for each piston-cylinder based upon the rotational speed of the crankshaft and then balance the accelerations of the respective piston-cylinders by modifying a combustion input to one or more of the piston-cylinders in order to reduce engine vibration.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 17, 2014Publication date: December 15, 2016Applicant: BRUNSWICK CORPORATIONInventors: Andrew S. Waisanen, Michael A. Purdy, Jeffrey J. Broman

Publication number: 20090130929Abstract: A water cooled fuel reservoir is provided for a carbureted engine. Water is drawn by a pump from a body of water and caused to flow to a water jacket surrounding a fuel reservoir of the carburetor. The fuel reservoir, or float bowl, stores a quantity of liquid fuel which is cooled by thermal contact with the water in a water jacket of the water reservoir.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 24, 2007Publication date: May 21, 2009Inventors: Michael A. Purdy, Eric S. Mueller
-
Patent number: 7066130Abstract: A recoil starter has a guide surface with limited polar symmetry about the axis of the pull-rope limiting rotational orientation of the pull-handle in the at-rest position to less than three angular positions.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2004Date of Patent: June 27, 2006Assignees: Tohatsu Corporation, Brunswick CorporationInventors: Michael A. Purdy, Mark T. Lokken, Koichiro Takahashi
-
Patent number: 7056169Abstract: A connection device for a marine propulsion system is provided in which a selective locking mechanism automatically connects or disconnects two components of the marine propulsion system together in response to rotation of a tube and a rod. This relative rotation of the tube and rod is caused automatically when one of the components of the marine propulsion system is rotated relative to the other component.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2004Date of Patent: June 6, 2006Assignee: Brunswick CorporationInventors: Mark T. Lokken, Michael A. Purdy, Mark R. Hanson, Ronald L. Bates

Publication number: 20030143241Abstract: Antigen and antibody vaccine composition effective in preventing hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection are disclosed. The antigen composition includes a peptide corresponding to a carboxyl terminal end region of the capsid protein encoded by the second open reading frame 2 of the HEV genome. The composition is effective in preventing HEV infection after vaccination. The antibody composition contains an antibody effective to block HEV infection of human primary hepatocytes in culture.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 6, 2002Publication date: July 31, 2003Applicant: GeneLabs Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Gregory R. Reyes, Daniel W. Bradley, Jr-Shin Twu, Michael A. Purdy, Albert W. Tam, Krzysztof Z. Krawczynski, Patrice O. Yarbough
