  • Publication number: 20120020244
Abstract: In a method for exchanging routing messages in a wireless meshed communication network with network nodes and a root node, a routing tree is set up with data transmission paths. The root node sends routing requests at regular time intervals to set up the paths, wherein a request contains a specification for a first bidirectional path mode or a second unidirectional path mode. At a respective node, a first field is used to indicate a first or a second node state. If, upon receipt of a request, the first field is in the first state, a routing response is always sent and otherwise not. Next, the node checks the mode specified in the request, ensuring that the respective mode is set. In case of a node to root data transmission, a node also ensures that the first field of the respective network node is in the first state.

  • Publication number: 20110211461
Abstract: A method for data transmission in a local are network, wherein data is transmitted on the Media Access Control (MAC) layer within successive time frames between a plurality of first nodes comprising client nodes to a second node comprising a coordinator node for the plurality of first nodes. A synchronizing slot for sending a synchronizing message from the second node to the first nodes includes acknowledgements for time slots used for data transmissions in previous time frames from the first nodes to the second node. The acknowledgements indicate whether a data transmission in the previous time frame was successful. Based on these acknowledgements, retransmission time slots included in the current time frame are used for retransmitting data that have not been transmitted successfully in a time slot of the previous time frame.

  • Publication number: 20110194472
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for which, for determining a routing-metric for a mesh-network, in particular according to standard IEEE 802.11s, routing messages sent in wireless mesh networks or mobile ad-hoc-networks, on various paths of source nodes, via the mesh nodes of the mesh networks to the target nodes, are evaluated in order to determine the best path for transferring data packets from source nodes to target nodes. Said nodes are battery-operated and mesh nodes are only used in the energy-saving mode as intermediate nodes of a path when this can not be prevented due to necessary connectivity in the mesh network or due to predetermined guidelines. Also, in each routing message sent from source nodes to target nodes via various paths, a plurality of bits, preferably two bits, are used for the number of mesh nodes operating in the path in the energy-saving mode or are battery-operated when the remaining bits of the routing-message are used for the path metric.

  • Publication number: 20110194415
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for operating a mesh-type network, particularly as defined in an IEEE 802.11s standard, formed by a plurality of network nodes, said network operating at least a first network node that functions as access point for stations which are dissociated from the network and a second network node that functions as connector point for stations that are dissociated from the network. When switching a dissociated station from a radio service area of the first network node to the radio service area of the second network node in said mesh network, an updating of allocation information of nodes based on a routing failure message which is defined according to a routing protocole valid for the mesh network is carried out.

  • Publication number: 20110110303
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for operating a mesh network, especially according to IEEE standard 802.11s, wherein the mesh network comprises a plurality of network nodes, which have outer edge nodes and inner network nodes. A first edge node forms a connection point for external first stations disjunctive to the network, and a second edge node forms a connection point for external second stations disjunctive to the network, wherein data packets are to be exchanged between the first and second stations. During a switch of an external station from one edge node to another edge node, especially from a coverage area of the first edge node to a coverage area of the second network node, the respective association information of the network nodes is updated by means of an association message while inserting a validity duration for the association of the external stations connected to the edge nodes. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the method for operating a mesh network.

  • Patent number: 7801097
Abstract: When setting up a wireless network formed of several communication terminals, it is usual for the communication terminals to be devoid of information on local topology. In large wireless mobile environment networks it is advisable to create an independent large-network setup, wherein individual communication terminals which are not yet connected and/or partial networks are integrated. The method enables automatic dynamic, large-network organization, taking into account communication terminals which are not yet connected. This is achieved by exchanging messages between the communication devices to determine local topology information independently and by integrating the thus enhanced isolated individual communication terminals and partial networks.

  • Publication number: 20100214960
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for establishing a bidirectional data transmission path in a wireless meshed packet-switched communication network, wherein a logical topology in the form of at least one routing tree can be proactively established, wherein a root network node (R) of the routing tree sends first unidirectional data transmission paths regarding routing request messages (RANs) specifying the root network node (R) to the network nodes (M1-M7) of the communication network in periodic time intervals. A first flag is provided in the network nodes (M1-M7) of the muting tree that can be put into two different states. Upon receipt of a muting request message (RAN), a network node (M5) only sends a second unidirectional data transfer path regarding the routing response message (RWN) specifying the network node to the root-network node (R) if the first flag is switched into a first selectable state (ON).

  • Publication number: 20100124190
Abstract: A method is described for operating a wireless interconnected data network with a plurality of network nodes (MP1, MP2, MP 3, MP 4, MP S, MP D, NF MP) between which communications links (KV) exist, at least in part. At least some of the network nodes (MP1, MP2, MP 3, MP 4, MP S, MP D) forward received data packets to at least one of the network nodes (MP1, MP2, MP 3, MP 4, MP S, MP D, NF MP). At least one of the network nodes (NF MP) is designed as a prespecified network node. The prespecified network node (NF MP) suppresses the forwarding of data packets and the forwarding and/or the answering of data packets to the network nodes (MP1, MP2, MP 3, MP 4, MP S, MP D). Said data packets are transmitted in connection with the setting up of a data path in the data network and are not addressed to the prespecified network node (NF MP).

  • Publication number: 20090265550
Abstract: In a multi-hop network, packets are classified into header and user data for coded distribution. The header information, especially the multi-hop information, is separated in a coded manner from the user data, such that each network node need only decode the header in order to forward the packet. The header and the user data are guided, independently from each other, to the hardware of the respective device for separate coding, as if they were complete packets. A hardware accelerated coding of header and user data is possible using different keys. The header also contains integrity protection.
