  • Publication number: 20010052825
Abstract: A magnetron has an output comprising a coaxial line 15 which transmits energy from a wanted oscillator mode as a first coaxial waveguide mode and energy from an unwanted oscillator mode as a second cylindrical waveguide mode. Energy in the cylindrical waveguide mode is intercepted by slots 17, 18 in the coaxial line 15 and absorbed by material 19. This enables the modes to be separated. Preferably, the output is taken from the axis of the magnetron and the wanted oscillator mode in the &pgr;-1 mode.

  • Publication number: 20010017010
Abstract: In an arcuate roof section including a series of rafters which each define an exposed end of the prescribed height, a device positionable along the exposed ends of the series of rafters to define an arcuate facia. The device comprises at least one facia member having an arcuate inner surface, an arcuate outer surface, a top edge and a bottom edge. The inner surface of the facia member is configured to abut the exposed ends of the rafters such that the outer surface defines the arcuate facia. Additionally, the width between the top edge and the bottom edge of the facia member exceeds the height of the exposed ends. The facia member may be formed from a plurality of laminated wood members or formed from bonded particulate matter. Additionally, the facia member may be formed from a plastic material.

  • Patent number: 6238589
Abstract: Monitoring techniques have been developed for direct/indirect determination of metal etching bath components and for managing their replenishment. The disclosed methods have been successfully employed to make TiW etching a robust process that provides minimized and controlled undercutting of ball limited metallurgy and mechanical reliable C4s. A metal etching solution is monitored and replenished by measuring the sulfate concentration of a hydrogen peroxide, soluble salt, and soluble EDTA salt etchant. Turbidimetric titration conditions are used to measure and compare opaqueness of liquids by viewing light through them and determining how much light is cut off. Additional sulfate is added to maintain the sulfate concentration. Water and/or fresh etchant is added to compensate for evaporation or drag.

  • Patent number: 6177032
Abstract: A laminated light-polarizing composite lens is efficiently produced by bonding a pre-formed polarized sheet to the front convex surface of a molded polycarbonate lens in an autoclave. Excellent optical properties are obtained by the replication from a polished glass surface to the front surface of the lens. The outer surface layer of the finished lens is isotropic and thus does not produce unwanted birefringence effects. The method is especially well suited for the production of optically corrected decentered polycarbonate lenses. The process is simple and easily changed to produce lenses with different base curves and colors.

  • Patent number: 6128864
Abstract: An arch for a ceiling structure having a first vertical wall stud and a second vertical wall stud. The arch includes an arcuate center section having opposed ends and an arcuate under surface with a first radius of curvature. The arcuate center section is sized and configured such that the opposed ends thereof abut respective ones of the first and second wall studs. The arch further includes a first and second arcuate side section attached to the center section and respective ones of the first and second vertical wall studs. Each of the first and second side sections has an arcuate under surface with a second radius of curvature less than the first radius of curvature. Accordingly, the first and second side sections create a continuous transition between the under surface of the arcuate center section and respective ones of the first and second vertical wall studs.

  • Patent number: 5989553
Abstract: A general method for vaccinating against any pathogen is presented. The method utilizes expression library immunization, where an animal is inoculated with an expression library constructed from fragmented genomic DNA of the pathogen. All potential epitopes of the pathogen's proteins are encoded in its DNA, and genetic immunization is used to directly introduce one or more expression library clones to the immune system, producing an immune response to the encoded protein. Inoculation of expression libraries representing portions of the Mycoplasma pulmonis genome was shown to protect mice from subsequent challenge by this natural pathogen. Protection against Listeria.

  • Patent number: 5937706
Abstract: A carriage adapted to be slidably mounted on a track comprises a main body having a pair of retaining elements adapted for lateral movement therein. Each turning element is biased inwardly to allow the carriage to be mounted on and removed from a channel formed in the track. A pivotally mounted knife element is adapted to engage each retaining element thereby moving the retaining element outwardly to a position in which they engage the side edges of the channel formed in the track, thereby securing the carriage to the track.

  • Patent number: 5796168
Abstract: Reduced undercutting of a titanium-tungsten layer in a ball limiting metallurgy (BLM) is achieved in the preparation of solder ball interconnect structures by removing metal oxide film which forms on the titanium-tungsten layer and etching the titanium-tungsten layer in different steps. Removing the metal oxide with an acid solution prior to etching the titanium-tungsten layer provides for a more uniform etch of the titanium-tungsten layer.

  • Patent number: 5713682
Abstract: A paper handling device comprises a flexible, substantially U-shaped handle portion having first and second side members, the first and second side members terminating at first and second ends respectively; first and second arms are respectively disposed at the first and second ends and each directed substantially away from the handle portion; first and second tines depend transversely from the first and second arms respectively, the first and second tines extending in a generally parallel relation and normally spaced apart from each other by a distance greater than the spacing between pre-punched holes in the paper. Compressing the handle portion reduces the distance between the tines so as to allow the tines to be inserted into the respective holes in the paper.

  • Patent number: 5703971
Abstract: A process and device for analyzing image data and performing automatic optimization of a black and white image created by a scanner. The process and device performs dynamic thresholding by approximating the information level and the background level at every pixel in the image, the threshold being calculated as a function of the background and information levels at that point, and a characterization process step comparing the pixel intensity at that point with the threshold, so that if the pixel is darker, it is considered to be black, or if it is lighter, it is considered to be white.
