  • Patent number: 10829025
Abstract: A dump body apparatus including a dump body having an exterior wall defining a compartment for carrying a load. The exterior wall includes a front wall and first and second sidewalls. A first corner wall extends between the front wall and the first sidewall. The first corner wall is oriented at an obtuse angle relative to one or both of the front wall and the first sidewall. An opening is defined in the first corner wall and is in communication with the compartment. A door selectively closes off access to the compartment and a step may be provided below the door. An angled second corner wall may be provided between the front wall and the second sidewall. The angles of the first and second corner walls provide relatively unobstructed lines of sight for a driver seated in a cab of a vehicle that includes the dump body.

  • Publication number: 20180281753
Abstract: An apparatus and method for cleaning a large object such as a tractor-trailer. The apparatus is a cleaning vehicle including a frame with a plurality of wheels mounted thereon that allow the frame to move from one location to another across the ground. An arm mounted on the frame includes arm portions that may be telescoped to longitudinally, transversely, or vertically adjust the length of the arm portions. At least one rotatable brush is operatively engaged with the arm. The vehicle is positioned adjacent the large object and the arm is adjusted to position the at least one brush adjacent a surface to be cleaned. The arm portions are actuated to change length and thereby move the brush across the object's surface to clean the same. If two brushes are provided on the arm they may be moved toward or away from each other to clean two surfaces simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 9637183
Abstract: An aerodynamic device includes an inflatable member convertible between a deflated position and an inflated position at a speed certain. When in the inflated position, the inflatable member on the aerodynamic device extends between the cabin wall on a vehicle and a leading wall on a container supported by a trailer towed by the vehicle. The inflatable member fills a gap ordinarily between the cabin wall and trailer to encourage laminar flow as truck hauls trailer through an air stream. The encouragement of laminar flow reduces drag which results in increase fuel economy for the truck's engine, amongst other advantages.

  • Patent number: 9267314
Abstract: A locking assembly and method of securing a dump truck tailgate to a sidewall of the dump truck, and a truck incorporating the same. The locking assembly includes a pressurized pin mechanism mounted on one of tailgate and the sidewall; and a spool mounted on the other of the tailgate and the sidewall. The spool is engageable with the pin mechanism to lock the locking assembly and secure the tailgate to the sidewall, and is disengageable from the pin mechanism to unlock the locking assembly and release the tailgate from its securement to the sidewall. A hinge assembly is provided on an opposite side of the tailgate from the locking assembly. The tailgate is selectively pivotable relative to the truck bed about a vertical axis extending through the hinge assembly or about a horizontal axis extending through both of the locking assembly and the hinge assembly.

  • Publication number: 20140110654
Abstract: A handrail assembly for a tank trailer and a yoke assembly forming a part thereof. Handrail assembly provides a safety device for an operator walking along a top wall of the tank trailer. The handrail assembly includes a top rail, a plurality of vertical members, a safety wire and, in most instances, a bottom rail. Each yoke assembly secures one of the top and bottom ends of the vertical members to either of the top and bottom rails or to a mounting bracket on the tank. Each yoke assembly includes a base member engaged partially in a bore of the vertical member, and a cradle member engaged with an exterior all of the top or bottom rails or mounting bracket. Base and cradle members are secured together by a pivot pin. Fluid-actuated cylinders extending between the vertical members and the tank move the handrail assembly between collapsed and expanded positions.

  • Patent number: 7520558
Abstract: An open-top cargo box for a truck trailer that is selectively coverable with bow-supported tarpaulin system. The cargo box has an interior cavity defined by front and rear walls connected together by a pair of longitudinally extending side walls. Each side wall has an upper horizontal surface defining a plurality of spaced-apart apertures therein. Each aperture has a first cross-sectional shape and a first size. The bows that support the tarpaulin include vertically oriented ends, each of which has a second cross-sectional shape and a second size. The second shape and size of the ends of the bows is smaller than the first shape and size of the apertures. Consequently, if the side walls of the cargo box spread apart under pressure exerted by a load carried in the cavity, the ends of the bows slidably move within the apertures in the side walls in a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axes of the side walls. The side walls may be reinforced proximate the apertures.
