  • Patent number: 4880735
Abstract: Improved fermentation process for producing the Gram-positive antibiotic A47934 which comprises cultivating a new strain of Streptomyces toyocaensis, NRRL 18112, and a biologically purified culture of this microorganism are provided.

  • Patent number: 4739374
Abstract: A color image copying system (10) includes a light modulator (12) that receives incident light rays emanating from a source (14) of light. The light modulator comprises a light dispersing apparatus (54) that disperses different wavelengths of the incident light rays to different locations on a focal surface (60). A filter mask (68) aligned with the focal surface transmits preselected wavelengths of the ultraviolet light and blocks light of all other wavelengths. Each of a set of light valves (86, 88, 90) receives a different wavelength of light transmitted by the filter mask and intensity modulates it in accordance with image pixel information provided by an information source (16). An optical focusing apparatus (56) focuses the intensity-modulated wavelengths of light to a relatively small location (20) on an image focal surface (22) which is aligned with a light-sensitive medium (24).

  • Patent number: 4728159
Abstract: A file storage unit has a generally rectangular frame which is open at the front for receipt of a sliding drawer. The drawer has downwardly projecting ridges which slide along the interior of the frame. In addition, the front portion of the frame is provided with a snap-on reinforcing rim which acts to strengthen the unit and to accommodate the stacking of several units. A stop means is provided on the drawer which contacts a portion of the rim to prevent the drawer from being accidently withdrawn from the frame. Further, openings on the rear wall of the frame and in the handle of the drawer allow the unit to be conveniently carried.

  • Patent number: 4666846
Abstract: The present invention discloses novel recombinant DNA cloning vectors for use in Streptomyces and related organisms. These novel cloning vectors contain genetic markers that provide antibiotic resistance or colorimetric selectivity to the host cells. The invention further comprises transformants of the aforementioned vectors.

  • Patent number: 4573828
Abstract: A roof support, suitable for use in mines, includes a floor-engaging structure, extendible and contractible prop means carried by that structure, and a roof-engageable canopy supported by the prop means. The canopy comprises a main portion and an extension portion, each of which includes a plate member the upper face of which is engageable with the roof. Fastening means, which are provided for rigidly connecting the extension portion and the main portion together, include at least one connecting member adapted to lie within the thickness of the plate members, or substantially so.

  • Patent number: 4529464
Abstract: Disclosed is a container especially adapted for use in storing and heating comestibles intended for final preparation in microwave ovens. The container comprises a molded pulp tray, having a plastic film, preferably a polyester, adhered to its product-contacting surfaces. The container exhibits high strength and excellent product protection, but yet is low in cost. The process for making the container takes advantage of the porous nature of the pulp tray by drawing a vacuum directly through the tray to draw a film of heated plastic into adhering contact. The film is preferably extruded as the tray, carried in a vacuum mold, passes directly under the extruder.
