  • Patent number: 10833424
Abstract: A communication device provides an elongate antenna element having a first and a second end separated by an aperture. A transceiver is electrically grounded to a ground plane and communicatively coupled via an antenna feed to the elongate antenna element. A first conductor is electrically attached to a first edge of the ground plane. An antenna switching controller selectively actuates the aperture switch to be in one of the open and closed positions based on whether the communication device is positioned on a body. The open position electrically isolates (a) the first end of the elongate antenna element; (b) the second end of the elongate antenna element; and (c) the first conductor. The closed position electrically couples: (a) the first end of the elongate antenna element; (b) the second end of the elongate antenna element; and (c) the first conductor.

  • Publication number: 20200242198
Abstract: A method includes detecting, by sensors, a current context associated with an electronic device. The method includes dynamically loading a neural network and selected features into a phrase-spotting audio front-end (AFE) processor. The neural network is configured, based on the current context, with at least one domain having an associated set(s) of trigger words. The method includes detecting, audio content that matches a trigger word from among the sets of trigger words associated with the at least one selected domain. The method includes in response to detecting audio content that matches the trigger word, outputting a wake-up signal to an application processor (AP). The AFE processor utilizes less computational resources than the AP. The method includes, in response to receiving the wake-up signal, the AP waking up and performing additional computation based on the matching trigger word. The method includes outputting results of the additional computation to an output device.

  • Publication number: 20200221400
Abstract: An electronic device, method, and computer program product provide an asynchronous quick connection or reconnection between wireless connecting devices for low-latency transitions in presentation of content to a user. A first device transmits an out-of-band frame sync signal to a second device to prompt the second device to synchronize clocks with the first device and to one of: (i) connect; and (ii) reconnect an over-the-air (OTA) communication session with the first device. First and second devices establish the OTA communication session. The establishment is expedited by the out-of-band frame sync signal. First device transmits output data, via the in-band OTA session, by the first device to the second device to present the output data on a second user output device of the second device.

  • Patent number: 10698117
Abstract: Implementations relate to systems and methods for location assistance using devices (104) in a personal area network (PAN). In one scenario, a user may use two separate location-enabled devices, such as a wearable personal device (102) and a cellular telephone device (104). In cases, one of those devices may have reached a higher or farther-developed state in terms of generating or storing location information (108) for the user's current position, as compared to the opposite device. This can take place, for instance, when the first (e.g. wearable) device (102) is first turned on. The two devices use platforms and techniques to exchange location information and carry out GPS or other operations to furnish the device that is lagging in position processing progress with assistance which will speed up or otherwise enhance the position fix for that device.

  • Patent number: 10085231
Abstract: This application is directed to a method for initiating a driver mode or a passenger mode of an electronic device. A first wireless device determines whether a second wireless device associated with the user is communicatively connected to a vehicle. The second wireless device is distinct from the first wireless device. In accordance with determination that the second wireless device is connected to the vehicle, the first wireless device causes at least one of the first wireless device, the second wireless device and the vehicle kit device to operate in the driver mode configured for exchanging information between a driver and the vehicle. In accordance with determination that the second wireless device is not connected to the vehicle, the first wireless device detects that the first client device operates in proximity to the vehicle, and prevents the first and second wireless devices from operating in the driver mode.

  • Publication number: 20170230912
Abstract: In a method of controlling power level of transmit signals from a wireless communication device that is communicating with a plurality of wireless ad-hoc network nodes as part of an ad-hoc network, a value of a usage parameter of a communication between the wireless device and a first wireless ad-hoc network node of the plurality of nodes is detected. A power level of a transmit signal from the wireless device to the first wireless ad-hoc network node is set to a level corresponding to the value of the usage parameter. A device for adjusting a power level in a wireless device includes a parameter detection circuit, that detects a parameter indicative of a relationship between the wireless device and a wireless ad-hoc network node, and a power selection circuit that sets a transmit signal power level from the wireless device to a level corresponding to the parameter detected by the parameter detection circuit.

  • Patent number: 9596693
Abstract: A method for multi-radio coexistence receives historical frequency usage information and historical time usage information from a first radio. The method creates a time and frequency mask by extrapolating the historical frequency and time usage information to future times and frequencies when the first radio will be active and uses the time and frequency mask to schedule a second radio to avoid receiving when the first radio will likely be active. A related apparatus has a collocated radio input for receiving timing usage information, a non-collocated radio input for receiving frequency usage information, and a time and frequency mask generator for creating a time and frequency mask using the timing usage information and the frequency usage information. The method and apparatus predicts collocated and non-collocated radio activity in both the time and frequency dimensions to reduce interference among radios operating in overlapping or adjacent frequency bands.

  • Patent number: 9386542
Abstract: The present disclosure sets forth a method for tracking path loss in which a monitoring device issues a series of power step commands and transmit power requests to a reporting device, receives transmit power data in response to the transmit power requests, and creates a data structure (e.g., a table) that maps the number of steps (e.g., number of steps increased or decreased) of the power step commands with the reported transmit powers. This process is performed during the initial connection between the monitoring device and the reporting device.
