  • Patent number: 5869066
Abstract: This invention relates generally to in vitro methods for inducing or enhancing expression of enteric bacterial antigens and/or virulence factors thereby producing antigenically enhanced enteric bacteria, to methods for using antigenically enhanced enteric bacteria and to vaccines comprising antigenically enhanced enteric bacteria. Further, a vaccine comprising a Campylobacter bacterium having en enhanced antigenic property is disclosed. The culture medium conditions comprise 0.05% to 3% bile or 0.025% to 0.6% of one or more bile acids or salts. In addition a divalent cation chelator can also be included in the culture medium. The bacteria culture is in a growth phase at early log phase and between early log phase and stationary phase. The enhanced antigenic property is a higher level of an immunogenic antigen when compared to the antigenic property of the same bacteria grown on brain heart infusion broth.

  • Patent number: 5858352
Abstract: Methods using in vitro processes are disclosed for inducing or enhancing expression of enteric bacterial antigens or virulence factors. The methods, therefore, produce antigenically enhanced bacteria for use in vaccines. Also disclosed are methods for using the antigenically enhanced bacteria as well as the vaccines containing the enteric bacteria. Specifically, a whole enteric bacteria or components thereof, are provided by Shigella species. In addition to this microorganism there are other enteric bacteria, such as Campylobacter species and Helicobacter pylori, which are useful for inducing or enhancing expression of enteric bacterial antigens and/or virulence factors.

  • Patent number: 5782219
Abstract: The reciprocating engine more particularly intended for high pressure applications or motor vehicle CO.sub.2 air conditioning systems, has a wobble plate transmission, whose wobble plate (3) can assume different inclined positions for power control purposes. For this purpose is provided a wobble joint constructed as a knuckle joint, allowing the tilting movement of the wobble plate (3) supported on the engine shaft (4) through a slot guide (11, 11') of a driving pin (9). A good controllability of the reciprocating engine results from friction-reducing engine components provided on the driving pin (9) and comprising bearings (32, 33), which allow a rotation of the driving pin (9) about its longitudinal axis, as well as a sliding bush or a roller bearing (47) on one of the pin ends (40, 43) engaging in slot guides (11, 11'). In addition, in the vicinity of the more strongly loaded pin end is provided an axial force-absorbing sliding disk (42).

  • Patent number: 5752806
Abstract: The internally axed single-rotation machine has inlet and outlet channels , 6), which extend arcuately round the circular cylindrical housing space (11) enclosing the rotors (1, 2) to such an extent that the tangentially connecting inlet and outlet connections (12, 13) cross and the outlet channel (6) extends over part of the inlet channel (5). In the vicinity of this approach between the outlet and inlet channels (6, 5) there is a flow connection (19), which continues the arcuate shape of the outlet channel (6) to that of the inlet channel (5). The gas pressure in the outlet channel (6) is variable by a control element (20) located in said flow connection (19). The single-rotation machine pressure control is associated with minimum noise generation and minimum flow losses and a particularly compact construction is obtained.

  • Patent number: 5694784
Abstract: In a vehicle air conditioning system CO.sub.2 as the refrigerant is compred by an internally controlled swash plate compressor (1) and circulates in a main circuit (2) having at least two heat exchangers (3, 5). An expansion valve (4) subdivides the main circuit (2) into a high and a low pressure part. The capacity control of the swash plate compressor (1) and therefore the air conditioning system takes place by means of a valve (23), which is located in a partial circuit (22) branched from the main circuit (2) by means of a constant choke (21) and which includes the drive chamber (18) of the swash plate compressor (1), so that in the latter it is possible to modify the pressure for adjusting the stroke length of the compressor piston (7). The branching point for the partial circuit (22) is located on an oil separator (20), which is located in the flow direction behind a first heat exchanger (5), so that the swash plate compressor (1) is cooled and is supplied with returned, cooled oil.

  • Patent number: 5397440
Abstract: Process for isolating dimethyl 4,4'-biphenyldicarboxylate from residues of DMT production, which includes first distilling the residues at a pressure of at most 7 mbar at a boiler temperature from 200.degree. to 350.degree. C., subsequently treating the distillate which distills over in the range from 230.degree. to 270.degree. C. at a pressure of, for example, 0.2 mbar for from 10 to 60 minutes with 0.7 to 10 times the amount of an organic solvent at a temperature from 70.degree. to 180.degree. C., if required, separating the clear solution from undissolved components, cooling the removed clear solution to a temperature from 45.degree. to 65.degree. C. and allowing it to crystallize at this temperature, resulting in a suspension of dimethyl 4,4'-biphenyldicarboxylate crystals from which the crystals are isolated by washing one or more times with the same or a different solvent and by drying.

  • Patent number: 5255432
Abstract: The seal or pattern between two machine parts has on one of the sealing gap-forming, facing surfaces (5) a plastic layer (1) with closely juxtaposed depressions (8) which have the form of partly cut off voids of an expanded plastic structure. They are formed by the removal of a plastic layer (3) expanded on the machine part, the layer thickness being so uniformly reduced that the voids (4) of the bottom void layer (4) adjacent to the base surface (5) of the machine part are open. This avoids the insulating action of the closed voids of an expanded plastic layer and the latter has a very limited weight, which avoids any risk of the layer being detached or separated due to centrifugal forces. Moreover, in simple manner, a honeycomb-like, open surface structure is obtained, so that there is a labyrinth effect in the sealing gap.
