  • Publication number: 20060103284
Abstract: A ground electrode for a spark plug has a through hole located adjacent a firing end of the electrode, with a precious metal firing tip extending through the hole. The firing tip is compressed axially to define a bulging portion extending radially outwardly from its longitudinal axis to mechanically retain the firing tip within the through hole. The firing tip additionally has an enlarged head or otherwise expanded portion at each axial end of the tip to provide a second mechanical interlock of the tip to the ground electrode. The firing tip can then also be welded to further strengthen its connection to the ground electrode. • Publication number: 20050178344
Abstract: A gas delivery system for an appliance, such as a water heater, including a gas control valve and a blower housing assembly which are mounted to the water heater proximate one another. The blower housing assembly includes a motor for driving an impeller within the blower housing, and an outlet of the blower housing is connected to the gas burner assembly of the water heater. A gas supply conduit extends from the control valve into the blower housing, and the outlet of the gas supply conduit is disposed within the blower housing interior near the blower housing inlet and the central portion of the impeller. In operation, rotation of the impeller draws a flow of air through the blower housing. Concurrently, gas is supplied through the gas supply conduit to the interior of the blower housing near the impeller, and the gas is mixed with the flow of air to form an air/gas mixture which is supplied through the outlet of the blower housing to the gas burner for combustion.

  • Publication number: 20050065445
Abstract: A cardiac arrest monitor and alarm system including an implantable medical device having at least three electrodes, preferably but not necessarily subcutaneous, positioned with respect to a heart organ and forming an orthogonal lead configuration to continuously monitor an electrocardiographic signal of the heart organ. A microdevice, preferably but not necessarily operatively connected to the medical device, detects a deviation from a normal heart electrical activity and emits a signal to an external receiver. Upon verification of the signal from the microdevice, the external receiver activates a programmed annunciator circuit to alert bystanders to deploy an AED and/or activate a communication link automatically transmitting an alarm and the electrocardiographic signal to a remote transceiver.

  • Patent number: 6731536
Abstract: In protecting Flash memory data, a flexible system and method provides for different levels of protection. It offers the ability to dynamically lock a sector of memory using a dynamic protection bit in volatile memory. It offers persistent locking of a sector using a non-volatile bit in memory and locking this status using a lock bit in volatile memory. It offers yet further protection by including a password mode which requires a password to clear the lock bit. The password is located in an unreadable, one time programmable area of the memory. The memory also includes areas, whose protection state is controlled by an input signal, for storing boot code in a protected manner.

  • Patent number: 6348820
Abstract: A high-side, low-side driver that controls voltage from a voltage source to an inductive or resistive load includes a power transistor with a gate, a source and a drain. The driver is configured in a high-side configuration when the load is connected between the source and ground and the drain is connected to the voltage source and in a low-side configuration when the load is connected between the drain and the voltage source and the source is connected to ground. A gate drive circuit turns the power transistor on and off. The positive clamp circuit is connected to the drain and the voltage source. The positive clamp circuit provides a recirculation path for inductive energy that is stored in the inductive load when a loss of reverse battery condition occurs or when ground is lost.

  • Patent number: 6338102
Abstract: A method for transferring data between non-contiguous buffers in a memory and an I/O device via a system I/O bus uses a descriptor queue stored in memory. Each descriptor points to a buffer and includes the length of the buffer. The I/O device is provided with the base address of the queue, the length of the queue and a current address which at initialization is the same as the base address. When data is to be transferred a device driver located in the processor sends the number of available descriptors (DescrEnq) to the I/O device which accesses the descriptors individually or in burst mode to gain access to the data buffers identified by the descriptors.
