    Abstract: A high-voltage (HV) compound switch can include coupling circuitry to help provide better slew rate (dV/dt) control, such as to limit electromagnetic energy radiation during switching, which can cause undesirable EMI. Further, efficiency and on-state resistance can be improved by controllably forward-biasing the “normally on” JFET when the compound switch is in an “on” state. In such an on-state, the JFET temperature can be monitored, such as by monitoring the gate-source junction voltage or the gate current of the JFET. Such temperature information can be used for control or other purposes.

    Abstract: One or more switchable magnetic systems is located near a battery attachment surface of an electric vehicle, where the battery attachment surface is configured to accept and electronically connect to a battery pack. The electric vehicle also includes a control system that operates the one or more switchable magnetic system switching from a first to a second state. In the first state the magnetic field of the switchable magnetic system secures the battery pack to the battery attachment surface so that the battery pack is electronically coupled to an electric motor of the electric vehicle. When the control system receives a message corresponding to removal of the battery pack, the control system switches the switchable magnetic system to the second state such that the battery pack is removable from the battery attachment surface.

    Abstract: A spiral flute tap includes a body having an axial forward end and an axial rearward end. The body has a cylindrical shank portion adjacent the axial rearward end, a threaded fluted portion adjacent the axial forward end, a non-threaded fluted portion between the cylindrical shank portion and the threaded fluted portion, and a central, longitudinal axis. The spiral flute tap further includes a plurality of helical flutes formed at a helix angle, HA, with respect to the central, longitudinal axis of the tap that continuously increases in magnitude in the threaded fluted portion. In other words, the lead of the plurality of helical flutes continuously decreases in magnitude in a rearward direction for a predetermined distance. In one example, the helix angle, HA, varies at a rate of between 0.5 degrees/mm to 4.0 degrees/mm. A method of making the spiral flute tap is also disclosed.

    Abstract: Techniques for ensuring content output to a user conforms to a quality of the user's speech, even when a speechlet or skill ignores the speech's quality, are described. When a system receives speech, the system determines an indicator of the speech's quality (e.g., whispered, shouted, fast, slow, etc.) and persists the indicator in memory. When the system receives output content from a speechlet or skill, the system checks whether the output content is in conformity with the speech quality indicator. If the content conforms to the speech quality indicator, the system may cause the content to be output to the user without further manipulation. But, if the content does not conform to the speech quality indicator, the system may manipulate the content to render it in conformity with the speech quality indicator and output the manipulated content to the user.
