Abstract: Disclosed is an air vent for mounting directly to an exterior wall of a structure to allow air flow from an interior space of the structure to the ambient environment. The air vent comprises a body comprising an opening and a siding portion disposed below the opening. The air vent further comprises a first siding piece secured to the siding portion that is substantially similar to the siding of the exterior wall. The air vent further comprises a damper moveably engaged with the body between a closed position where the damper blocks air flow thru the opening and an open position where the damper allows air flow thru the opening. The air vent further comprises a second siding piece secured to the damper that is substantially similar to and overlaps the first siding piece in the closed position. Unlike conventional devices, the air vent of the present invention blends into the siding on the exterior wall increasing the aesthetic appearance of the siding.

Abstract: The invention relates to a simple and inexpensive method for simultaneous isolation of cells and/or bioparticles from complex fluids that differ in one or more surface properties (e.g. cell sub-populations). For that purpose, the surface of a solid carrier is modified in a manner to be provided with different capture molecules, which allows in an additional step a specifically “neutralizing” of individual target particles. Different target particles with both identical and different recognition structures are to be gradually detached from the capture particles and isolated/separated. Areas of application of the invention are biotechnology (including biological and medical research), diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

Abstract: Mixing, physical and/or chemical reactions and separation are basic method steps in biological research and diagnosis. In research in particular, there is a need for problem-specific laboratory systems, but these are not commercially available because of small batch sizes and because of the specific problem involved. In the absence of these systems, existing vessels, filters, centrifuges, etc., have to be improvised in order to solve the problem. The aim of the invention is to make available a system of functional units that can in each case be plugged together depending on the methodological problem.
