  • Publication number: 20090035485
Abstract: A method for forming a coating on a substrate, the method comprising forming an active element coating over the substrate with a cathodic arc deposition process, and performing a diffusion coating process on at least the active element coating with an aluminum-based compound and a halide activator.
    Type: Application
    Filed: August 2, 2007
    Publication date: February 5, 2009
    Applicant: United Technologies Corporation
    Inventor: Michael J. Minor
  • Publication number: 20080264444
Abstract: The present invention is a method for processing a metal component comprising exposing a carbide-based coating to fluoride ions, thereby extracting a carbide material from the carbide-based coating to provide a residual coating on the metal component, and removing the residual coating from the metal component.
    Type: Application
    Filed: April 30, 2007
    Publication date: October 30, 2008
    Applicant: United Technologies Corporation
Inventors: Michael J. Minor, Paul M. Pellet
  • Publication number: 20080265005
Abstract: A method for processing a metal component comprising inserting a graphitic preform into an aperture of the metal component, brazing the metal component, and removing at least a portion of the graphitic preform from the aperture with a thermal process in an oxygen-containing atmosphere.
    Type: Application
    Filed: April 30, 2007
    Publication date: October 30, 2008
    Applicant: United Technologies Corporation
Inventors: Michael J. Minor, Paul M. Pellet
  • Publication number: 20080179381
Abstract: A method for repairing a metal component having a crack, the method comprising depositing a brazing material into the crack of the metal component, and exposing the metal component to a plurality of heating cycles. Each successive heating cycle has a temperature that is less than a temperature of a previous heating cycle, and a duration that is at least as long as a duration of the previous heating cycle. The plurality of heating cycles comprises an initial heating cycle having a temperature sufficient to at least substantially melt the brazing material within the crack.
    Type: Application
    Filed: January 25, 2007
    Publication date: July 31, 2008
    Applicant: United Technologies Corporation
Inventors: Michael J. Minor, Christopher J. Bischof, Paul M. Pellet
  • Publication number: 20080152831
Abstract: A maskant composition and a method of diffusion coating a metal component with the use of the maskant composition, where the maskant composition comprises a cross-linkable resin, a photoinitiator, and a gettering agent.
    Type: Application
    Filed: December 20, 2006
    Publication date: June 26, 2008
    Applicant: United Technologies Corporation
Inventors: Michael J. Minor, Jason E. Huxol
