  • Patent number: 5439267
Abstract: A chair includes a tubular arm support, an armrest, a lateral adjustment mechanism and a vertical height adjustment mechanism. The lateral adjustment mechanism includes a plurality of nested slides. One slide is connected to the vertical height adjustment mechanism. An uppermost slide supports the arm rest. The slides are adjustable laterally with respect to each other to position the armrest with respect to the chair. The vertical height adjustment mechanism includes a tubular liner insertable into the arm support. The liner defines a bore and a plurality of vertically spaced notches or grooves. A latch tube telescopes within the bore of the liner. An upper end of the latch tube is connected to the lateral adjustment mechanism. The latch is pivotally positioned within the latch tube. The latch includes a latch end movable into and out of engagement with the notches. An actuator engages the latch to move it between locked and unlocked positions.

  • Patent number: 5220871
Abstract: A freestanding modular furniture arrangement is provided to create workstations in open office plans, and other similar applications. Each furniture unit includes a worksurface with capped cutouts in the rear corners to mount overhead cabinets, privacy screens, and other furniture accessories. A mounting rail extends continuously along the rearward edge of each worksurface, and is capable of removably supporting therein a plurality of different amenities, such as bookshelves, CRT stands, fans, task lamps, etc., so as to permit a worker to personalize his or her own workstation. A removable stanchion permits certain convertible amenities to be supported either freestanding on the worksurface, or along the rear of the worksurface on the mounting rail. An L-shaped intermediate leg is available to support the worksurface in a cantilevered fashion to facilitate unfettered task chair movement along the forward edge of the worksurface.

  • Patent number: 5152698
Abstract: A floor track system is provided to route utilities to workstations in open office plans, and the like. The floor track system includes a plurality of individual floor track segments, each of which has a hollow interior in which the utilities are housed and isolated. Each floor track segment also includes feet which independently support the track segment on the floor in a generally upright orientation, and an exterior shape which physically mates with the furniture units in the workstation, without supporting the same. Opposite ends of the floor track segments are detachably interconnected in a predetermined configuration to form a continuous, self-contained and self-supported utility raceway that is physically separate from the furniture units, yet dimensionally cooperates and blends in with them. Utility taps can be located throughout the floor track system to provide utilities to each of the workstations as required.

  • Patent number: 5103741
Abstract: A freestanding modular furniture arrangement is provided to create workstations in both open and closed office plans, and other similar applications. • Patent number: 4633639
Abstract: A modular construction block comprising a configuration built up from five indentical rectangular sub-blocks dimensioned in the ratio of 1:2:4 and assembled into an "H"-shaped symmetric block about either of two vertical perpendicular planes through the center of the block. The assemblage provides an "H"-shaped block wherein all external dimensions, slots and recesses are integer multiples of the minimum sub-block dimension. The blocks can be assembled together in a very wide variety of combinations to create utilitarian or decorative structures. The blocks may be sized for toy construction sets or for full sized building projects. The blocks may be formed of wood, plastic, metal, concrete or ceramic depending upon size and use.
