  • Patent number: 6484188
Abstract: A method of optimizing program code performance is disclosed. Applications written in the Java language can execute slowly. To speed up the execution time of a Java application certain slower executing methods within the application can be written in native code. When the slower executing methods are written in native code some of the advantages, such as automatic garbage collection, of the Java language are lost. Further, the resultant interface function calls between the Java methods and the native methods can result in inefficient code. The method optimizes programs written using both Java methods and native methods, i.e. mixed mode code, by analyzing a set of interface function calls from native methods to a Java Virtual Machine.

  • Patent number: 6289506
Abstract: Compilers are tools that generate efficient mappings from programs to machines A Java “Just In Time” runs as part of an application, and as such, it must be fast and efficient in its use of memory. To achieve good performance and further optimize code generation, the present invention introduces a method for optimizing Java performance using precompiled code. The method of the present invention first monitors the performance of program code during program execution. Then a list of program functions for possible native code compilation is created. The list may be created based upon static and dynamic analysis of the computer program. A plurality of program functions from said list of program functions is selected for optimization and native compilation. The selected program functions are precompiled into native program functions. The present invention also allows the precompiled native code reverted so that a user could explore the performance tuning until satisfactory.

  • Patent number: 6152581
Abstract: A housing frame preferably formable as a single integral unit being capable of use as a primary structural portion of a housing suitable for multiple exit sign configurations, the several exit sign configurations of the invention being either intended for emergency or non-emergency operation and further being intended for use with different light sources and power sources. The frame and associated plates forming the housing of the invention are preferably formed from polymeric material of a thickness less than that of prior "plastic" housings, the strength and rigidity necessary to proper operation of the housing being provided by a functionally interrelated combination of structural elements which allows a substantial reduction in material used for formation of the housing.

  • Patent number: 6135624
Abstract: A mounting plate capable of mounting emergency unit fixtures or similar fixtures in an industrial environment, the mounting plate of the invention being securely attachable to a variety of support structures including horizontal and vertical wall surfaces, posts of differing cross-sectional shapes and dimensions and Unistrut components. The mounting plate is formed generally as a flat body having integral portions formed out of plane to provide particular mounting functions. The unit fixtures per se mount directly to the mounting plate through engagement of openings formed on rear walls of the unit fixtures with free legs of bayonet mounts extending from a face of the mounting plate, the plate being snap-locked in certain embodiments to the fixtures, a locking mechanism being actuated on full engagement of the bayonet mounts to positively hold the unit fixtures to the mounting plate.

  • Patent number: 6134923
Abstract: A knitted cover and a method of forming a two-dimensional knitting pattern for the cover. The pattern is taken from two-dimensional development of the cover and has pairs of edges-to-be-joined in the conversion from two-dimensional development to three-dimensional cover. These edges are broken down into courses or rows of progressively changing lengths, and the courses or rows are rearranged to form new edges in which a particular course or row is not necessarily adjacent its original neighbour before rearrangement.

  • Patent number: 5988825
Abstract: A housing frame preferably formable as a single integral unit and being capable of use as a primary structural portion of a housing suitable for multiple exit sign configurations, the several exit sign configurations of the invention being either intended for emergency or non-emergency operation and further being intended for use with different light sources and power sources. The housing frame of the invention includes structural features which allow mounting of any one of a variety of light sources and mounting of those components necessary for operation of the light sources within a single housing, which housing is of a size reduced in volume relative to most presently available signs. Structural features of the frame also include in at least certain embodiments a printed circuit board comprising a platform and having essentially all circuit components including light emitting diode light sources and a battery for operation of the light sources in an emergency mode mounted on said printed circuit board.

  • Patent number: 5954423
Abstract: A substantially transparent and preferably textured diffuser element disposed in surmounting relation to an array of light emitting diodes intended to illuminate a legend-bearing sign panel of an exit sign or similar illuminated sign, the invention allows compact sign enclosure formation and provides even illumination of sign panels on all legend-bearing face walls of the exit sign even though multiple point light sources such as light emitting diodes comprise the illumination source. The diffuser element of the invention is preferably embodied in a tent-shaped configuration with a plurality of apertures disposed along the apex of the diffuser element with one each of the apertures being disposed immediately above each light emitting diode.

  • Patent number: 5816484
Abstract: A thermoplastic molded or formed container has four trapezoidal walls that incline upwardly and outwardly upstanding from a bottom wall to create a top opening that is larger than the bottom wall. Each side wall has a closure flap that is connected to it at an upper edge by a living hinge. A locking handle member in the shape of a loop with locking extensions extends from an edge of one flap and engages a slot in an opposite flap. The handle member is a loop with locking projections which engage the opposite flap surface, the handle member passing through the slot for manually grasping. The container may be square or rectangular in transverse section or a combination thereof with a conical truncated section.

  • Patent number: 5489063
Abstract: A plastic container has four trapezoidal walls that slant upward and outward to create a top that is larger than its bottom. Each sidewall has a closure flap that is connected to it by a living hinge. There are projections on two opposed sidewalls that are attachment points for a handle. The handles have several apertures that mate with the projections. The plurality of apertures allow the handle to be attached in close relation to the top of the container, allowing the handle to act as a tie-down for the closure flaps. The container also employs several means to limit the extent of nesting of the containers.

  • Patent number: 5485619
Abstract: A subscript table mapping system for optimizing the compilation of certain Fortran 90 array construction and array manipulation transformation functions. The subscript table data object of this invention is used to perform the three compiler optimizations, including subscript dependency analysis, subscript table transformation and optimized code generation. Application of a simple subscript mapping function tailored to the particular intrinsic Fortran 90 array variable transformation function permits compilation of executable binary code that saves substantial processing steps and data storage space by avoiding during execution the usual requirement for temporary storage of abstract transformational array variables.
