Patent number: 9173660Abstract: A method and device for reducing the damaging effects of radiant energy, blast, or concussive events includes applying pressure to at least one jugular vein to reduce the egress of blood from the cranial cavity during or before the incidence of the imparting event. Reducing blood outflow from the cranial cavity increases intracranial volume and/or pressure of the cerebrospinal fluid to reduce the risk of traumatic brain injury and injuries to the spinal column. Reducing blood outflow further increases the intracranial pressure and volume, and thereby increases the pressure and volume of the cochlear fluid, the vitreous humor and the cerebrospinal fluid to thereby reduce the risk of injury to the inner ear, internal structure of the eye and of the spinal column. In addition, increasing intracranial pressure and volume reduces the likelihood of brain injury and any associated loss of olfactory function.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: November 3, 2015Assignees: TBI Innovations, LLC, Thornhill Research, Inc.Inventors: David Smith, Kevin John Vititoe, Jamison Joseph Float, Chad Michael Leeder, Joseph A. Patent number: 9087363Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media for managing multiple personas within end user applications are disclosed. According to one method, a first profile definition defining a first persona through which a user accesses at least one social networking, OTT, or other hosted service and at least one trigger condition associated with the activation of the first persona is accessed. The method further includes determining a context for the user. The method further includes determining whether the context for the user satisfies the at least one trigger condition. In response to determining that the context satisfies the at least one trigger condition, the first persona is activated.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2011Date of Patent: July 21, 2015Assignee: GENBAND US LLCInventors: Michael Leeder, Carroll Louise Gray-Preston, James Angus McEachern, Richard C. Publication number: 20150043387Abstract: For an incoming session intended for a user element, a domain selection function (DSF) is provided in a multimedia subsystem (MS) to select a circuit-switched subsystem (CS) or MS domain to use when routing the incoming session to the user element. Regardless of the domain in which incoming sessions are originated, the incoming sessions intended for the user element are routed to an S-CSCF in the MS. The S-CSCF directly or indirectly employs the DSF to determine whether to use the MS or the CS for terminating the incoming session. Based on available domain selection criteria, the DSF will select an appropriate domain, such as the MS or CS, to use for routing the incoming session to the user element. The domain selection decision of the DSF is provided to the S-CSCF, which will proceed by routing the incoming session to the user element via the selected domain.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 18, 2014Publication date: February 12, 2015Inventors: Kaniz Mahdi, Michael Leeder, Joan Smith

Patent number: 8942227Abstract: The present invention provides a call/session control function in an Internet Protocol multimedia subsystem capable of providing enhanced filtering to select multimedia services to invoke upon processing a signaling message. In addition to analyzing internal information contained within the signaling message, external information can be used to identify multimedia services to invoke and when those multimedia services should be invoked. Upon receiving a signaling message, filtering criteria to apply for the signaling message is accessed. The filtering criteria define rules for invoking multimedia services. These rules will take into consideration external information, which is not found within the signaling message. The external information may relate to the date, time, presence information, location information, user information, group information, or network information.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2006Date of Patent: January 27, 2015Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Michael Leeder, Roy Sells

Publication number: 20150012652Abstract: An architecture which permits externalized management of services includes a number of management service capability (MSC) definitions. Each operator may associate a management service capability with a Service/Service Capability for managing various aspects of the Service/Service Capability. An interface enables a variety of different management systems to utilize a common MSC structure, independent of the information models, transport mechanisms and management interface of the system using the MSC. With such an arrangement, management related integration costs associated with integrating and bundling complex multi-media services is significantly reduced.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 23, 2014Publication date: January 8, 2015Applicant: ROCKSTAR CONSORTIUM US LPInventors: Sergio Fiszman, Laurence Beaulleu, Paul Ensing, Pierre Fournier, Elizabeth Goldrich, Kevin Howe-Patterson, Michael Leeder, David Price, Chris Ryerson, Richard Taylor

Patent number: 8817663Abstract: A method for creating and managing ad-hoc groups linked to an event and spanning multiple modes of communication includes creating an ad-hoc group associated with an event. Available modes of communication are determined for each participant in the group. For each mode of communication, first information for contacting each participant is determined. Second information that serves as an alias for each participant is determined. A consolidated view of the available modes of communication with each of the participants in the group is provided using the aliases.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2012Date of Patent: August 26, 2014Assignee: Genband US LLCInventors: James Angus McEachern, Richard Charles Taylor, Michael Leeder, Carroll Louise Gray-Preston, John McCready

Patent number: 8717876Abstract: A packet-based multimedia service is provided to a terminal in a network. A packet signaling connection is established between the terminal and the network. Signaling information for the multimedia service is transferred via the packet signaling connection using Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) or a similar protocol. A circuit bearer connection is also established with the terminal. Data for the multimedia service is transferred via the circuit bearer connection. This allows the data to be carried across networks which do not support the required QoS functionality for the packet-based service, or which cannot efficiently carry packet-based data. The circuit bearer connection can be established by a network entity or by the terminal. The circuit bearer can be interworked to a packet-switched bearer at some point in the network, such as at a gateway, so as to provide a remote party with the appearance that a fully packet-switched connection is being used.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2012Date of Patent: May 6, 2014Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Mark Watson, Richard Bodin, Michael Leeder

Publication number: 20140073300Abstract: Systems and methods for managing telecommunication services using proximity-based technologies are described. In some embodiments, a method may include detecting, by a first communication device (e.g., a laptop computer, a netbook computer, a tablet computer, a cellular phone, a smartphone, etc.), a proximity device (e.g., a Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) tag, a Near Field Communications (NFC) tag, etc.) coupled to or integrated within a second communication device. The method may also include triggering an operation configured to manage a telecommunication service based, at least in part, upon the detection of the proximity device. In some implementations, the operation may be configured to reduce a number of manual operations that would otherwise be involved in managing the telecommunication service. For instance, in a non-limiting example, the operation may cause a routing of a communication directed at the first communication device to the second communication device.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 10, 2012Publication date: March 13, 2014Applicant: GENBAND US LLCInventors: Michael Leeder, Richard C. Patent number: 8667579Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media for bridging user authentication, authorization, and access between web-based and telecom domains are disclosed. In one example, a method includes issuing, to an application hosted in a web-based network, an access token associated with a user identifier subscribed to a telecommunications network, wherein the access token is issued in response to receiving telecommunications network credentials from a client device associated with the user identifier and receiving, at an over the top (OTT) proxy element in the telecommunications network from the application, the access token for requesting user data associated with the client device to be used to access the application. The method further includes retrieving the user data if the access token is valid a telecommunications network context condition is met and providing the user data to the application, wherein access to the application by the client device is based on the user data.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2011Date of Patent: March 4, 2014Assignee: Genband US LLCInventor: Michael Leeder
