  • Patent number: 7665681
Abstract: A roller mill for pulverizing material and separating the pulverized material has a mill for crushing the material and a classifier disposed on the mill for separating the crushed material. The mill includes a grinding mechanism that has a plurality of grinding rolls and a grinding ring that coact to pulverize material within a mill housing, which defines a grinding chamber. The classifier is a centrifugal-type classifier having a motor-driven rotor disposed within a classifier housing, which define a classifying chamber. The rotor has a plurality of blades that extend outwardly from the rotor. As the rotor rotates within the classifying chamber, the blades separate fine sized particles from oversized particles by passing the finer sized particles through the blades, and contacting and propelling the oversized particles against the classifier housing. The oversize particles fall downward through an outer annular passage defined by a baffle and the mill housing back to the grinding mechanism.

  • Publication number: 20100019074
Abstract: A hammermill, such as an imp mill 10, for pulverizing material includes a housing 16 defining a grinding chamber 14 having a grinding apparatus 12 disposed therein. The material is fed into the grinding chamber to the grinding apparatus through an inlet conduit 24, and the resulting ground material is directed from the grinding chamber through an outlet conduit 28. The grinding apparatus includes a plurality of hammer disks 32 axially spaced along a rotor 34, wherein disks 32 are disposed within the grinding chamber 14. A plurality of rows 41-46 of hammers 30 is attached to the hammer disks 32. The hammers 30 of each respective row of hammers are circumferentially spaced around the hammer disks 32, wherein each row of hammers is formed to provide generally uniform wear across each row of hammers. The uniform wear may be achieved by forming the hammers 30 of different hardness or wear resistant qualities, and/or configuring the rows of hammers with different shapes.

  • Publication number: 20090141061
Abstract: A method of controlling a motor to cause it to execute a move toward a target position including calculating a deceleration position, wherein when the deceleration position is reached, the motor will be caused to execute a deceleration in a manner that will result in the motor stopping short of the target position, and determining whether the requested move is a first move type after the motor has reached the deceleration position and the deceleration is complete. If the requested move is a first move type, the method includes causing the motor to move toward the target position at a first velocity, and if the requested move is a second move type, the method includes causing the DC motor to move toward the requested target position at a second velocity, wherein the second velocity is greater than the first velocity. Settling time is also varied depending on move type.

  • Publication number: 20090121060
Abstract: A roller mill 10 for pulverizing fine material has a grinding mechanism that includes a plurality of grinding rolls 64 and a grinding ring 66 that coact to pulverize material within a mill housing. The grinding ring has an inner grinding surface wherein the inner surface includes an upper vertical portion and inwardly sloped lower portion. The lower portion of the ring provides a means for retaining more fine particles on the ring during pulverizing, as well as an increase in grinding surface. The grinding rolls have a generally cylindrical shape with an outer grinding surface that includes an upper vertical portion and a lower portion of the outer grinding surface. The outer grinding surface of the roll is complementary to the inner grinding surface of the grinding ring.

  • Patent number: 7267293
Abstract: A high efficiency bowl mill (100) is provided by the present invention. Included in the high efficiency bowl mill (100) is a plow (185) that is downstream of a grinding roll (180) on a grinding surface (145). The plow (185) loosens material that has been compacted by the grinding roll (180). Also included is a deflector (165) that redirects an air stream so as to pick up material loosened by the plow (185) and deposit material requiring further grinding. An outlet (201) of an inverted cone (200) is positioned so as to deposit material for pulverization on the grinding surface (145) and to restrict the air stream from entering the inverted cone (200).

  • Patent number: 6913054
Abstract: A device for moistening an envelope flap includes a mechanism which defines an envelope feed path and a plate disposed adjacent the envelope feed path. The plate passes between the envelope body and the envelope flap. A plurality of orifices formed in the plate discharge moistening fluid received from a reservoir onto the envelope flap. The moistening device also includes a valve mechanism to selectively supply each of the orifices with moistening fluid from the reservoir. A flap sensing mechanism is disposed adjacent the envelope feed path for sensing an edge portion of the envelope flap and operatively connected to the valve mechanism to supply signals to the valve mechanism to selectively actuate the valve mechanism to selectively supply moistening fluid to the orifices in response to the sensing of the edge portion of the envelope flap.

  • Patent number: 6902126
Abstract: A hybrid turbine classifier for a coal pulverizer includes a cone disposed within the separator body of the pulverizer. The cone extends downwardly from a base to a frustum which forms an opening for depositing coal particles on the grinding table of the pulverizer. The outer surface of the cone and the separator body define an outer passage for coal/air flow, containing a mixture of smaller and larger coal particles, from the grinding table. A circular, first classifier cage disposed proximate to the base of the cone defines a circumferential passage between the outer passage and the cavity of the cone. The first classifier cage includes static, circumferentially-spaced vanes which direct the coal/air flow in a spiraling, circular flow path within the cavity. The flow path defines a first flow direction. A circular, second classifier cage is coaxially disposed within the first classifier cage.

  • Patent number: 6179276
Abstract: A heat transfer assembly for a rotary regenerative air preheater has heat transfer plates which include means for spacing the plates apart to form flow passages and a plurality of rows of V-shaped ribs extending across the flow passages. Alternate rows of V-shaped ribs on each plate protrude outwardly from opposite surfaces of the plate. Several arrangements for aligning the ribs on one plate with the ribs on the adjacent plate are described as are alternate orientations of the adjacent rows of ribs on each plate. The relationship of the height of the ribs to the plate spacing is defined as is the relationship of the rib spacing to the rib height and the plate spacing to the length of the V-shaped rib sections.
