  • Patent number: 7861123
Abstract: Loop interface failure is managed. A first device on a loop is identified as a potential cause of the loop interface failure. The loop is tested with the first device functionally removed from the loop. Depending on the results of the test, it is determined that the first device is not the cause of the loop interface failure and a second device on the loop is identified as the cause of the loop interface failure.

  • Patent number: 7779306
Abstract: A method for automatically diagnosing faults a data storage system. The system includes a plurality of enclosures each having: a primary port; an expansion port; a plurality of disk drives; and a link control card coupled to the primary port and to the expansion port and the plurality of disk drives. The link control card includes a cut through switch having: disk drive port error counters for counting at ports of the plurality of disk drives; a primary port error counter for counting cumulative errors at the primary port, and an expansion port error counter for counting cumulative errors at the expansion port. The primary ports and expansion ports are serially interconnected to the storage processor through a fiber channel loop. The method sequentially reads counters in each one of the enclosures to determine whether errors counted in any one of such counters exceeds a predetermined threshold over a predetermined period of time.

  • Patent number: 7624300
Abstract: Storage stability is managed. It is detected that a disk drive is requesting to be taken offline. The disk drive is begun to be treated as being in a probation state. If within an acceptable period of time the disk drive requests to be put back online, treatment of the disk drive as being in a probation state is stopped, and only any portions of the disk drive data that were the subject of write requests involving the disk drive while the disk drive was being treated as being in a probation state are rebuilt.

  • Publication number: 20090040051
Abstract: A system and method for identifying first responders at the scene of a hazardous site employs RFID technology to assemble an electronic ride list of first responders at a hazardous site. The electronic ride list is generated by polling the first responders on vehicles en route to the hazardous site. Each electronic ride list is sent to a central location, and an aggregated electronic ride list is assembled employing all of the individual electronic ride lists.

  • Patent number: 7454561
Abstract: A system sets a disk access inhibitor flag whenever a disk drive is placed by the system in an inaccessible condition. The drive operates to set a bit therein when the drive has placed itself in a by-pass condition. During each polling event, the system determines: (1) whether the bit has been set; and (2) whether the disk access inhibitor flag has been set. If the bit has been set and such disk access inhibitor flag has been set, the system maintains the drive in the inaccessible condition; otherwise, the drive is accessible to the system. If, during a polling event, the bit has been set but that drive has not had a bit set during a relatively long period of time, the system maintains the drive accessible to the system unless the drive sets the bit during a subsequent predetermined wait period, after which the system sets the flagdisk access inhibitor flag and places the drive in the inaccessible condition.

  • Publication number: 20070108805
Abstract: A reversible chair is disclosed which permits the user to sit with either a conventional backrest or to rest his or her chest against the same element in a “forward chair” configuration. The rest is attached to the seat with a side-mounted support arm such that no central support must be straddled when the chair is used as a forward chair. In certain embodiments, the rest is moveable from a backrest position to a front rest position. In this way, the user may face the same direction on the seat in either configuration thereby permitting optimal contouring of the seating surface. In yet other embodiments, the attachment of the rest to the seat is adjustable in a fore and aft direction. Armrests are provided in certain embodiments which are moveable from a position which extends from the front of the back/front rest to a position which extends from the opposite side of the rest.

  • Patent number: 7193184
Abstract: An oven for providing radiant and impingement heat to a food item. The oven includes a fan mechanism for drawing air around the radiant heat elements of the oven. The air is then delivered to an impingement tray located adjacent the food item. The air is forced through a series of apertures and onto the food item. At the same time the oven is also being heated by the radiant heat elements. This allows greater heat to be applied to specific locations on the food item. An external heat source is not required to heat the air as the air is heated by the existing radiant heat elements.

  • Publication number: 20060069782
Abstract: A method is disclosed for determining whether access to a host requested by a client session connection is permitted. After determining attributes of the client session connection, a list of hosts is selected based on the determined attributes of the client session connection. The list of hosts is then used to determine whether access to the requested host is permitted. The disclosed method can be used to allow for location-specific white lists of free URLs for a user at a wireless network hotspot that the user can access before being authenticated.

  • Publication number: 20060056317
Abstract: A method is disclosed for determining a location of a client session in a telecommunications network by comparing attributes of the client session connection to location definition information stored in a configuration file. A method of handling requests from proxy and non-proxy client connections in a telecommunications network by redirecting requests from unauthenticated proxy clients to a transparent proxy port on a captive portal such that the captive portal proxies the requests is also disclosed. The request may be directed to a service, such as a destination IP address and optional port number. A method for a proxy server to identify an edge session through an out-of-band request containing proxy metadata to a web portal for secure (HTTPS) requests is also disclosed. The edge session is identified for the web portal through a hostkey determined by the proxy server.

  • Publication number: 20060059092
Abstract: A method is disclosed for determining a whether access to host requested by a user is permitted. User identifying information is obtained using any of a variety of techniques. The method includes determining a user domain, which indicates an identity of the user's home service provider. A list of hosts is determined based on the home provider. If the requested host is in the list of hosts, then the user is allowed access to the requested host though the user is not authorized. The list of hosts may be determined by one or more attributes from an actual or implied user profile, such as a domain name.

  • Publication number: 20050081924
Abstract: A fuel reservoir having a reticulated material, generally a felt or a foam, disposed therein is provided. The addition of this reticulated material, either alone or in combination with a viscous fuel, assists the prevention of undesired flow of the fuel, the minimization of undesired leakages, and assists in orientation independence and uniform distribution of the fuel in the reservoir. The reticulated material enables the use of a viscous liquid fuel that has fuel diffusion rates and fuel utilization characteristics that approach those of neat liquid methanol. The material also helps create a greater surface area for evaporation, thus allowing a highly concentrated, vaporous fuel substance to be delivered to an associated fuel cell.

  • Patent number: 5976442
Abstract: A method and assembly (20) to form a cast concrete panel (21). The assembly (20) has end beams between which tendons (23) can pass. The beams need to be able to support tensioning of the tendons. Transversely extending form members (25) cooperate with form members (27) to enclose a space to receive concrete to form the panel (21). The tendons (23) pass through the space.

  • Patent number: 5301169
Abstract: A source of seismic waves operable within a borehole filled with liquid crises a module supported by a cable. The module includes means to generate a high voltage and to charge a bank of capacitors, and means to connect the capacitors across a pair of electrodes forming a spark gap. The electrodes are immersed in liquid at the same pressure as the borehole liquid and acoustically continuous with it, and are separated by a gap of width between 0.5 and 20 mm. If the gap is greater than about 5 mm, both the electrodes should be covered with insulation except at the positions where the spark is to be formed. The module can operate automatically at considerable depths and at high pressures.
