  • Publication number: 20170248150
Abstract: A thrust bearing assembly configured to reduce the axial displacement of a shaft includes a stationary thrust bearing, a thrust runner adjacent to the thrust bearing and a taper sleeve driver. The thrust runner includes a central passage. The taper sleeve driver includes an interior surface in contact with the shaft and an exterior surface in contact with the central passage of the thrust runner. The taper sleeve driver has a tapered exterior surface that applies a radially directed clamping force against the thrust runner as the taper sleeve driver is engaged within the central passage.

  • Patent number: 9740161
Abstract: A system for customizing settings of an electronic device includes a replaceable component having an optical member for receiving optical energy. The optical member has an optical characteristic for modifying an amount of the optical energy that leaves the optical member relative to an amount of the optical energy received by the optical member. A support is located on an outer casing of the electronic device and the replaceable component is mountable on the support. The system further includes an optical sensor including a detector positioned to receive the amount of the optical energy leaving the optical member when the replaceable component is mounted on the support. A controller determines one or more predetermined settings to be applied to the electronic device based at least upon the amount of the optical energy received by the detector.

  • Patent number: 9727420
Abstract: To generate a checkpoint for a virtual machine (VM), first, while the VM is still running, a copy-on-write (COW) disk file is created pointing to a parent disk file that the VM is using. Next, the VM is stopped, the VM's memory is marked COW, the device state of the VM is saved to memory, the VM is switched to use the COW disk file, and the VM begins running again for substantially the remainder of the checkpoint generation. Next, the device state that was stored in memory and the unmodified VM memory pages are saved to a checkpoint file. Also, a copy may be made of the parent disk file for retention as part of the checkpoint, or the original parent disk file may be retained as part of the checkpoint. If a copy of the parent disk file was made, then the COW disk file may be committed to the original parent disk file.

  • Publication number: 20170201195
Abstract: A method of operating an electromechanical actuator (EMA) system includes determining a command time remaining for an actuator to attain a commanded position and determining a stop time required to stop movement of the actuator. The command time is compared to the stop time, and an electric motor driving the actuator is decelerated if the stop time is equal to or greater than the command time. An electromechanical actuator system includes an actuator and an electric motor operably connected to the actuator, the electric motor configured to drive movement of the actuator. A controller is operably connected to the electric motor to control operation of the actuator. The controller is configured to determine a command time remaining, determine a stop time, compare the command time to the stop time, and decelerate the electric motor if the stop time is equal to or greater than the command time.

  • Publication number: 20170060384
Abstract: A system and method is provided that facilitates the selection of individually selectable three dimensional objects displayed through a display device. The system may include at least one processor that is configured to determine at least one path that traverses the objects based on at least one motion input received through an input device. The processor may also cause at least two of the objects to be selected in a group while at least one of the objects remains unselected based on an amount of a surface area of each object that was traversed by the at least one path. In addition, the processor may cause at least one operation to be carried out on the group of at least two objects that are selected and not on the at least one object that remains unselected based on whether the objects are selected, responsive to at least one operation input received through the input device.

  • Patent number: 9558070
Abstract: Embodiments maintain high availability of software application instances in a fault domain. Subordinate hosts are monitored by a master host. The subordinate hosts publish heartbeats via a network and datastores. Based at least in part on the published heartbeats, the master host determines the status of each subordinate host, distinguishing between subordinate hosts that are entirely inoperative and subordinate hosts that are operative but partitioned (e.g., unreachable via the network). The master host may restart software application instances, such as virtual machines, that are executed by inoperative subordinate hosts or that cease executing on partitioned subordinate hosts.

  • Publication number: 20160364711
Abstract: A system for verifying a price associated with an item in a retail environment includes a price tag having an optical member that includes an optical characteristic that modifies an amount of optical energy that leaves the optical member relative to an amount of optical energy received by the optical member, and a price tag holder including an optical sensor having an emitter and a detector. The emitter is positioned to emit optical energy onto the optical member and the detector is positioned to receive optical energy leaving the optical member. A computing device in operable communication with the optical sensor is operative to determine whether the price tag is accurate based upon a comparison between the amount of optical energy received by the detector and the amount of optical energy emitted by the emitter.

  • Patent number: 9489265
Abstract: A virtualization platform provides fault tolerance for a primary virtual machine by continuously transmitting checkpoint information of the primary virtual machine to a collector process, such as a backup virtual machine. When implemented on a hardware platform comprising a multi-processor that supports nested page tables, the virtualization platform leverages the nested page table support to quickly identify memory pages that have been modified between checkpoints. The backup virtual machine provides feedback information to assist the virtualization platform in identifying candidate memory pages for transmitting actual modifications to the memory pages rather than the entire memory page as part of the checkpoint information. The virtualization platform further maintains a modification history data structure to identify memory pages that can be transmitted simultaneous with the execution of the primary virtual machine rather than while the primary virtual machine has been stunned.
