  • Publication number: 20140275587
Abstract: A process for extracting palm oil includes an ultrasonic horn press and a megasonic clarifier. The ultrasonic horn press uses ultrasonic vibrations to rupture the palm fruit. After pressing and filtering the palm oil from the ultrasonic horn press, the megasonic clarifier applies megasonic vibrations to clarify the palm oil. The ultrasonic horn press and megasonic clarifier significantly reduce the use of water and minimizes pollution as compared to conventional processes.

  • Publication number: 20140264136
Abstract: A crankcase explosion relief valve with an external flame trap made from compressed and sintered porous metal powder. Should an explosion take place, the valve plate will lift, allowing the flame front and exhaust gasses to enter the device. The exhaust gasses exit the valve though a circular flame trap made of porous metal. The circular flame trap is of a ribbon shape as to increase the amount of permeable area on the component. Due to the narrow interconnected porosity, flames will not be able to propagate past the porous material, while the exhaust gasses are able to freely pass through. In another embodiment, the porous material component is in the form of a plurality of cups.

  • Publication number: 20140265949
Abstract: A system and method for preventing damage to a controller of an electric motor in a vehicle from back electromotive force, the vehicle having a battery, includes monitoring, in a circuit path, a voltage and a rotational speed generated by back-driving the motor. If power is supplied to the controller by the battery, the method includes comparing the voltage to an upper voltage threshold, comparing the rotational speed to an upper rotational speed threshold, and, if the voltage exceeds the upper voltage threshold or the rotational speed exceeds the upper rotational speed threshold, clamping the circuit path to the battery to charge the battery with the voltage. The method is performed by an electronic controller that may detect the voltage and rotational speed via controller ports, sensor transmissions, and the like.

  • Publication number: 20140262531
Abstract: Drilling mud is lifted subsea to a drilling vessel with a mud pump having an internal bladder. Applying pressurized water to one side of the bladder urges it against a quantity of the mud to impart a lifting force onto the mud. Mud flow to and from the pump is controlled by valves driven by actuators. The actuators include a piston in a cylinder, a stem that connects the piston to a valve member, and ports for supplying fluid to opposing ends of the piston for selectively reciprocating the piston. Cavities are strategically location in the cylinder for absorbing vibrational forces generated when the piston reaches an end of its stroke.

  • Publication number: 20140271268
Abstract: This disclosure proposes designs for a fan shroud that dissipates thermal energy from a motor using a single, externally-powered fan design. Examples of the proposed fan shroud allow the cooling fluid to achieve maximum velocity at a position at which the fan shroud exposes the flow to cooler ambient air that surrounds the fan shroud/motor assembly. In this configuration, the high-velocity cooling fluid draws the cooler ambient air towards the surface of the motor, which, in turn, increases the thermal capacity of the moving cooling fluid to dissipate more thermal energy from the motor.
