  • Patent number: 9975124
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided relating to evaporation of solvents from samples and to prolonging the time taken to carry out an evaporation procedure. A cap for engaging with an open end of a sample container comprises an engaging surface for engaging with the open end, and a body portion which extends over the open end. The body portion is preformed to define an opening which provides a fluid pathway between the open end of the container and the surroundings of the container, such that the cap impedes vapor flow from a sample in the container to the surroundings of the container. A holder for receiving a plurality of such caps is also provided and a method of evaporating a solvent from a sample in a sample container is described.

  • Patent number: 9892496
Abstract: Example embodiments may allow for the efficient, edge-preserving filtering, upsampling, or other processing of image data with respect to a reference image. A cost-minimization problem to generate an output image from the input array is mapped onto regularly-spaced vertices in a multidimensional vertex space. This mapping is based on an association between pixels of the reference image and the vertices, and between elements of the input array and the pixels of the reference image. The problem is them solved to determine vertex disparity values for each of the vertices. Pixels of the output image can be determined based on determined vertex disparity values for respective one or more vertices associated with each of the pixels. This fast, efficient image processing method can be used to enable edge-preserving image upsampling, image colorization, semantic segmentation of image contents, image filtering or de-noising, or other applications.

  • Publication number: 20160298401
Abstract: A choke valve assembly, system, and method can be used with a drill string in a wellbore to aid in controlling the bottom hole pressure during drilling of the wellbore. The choke valve assembly can have a primary choke and one or more supplemental chokes, where these choke valves each have a controllable range relative to the flow and pressure of drilling fluid passing through the assembly. A control unit can automatically actuate the primary choke and one or more supplemental chokes in order to both maintain the choke valves within their controllable ranges and concurrently maintain a consistent boom hole pressure in the connected wellbore.

  • Publication number: 20150197325
Abstract: A water-borne vessel for propulsion by incident waves comprises a hull having elongate bow and stern portions having a length greater than its width at its widest point; and a central portion wider than the bow and stern portions. The central portion has a first flared region at the junction with the bow portion and wider than the width of the adjacent region of the bow portion, and a second flared region at the junction with the stern portion and wider than the adjacent region of the stern portion. The central portion being between and wider than the first and second flared regions. The central portion acts to induce the hull to pitch and roll under the action of an incident wave. The vessel further comprises a foil assembly for generating movement of the vessel through the water under the action of an incident wave.
