  • Publication number: 20050092485
Abstract: The present disclosure addressed apparatus and methods for forming an annular isolator in a borehole after installation of production tubing. Annular seal means are carried in or on production tubing as it is run into a borehole. In conjunction with expansion of the tubing, the seal is deployed to form an annular isolator. An inflatable element carried on the tubing may be inflated with a fluid carried in the tubing and forced into the inflatable element during expansion of the tubing. Reactive chemicals may be carried in the tubing and injected into the annulus to react with each other and ambient fluids to increase in volume and harden into an annular seal. An elastomeric sleeve, ring or band carried on the tubing may be expanded into contact with a borehole wall and may have its radial dimension increased in conjunction with tubing expansion to form an annular isolator.

  • Publication number: 20050082061
Abstract: Improved methods and apparatus for completing a subterranean zone penetrated by a wellbore are provided. The improved methods basically comprise the steps of placing a sand control screen (e.g., screens, screened pipes, perforated liners, prepacked screens, etc.) and an outer shroud assembly mounted over the sand screen in the wellbore adjacent the zone to be completed, the shroud having perforated and blank (non-perforated) segments with the blank segments corresponding to selected intervals of the wellbore, for example problem zones such as shale streaks or isolated zones where flows are restricted by mechanical seals or packers, and injecting particulate material into the wellbore, whereby gravel packing takes place in the remaining length of the wellbore/shroud annulus without voids. The inner annulus between the shroud and screen provides an alternate flow path for the slurry to bypass the blocked intervals and continue with its placement.

  • Publication number: 20050071349
Abstract: A method of indexing data in a multidimensional database includes creating a multidimensional logical access model, creating a multidimensional data storage model in which data is located in cells that are stored and retrieved in blocks, gathering data access information derived from one or more user queries of the database, and reorganizing one or more selected cells in the multidimensional data storage model based on the data access information to reduce the time taken to access the one or more selected cells in response to a user query of the database. A computerized apparatus in communication with a multidimensional database includes a program to perform the method. A computer readable medium contains instructions to cause a computer to perform the method.

  • Publication number: 20050038799
Abstract: A method of managing cells formed from a tuple of members in a multidimensional database include treating at least one dimension in the database as a plurality of hierarchically structured members divided into at least two levels, thereby defining a validation curve as the location of an intersection of the levels. What level the cells in the database are located is evaluated. Cells contained in a lower level are managed by automatically indicating them as one of valid and invalid at data load time, and cells contained in an upper level are managed by indicating them as one of valid and invalid according to a method involving at least one of less reading from and writing to the database at data load time than if all the cells in the upper level were indicated as one of valid and invalid at data load time. A computerized database management system uses a communication interface to practice the method.

  • Publication number: 20050019217
Abstract: The invention relates to the manufacturing of effectively operating analytical equipment for serial examinations, for example, on a genetic material. The fluorescence or luminescence methods are preferred. In order to obtain a good signal-to-noise ratio, it is necessary to keep the excitation light away from the detector and to focus the emission light as much as possible onto said detector. According to the invention, a holder for the samples to be analyzed is provided with an optically active layer, said layer being reflective to the emission light and transparent to the excitation light. When, for example, the sample well of a sample holder is covered with such a layer, the emission light is reflected onto the well walls and bottom and focused on a detector. The excitation light passes through said layer, as far as it does not contribute to a molecular excitation, and is absorbed in said holder.

  • Publication number: 20050000731
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and apparatus for delivering a well treatment fluid to a productive zone of a subterranean formation at the same time that a well bore is being drilled. The method includes the steps of delivering a drill-in fluid to a drill bit drilling a well bore in, or adjacent to, the productive zone; removing drill cuttings from the well bore; and simultaneous with these steps injecting the treatment fluid into the productive zone. The apparatus includes at least three nested tubes, which form one internal flow path and two annuluses. The drill-in fluid and drill cuttings are delivered to, and removed from, the drill bit, respectively, through the internal flow path and one of the two annuluses. The treatment fluid is delivered to the subterranean formation through the remaining annulus and an expandable bladder mounted to the intermediate and outer tubes.

  • Publication number: 20040160981
Abstract: An interface connecting an hardware service provider with a media gateway software component is described. The interface facilitate exchange of data within a media gateway unit by removing the requirement that the MEGACO stack of the software component be able to communicate with a variety of gateway HSP's which may operate using different protocols. Messages between the interface and the HSP are exchanged as primitives, using the services of a delivery agent. A client-service relationship is thus set up between the HSP and MEGACO stack.

Abstract: A package manager of a media gateway component is described, which is configured to receive requests to encode or decode a message containing package descriptors. The package manager determines the type of package descriptor, and invokes the appropriate helper function which carries out the encoding or decoding operation. The package manager includes a package resolver portion that interfaces with other elements of the media gateway component, and a package helper portion that stores the helper functions. The package resolver portion includes a package list that describes the correlation between package descriptors and the corresponding helper functions.

  • Patent number: 6688271
Abstract: A switching-type intake pipe for internal combustion engines comprises an intake duct with a shorting aperture. The shorting aperture can be closed and opened by a switching flap. The switching flap is connected via a non-rigid connection with a flap lever. The connection between the flap lever and the switching flap is formed by a plate on the one side and a calotte on the other side. Thus, a tiltable connection, which is easy to manufacture and install, is produced between the switching flap and the flap lever.
