Patent number: 8708059Abstract: A mounting assembly for moveably mounting a handle of a power tool to a housing of the power tool is disclosed. The mounting assembly has a metal bar (324) mounted to a housing (290) of the power tool and a vibration damper (332) mounted to a handle (294) of the power tool and slidably mounted to the metal bar. The vibration damper includes a vibration damping member (344) for damping vibrations tending to cause the vibration damper to pivot relative to the metal bar about an axis substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the metal bar.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2009Date of Patent: April 29, 2014Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Norbert Hahn, Michael Stirm, Frantisek Harcar, Tobias Heep, Bruno Ruethers

Patent number: 8436267Abstract: A switch assembly for a power tool including a switch member and a fixing part. The switch member including a finger grip part, a retaining part for retaining the switch member on a power tool, and an opening extending at least partially through the switch member, the retaining part arranged to project laterally with respect to an axis of the opening. The fixing part is arranged to be located in the opening. The switch assembly is arranged such that when the fixing part is at a first location in the opening, the retaining part adopts a retention configuration in which it projects laterally to a predetermined extent. When the fixing part is removed or at a second location in the opening, the retaining part adopts an insertion configuration in which it does not project laterally or projects less than the predetermined extent.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2010Date of Patent: May 7, 2013Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Ernst Staas, Ralf Bernhart, Michael Stirm, Achim Buchholz

Patent number: 7789168Abstract: The disclosure describes a handle assembly for a power tool that includes attachment means for attaching the assembly to a housing of a power tool. The handle means is adapted to be held by a user of the power tool and the handle means is mounted to the attachment means and is capable of limited movement relative to the housing of the power tool. The vibration damping means acts between said housing and said handle means. The vibration damping means can also comprise elastomeric material. The attachment means can be mounted in use to the housing via a bolt on one of the attachment means and the housing passing through a respective aperture in the other of said attachment means and the housing. At least some of the elastomeric material is arranged in use between at least one said bolt and a corresponding said aperture. The handle means can be pivotable and/or slidable relative to said attachment means. The vibration damping means can comprise at least one spring (e.g., compression/spring or torsion spring).Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2008Date of Patent: September 7, 2010Assignee: Balck & Decker Inc.Inventors: Reimund Becht, Norbert Hahn, Michael Stirm, Ralf Seebauer

Patent number: 7762348Abstract: A power tool has a handle capable of limited movement mounted to its housing. An axle is rotatably connected to the housing and is movable between a first and second positions and is spring biased towards the first position. Arms are connected to and rotate with the axle. Connectors are slidably mounted within guides and are connected at one end to the arms and at the other end to the handle. Vibrations in the body of the power tool cause movement of one end of the handle, which causes movement of a connector and in turn movement of an arm. Movement of the arm causes rotation of the axle which therefore causes movement of the other arm. This in turn causes the related connector to slide within its guide and move the other end of handle. Thus, movement of one end of the handle is coupled to the other end.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2004Date of Patent: July 27, 2010Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Michael Stirm, Reimund Becht, Norbert Hahn

Patent number: 7562721Abstract: A vibration reduction apparatus for use with a hammer tool having a hammer piston is disclosed. The hammer piston is caused to reciprocate in the cylinder by rotation of a gear wheel and crank drive. A cam is mounted around the gear wheel, a counterweight surrounds the piston cylinder, and a cam follower is provided on the counterweight. The cam follower on the counterweight is urged into contact with the cam by a biasing element. The external profile of the cam is such that rotation of the gear wheel causes oscillation of the counterweight in antiphase to motion of the hammer piston to counteract vibrations produced by operation of the hammer action of the tool. A mechanism is provided to deactivate the vibration reduction apparatus when the hammer action of the tool is deactivated.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2008Date of Patent: July 21, 2009Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Michael Stirm, Heinz-Werner Faatz

Patent number: 7506693Abstract: A hammer includes a housing; a motor mounted within the housing; and a tool holder rotatably mounted on the house for holding a cutting tool. A striker is mounted in a freely slideable manner within the housing, for repetitively striking an end of a cutting tool when a cutting tool is held by the tool holder. The striker is reciprocatingly driven by the motor, when the motor is activated, via a drive mechanism. The drive mechanism comprises: a pivoting drive arm pivotally mounted within the housing at one end and which is drivingly connected to the striker; a pivotal drive mechanism connected to the pivoting drive arm and which converts a rotary movement generated by the motor into an oscillating pivotal movement of the pivoting drive arm; and the amplitude of the oscillations of the pivoting drive arm can be adjusted.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2006Date of Patent: March 24, 2009Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventor: Michael Stirm

Patent number: 7506694Abstract: A hand held motor driven electrically powered tool, in particular a rotary hammer, comprising a spindle (40) for rotatingly driving a tool or bit (68), a spindle rotary drive train (14, 5, 10) for rotatingly driving the spindle (40) and an arrangement for detecting blocking events (16, 17). Blocking events occur when the tool or bit of the tool become rotationally fixed in the material being bored in which case the rotary drive on the spindle from the motor causes the tool housing to rotate in a user's grip.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2003Date of Patent: March 24, 2009Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Michael Stirm, Norbert Hahn, Martin Lauterwald, Achim Jung, Stefan D.
