  • Publication number: 20110283813
Abstract: An apparatus and associated method for gaging the repeatability of a tool is provided by a pivot assembly. The pivot assembly has a pivot member with a tool engagement feature to selectively receive a torque from the tool at a pivot axis. The pivot assembly also has a first magnetically permeable member fixed in movement with the pivot member. The pivot assembly further has a second magnetically permeable member. An abutment member abuttingly engages the pivot member to limit its pivotal travel at a position where the first and second magnetically permeable members are magnetically coupled together, without contacting each other for being separated by a gap, by a magnetic force of attraction urging the pivot member toward the second magnetically permeable member.

  • Patent number: 8056775
Abstract: An appliance has a casing and a dispenser. The dispenser includes a dispensing member for dispensing a fluid and is movable between a first position in which at least a part of the dispensing member is located within the casing and a second position in which the dispensing member projects from the casing. The dispensing member is slideable between the first and second positions along a linear path. By providing such an arrangement, the dispenser is able to move along the shortest path between the first and second positions, reducing the space necessary in the appliance to allow the dispenser to move and allowing the drive mechanisms to be correspondingly smaller.

  • Patent number: 8060701
Abstract: When misses occur in an instruction cache, prefetching techniques are used that minimize miss rates, memory access bandwidth, and power use. One of the prefetching techniques operates when a miss occurs. A notification that a fetch address missed in an instruction cache is received. The fetch address that caused the miss is analyzed to determine an attribute of the fetch address and based on the attribute a line of instructions is prefetched. The attribute may indicate that the fetch address is a target address of a non-sequential operation. Another attribute may indicate that the fetch address is a target address of a non-sequential operation and the target address is more than X % into a cache line. A further attribute may indicate that the fetch address is an even address in the instruction cache. Such attributes may be combined to determine whether to prefetch.

  • Publication number: 20110267180
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating an audio notification file for a computing device are provided. A first audio file associated with a first mental state is selected as a first section of the audio notification file. The audio notification file enabled for storage in a memory. The audio notification file is further enabled for processing by a processing unit to control a speaker. A final state of the audio notification file is determined, the final state designated as a final section of the audio notification file, the final state associated with a second mental state. At least one intermediate section of the audio notification file is generated, between the first section and the second section, by morphing the first audio file to the final state by processing the first audio file using a digital signal processor.

  • Publication number: 20110267644
Abstract: According to aspects of the embodiments, there is provided methods and systems for configuring modules and sub-modules in a control area network (CAN) of a printer system using machine data and network protocols. The machine data includes a file that describes the board types and application types for possible modules and sub-modules of a printer system. The machine data facilitates the process of identifying modules and the process of differentiating sub-module boards from other modules. Customization of printer configurations is enhanced through plug-and-play support allowing for dynamic sub-module re-configuration for the disconnection and reconnection of boards that may form part of replaceable units. A configuration process allows non-configured boards to be placed, when the printer system is idle, properly into the network and to be associated with the proper module.

  • Patent number: 8046888
Abstract: A yoke assembly includes two support members that are connected to one another, both of which include respective first ends and second ends. The support members are spaced apart enough to fit over existing hardware on a T-adapter at a dead end. In proximity to the first end of the two support members, a connection member is connected to the support members for securing the yoke assembly to the T-adapter. The yoke assembly includes a pole connector, which is pivotably positioned in proximity to the second end of each support member, wherein the pole connector is positioned between the two support members and secured thereto by the second pin. A pole can be secured between the pole connector of the yoke assembly and the power pole, reducing stress on an insulator for removing/repairing the insulator.

  • Patent number: 8046317
Abstract: An improved system and method is provided for feature selection for text classification using subspace sampling. A text classifier generator may be provided for selecting a small set of features using subspace sampling from the corpus of training data to train a text classifier for using the small set of features for classification of texts. To select the small set of features, a subspace of features from the corpus of training data may be randomly sampled according to a probability distribution over the set of features where a probability may be assigned to each of the features that is proportional to the square of the Euclidean norms of the rows of left singular vectors of a matrix of the features representing the corpus of training texts. The small set of features may classify texts using only the relevant features among a very large number of training features.

  • Publication number: 20110246153
Abstract: Example embodiments are directed to a method of fuel bundle design, core design, or combined fuel and core design, to ensure Pellet Cladding Interaction (PCI) related fuel failures are mitigated. More specifically, example embodiments provide fuel and/or core designs that may be determined prior to operation of a nuclear power plant, or prior to production of fresh fuel bundles. The PCI optimized fuel/core designs may include some or all of seven PCI Evaluation Methods which may be incorporated into existing nuclear reactor simulation programs. PCI optimized fuel and/or core design enhances fuel reliability, allows faster beginning-of-cycle (BOC) startups and faster middle-of-cycle (MOC) sequence exchanges to maximize plant performance, and minimizes ramping restrictions, thereby maximizing nuclear power plant performance.
