  • Publication number: 20050172146
Abstract: A preset security level system and a method for utilizing the preset security level system. The system includes a plurality of security levels, each of which enables a different level of security. Each of the security levels has associated therewith security features, such that low security level features are associated with a low security level, etc. The system and method enable a system administrator to select a desired security level, which selection automatically results in the activation of the associated security features, rather than manually activate each desired security feature.

  • Publication number: 20050172151
Abstract: A system and method for controlling access to a document processing device based on roles assigned to user groups. Each group of users has certain functions for which they are authorized to use the document processing device. The device compares a username and password with correlating information stored in an authentication server. The server transmits a list of functions for which the user is authorized to employ the device. The device then compares the requested function with the authorized functions to determine if the user is allowed to utilize the document processing device for the requested function. The document processing device then performs the authorized requested function.

  • Publication number: 20040193752
Abstract: A system and method to allow users in a non-office environment to access and use data services, such as scanning, printing, and distribution of documents and data and to charge the users for such services. Multifunctional peripheral devices are provided to service location providers for use by mobile users. A multifunctional peripheral device provider sells or leases the multifunctional peripheral device, related hardware and software, parts, and supplies to service location providers. The service location provider then provides access to the multiplication peripheral device and related services to mobile users. The user is then charged for the services used. The fees are paid to the multifunctional peripheral device provider. At least a portion of these fees are paid to any dealers involved in the sale or lease of the multifunctional peripheral device and to the service location providers.

  • Publication number: 20030197895
Abstract: This invention is related to document management systems, and more particularly, to a document management system for automating selected operations to be performed on at least one document in a data storage area. The invention is directed to a method and system for automatically performing preselected operations on electronic documents. The method and system comprising the steps of and means adapted for receiving at least one electronic document into a data storage area accessible by a plurality of users; associating at least one preselected operation with the data storage area, such that such preselected operation is performed automatically by any document received into the data storage area; and performing the preselected operation on each electronic document received into the data storage area.

  • Publication number: 20030184795
Abstract: A system and method is provided for providing a file based job request queue for digital imaging devices. Job requests are stored in a section of file-based queue having a plurality of sections, wherein each section corresponds to a function of a multi-function digital image device. A key is assigned to each job request such that each job request in a section has a different key. Values are then computed for each job request based on the assigned job request key. The computed values are then stored such that they are searchable to determine the current state of the queue.

  • Publication number: 20030184783
Abstract: An extensible device-independent and scalable modular software layer in a peripheral device. The modular software layer facilitates communication between components of the peripheral device. A hardware abstraction layer (HAL) of the peripheral device is configured in accordance with interface parameters of the modular software layer such that hardware characteristics of the peripheral device are abstracted therefrom and passed to the modular software layer.

  • Patent number: 6597973
Abstract: A test procedure for inspecting a vehicle adapted to transport commodities. This procedure includes the steps of inspecting a lining disposed in a tank of a tank car and comparing crack, blister, and corrosion conditions on the liner with predetermined models. These predetermined models convey a discrete range of severity levels of cracks, blisters, and corrosion conditions and permit determination of a severity level for the compared condition(s). The severity level for the condition is then documented. Standardization of inspection findings facilitates trending analysis of each tank car or vessel lining to determine when requalification of a given lining should be carried out, thus improving the safety with which commodities (including regulated hazardous materials) are shipped and stored.

  • Publication number: 20030017805
Abstract: The present invention enables users to interface with a wide range of computing and telecommunication devices seamlessly without a cable connecting the devices. As such, the present invention allows for the replacement of the many proprietary cables that connect one device to another with one universal short-range radio link. The typical BLUETOOTH® system consist of four basic components: a radio (RF section) that receives and transmits data and voice; a baseband or link control unit that processes the transmitted or received data; link management software that manages the transmission; and supporting application software. Electronic devices incorporating BLUETOOTH® technology will replace RS-232, parallel, Universal Serial Bus (USB), and other types of cables with a single, standard wireless connection.

  • Patent number: 5363890
Abstract: A device which prevents spillage when a water bottle is inverted for installation onto a water dispenser. The device establishes the flow of water from the water bottle into the water dispenser after a predetermined time delay from when the bottle is inverted. The device is a membrane closure which initially provides a water tight seal on the mouth of the water bottle, but which opens up to allow water to flow from the bottle after a predictable time delay. Thus, the user can slowly and carefully invert the water bottle and place it in the correct position. Three embodiments are presented: 1) a membrane seal which is folded multiple times to create an initially water tight seal, which, when the water bottle is inverted, slowly unfolds due to the hydrostatic pressure, thereby opening the seal and allowing the water to flow; 2) a membrane seal of a moisture sensitive material which is coated with a water impermeable material and which is scored in a desired rupture pattern.
