  • Publication number: 20210344078
Abstract: A lock mechanism for a compartment has been developed. The lock mechanism includes a deformable arm affixed to a housing of the compartment and positioned within the compartment. The deformable arm includes a first end configured to be biased into a first position to engage a latch of a door of the compartment to prevent the latch from opening, and a receiving surface configured to receive an external force to move the deformable arm to a second position that disengages the first end from the latch to enable opening of the latch while the external force is applied to the receiving surface.

  • Patent number: 8894933
Abstract: A portable handheld medical diagnostic device includes a front housing and a rear housing opposite the front housing. The front housing and the rear housing form a protective enclosure. A main circuit board is located in the protective enclosure. The main circuit board includes a controller facilitating a physiologic measurement. A display device is connected to the main circuit board that displays information related to the physiologic measurement. A frame is located in the protective enclosure that carries the display device and locates the display device adjacent the front housing such that the display device can be viewed from outside the protective enclosure. The frame includes a strip port formed integrally therewith that is accessible from outside the protective enclosure.

  • Patent number: 8761941
Abstract: A medical device and a method for displaying medical data by the medical device are disclosed. In one aspect of the disclosure, a method for displaying medical data by a medical device having a display device and one or more processors is disclosed. The method includes monitoring a condition of the display device and determining, at the medical device, whether the display device is in a failure state based on the monitoring, the failure state being indicative of a malfunction of the display device. When the display device is a failure state, the method includes commanding a slave device to display the medical data and providing the medical data from the medical device to the slave device for display by the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 8658108
Abstract: A limited-use blood glucose meter includes a printed circuit board assembly that includes a power source, a strip port, a strip reading device, a controller device, a bi-stable display, and a display controller. The strip reading measures a reaction between a blood sample present on the blood glucose test strip and the blood glucose reagent, generates a blood glucose signal, and calculates a blood glucose level. The controller device receives the blood glucose level from the strip reading device. The controller device provides display instructions to the display controller and the display controller provides drive voltages to the bi-stable segments such that the bi-stable segments persistently display the most-recent blood glucose level. The strip reading device performs a predetermined number of blood glucose tests and calculates a blood glucose level only for blood glucose strips associated with the disposable blood glucose meter.

  • Patent number: 8636661
Abstract: An embeddable module for measuring a blood glucose level may be embedded in an external host and may comprise a host interface, a microcontroller, an ASIC, a temperature measuring element, and a measurement strip port. The host interface may permit electrical communication between the host and the microcontroller. The microcontroller and ASIC may communicate with each other and may work together to measure the blood glucose level of a blood sample. The measurement strip port may receive a removable measurement strip having the blood sample. The ASIC may communicate with the measurement strip port such that the ASIC may receive signals from the measurement strip port related to the blood glucose level of the blood sample. The temperature measuring element may be in electrical communication with the microcontroller and may measure the temperature of the module and transmit signals to the microcontroller related to the temperature of the module.

  • Patent number: 8436844
Abstract: A control circuit and method for controlling a bi-stable display having bi-stable segments each capable of transitioning between an on state and an off state via application of a voltage are disclosed. The voltage is provided to a display driver from a charge pump, and supplied to individual ones of the bi-stable segments via outputs from the display driver in accordance with display instructions provided by a system controller. Both a bi-stable segment voltage level of at least one of the outputs of the display driver and a charge pump voltage level of the voltage are detected and compared to a valid bi-stable segment voltage level and a valid charge pump voltage level, respectively. A malfunction signal may be provided to the system controller if either of the detected voltage levels is not valid. The control circuit is useful in an electronic device such as, for example, a blood glucose measuring device.

  • Patent number: 8226890
Abstract: The present invention provides an innovative means for efficient and secure component assembly and for ensuring secure electrical connections in a small diagnostics device where available space for fasteners is limited. In one embodiment, principles of leverage are employed to produce a force at a location where space is available. The force is transferred to a different location of the assembly where it is used to maintain secure connections between components.
