  • Publication number: 20020068619
Abstract: A personal communication device is folded for compact portability, yet allows viewing of certain essential data such as caller phone number, signal sensitivity, cell boundaries, battery life and messages, without unfolding the phone as well as accessing important function keys. This is made possible by arranging a part of the display section to be in view even when the phone is folded for carrying. When the ear piece of the phone is opened for telephoning, the overall length of the phone is such that the mouth section is opposite to the user's mouth. In the basic design the receiver is located in the movable ear piece so that its length can be kept short. The keyboard section can be located on any surface of the main body of the phone, and an example shows a side mounted keyboard section, thus allowing to operate the phone without unfolding the phone.

  • Patent number: 5832082
Abstract: A portable telephone set holder includes a portable telephone set, a housing, and a catch latch. The portable telephone set has a first engaging portion formed on one end face, and a grip portion formed at least one remaining end face. The housing has a storing portion in which a second engaging portion to be engaged with the first engaging portion is formed and the portable telephone set is stored. The catch latch holds the grip portion to fix and hold the portable telephone set in the storing portion when the portable telephone set placed on the storing portion is depressed while the first and second engaging portions are engaged with each other. The catch latch unlocks the grip portion to release the portable telephone set from the storing portion when the portable telephone set fixed and held in the storing portion is depressed.

  • Patent number: 5771466
Abstract: A portable radio transceiver of the invention includes an antenna base portion, a coil spring for producing a predetermined repulsive force between an antenna base portion and a casing and a hook portion for housing the antenna base portion within a rear surface of the casing when the coil spring is compressed. One end portion of the antenna base portion is constituted with a pin shaped shaft fixedly implanted in the casing and a rotary base portion in the form of a hollow cylinder having an elliptic cross section. The rotary base portion which is movable along an axis of the hollow portion thereof and and rotatable therein is biased by the coil spring in a direction away from the casing. When a communication is to be done, the antenna is rotated to protrude it in a direction away from a user to thereby reduce influence of the user on the antenna.

  • Patent number: 5689824
Abstract: A folding portable wireless apparatus of the invention is provided with locking mechanisms provided on the both side faces of an upper and a lower case which are so configured as to be capable of opening and closing. The locking mechanisms have open levers which are provided on the both side faces of either the upper or the lower case and can be manually operated. To the both side faces of the other case are provided engaging portions which interlock with the open levers to lock the both cases, and locking impetus giving members for giving an impetus to the open levers are also provided in such a direction that the locked state established between the open levers and the engaging portions is maintained. In this structure, since the opening operation is carried out by both a thumb and an index fingers of a hand holding the portable wireless apparatus, the easy and rapid opening operation is possible no matter which hand may being holding the wireless apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5668867
Abstract: A foldable portable telephone is made up of an upper casing having a receiver portion, and a lower casing having a transmitter portion. The lower casing is rotatably connected to the upper casing by a hinge. When the lower casing is rotated away from the upper casing, the receiver portion is moved to protrude from the upper casing. At this instant, the telephone is brought into an off-hook state. When the lower casing is rotated onto the upper casing, the receiver portion is retracted into the upper casing while the telephone is brought into an on-hook state. The receiver portion, when protruded from the upper casing, increases the distance between an antenna and the user's ear. In this condition, the antenna is not influenced by the user's body and, therefore, maintains a sufficient antenna gain.
