  • Publication number: 20120056910
Abstract: The techniques of this disclosure are applicable to backlight display devices. For such devices, the backlight may have different backlight intensity settings in order to promote power conservation. The techniques of this disclosure may apply different adjustments to the display, depending on the backlight intensity setting. In one example, different color correction matrices may be applied for different backlight settings in order to achieve desirable adjustments in the device at the different backlight settings. The adjustments described herein may address chrominance shifts due to different backlight settings as well as cross-talk between color channels. The techniques may also be applicable to organic light emitting diode (OLED) displays that have different luminance settings, and some described techniques may be applicable to displays that have static or fixed luminance output.

  • Patent number: 8127208
Abstract: To derive a Hamming code to manage data errors a set of at least four parity bit positions is selected for parity bits which will protect a set of data bits (where each data bit has a data bit position in the data bit set). A syndrome is determined for each data bit position. This involves selecting a unique sub-set of at least three parity bit positions. The unique sub-set shares at least one parity bit position with at least one other unique sub-set of at least three parity bit positions. A parity bit value may then be calculated for each parity bit position based on the determined syndromes. The header of a packet may be provided with a word which defines the length of the packet and an error management code generated utilizing this word so that errors in the word may be detected and, possibly, corrected.

  • Publication number: 20120019693
Abstract: A technique for processing at least one bad pixel occurring in an image sensing system is provided. Dynamic bad pixel detection is performed on a plurality of streaming pixels taking from at least one controlled image and value and coordinate information for each bad pixel is subsequently stored as stored bad pixel information. Thereafter, static bad pixel correction may be performed based on the stored bad pixel information. The stored bad pixel information may be verified based on histogram analysis performed on the plurality of streaming pixels. The technique for processing bad pixels in accordance with the present invention may be embodied in suitable circuitry or, more broadly, within devices incorporating image sensing systems.

  • Patent number: 8031093
Abstract: An n bit D/A decoder is formed using P-type and N-type transistor switches, instead of convention CMOS switches. Each P-type and N-type switch may be formed of fewer transistors than those used to form a CMOS switch, thereby reducing the overall transistor count. The decoder may be used to decode digital values to non-linear GAMMA corrected analog output voltages.

  • Patent number: 7937519
Abstract: A buffer is associated with each of a plurality of data lanes of a multi-lane serial data bus. Data words are timed through the buffers of active ones of the data lanes. Words timed through buffers of active data lanes are merged onto a parallel bus such that data words from each of the active data lanes are merged onto the parallel bus in a pre-defined repeating sequence of data lanes. This approach allows other, non-active, data lanes to remain in a power conservation state.

  • Patent number: 7929648
Abstract: An error detection apparatus and method compares a first hardwired value such as a first clock threshold, and a second hardwired value such as a second clock threshold, and generates an indication that there is an error in a clock signal based on a comparison of the first hardwired value and the second hardwired value to the clock signal. If an error is detected, the error detection apparatus will, for example, interrupt clock recovery logic to take proper action for recovery of a clock generation circuit that generated the clock signal. The clock signal may be generated based on, for example, a reference clock signal that may be provided by an external source clock, or any other suitable source.

  • Patent number: 7895380
Abstract: In a device, such as a cell phone, memory resource sharing is enabled between components, such as integrated circuits, each of which has memory resources. This may be accomplished by providing an interconnect between the components and constructing transaction units which are sent over the interconnect to initiate memory access operations. The approach may also be used to allow for a degree of communication between device components.

  • Patent number: 7876970
Abstract: At least one illuminant white point estimate is determined in a color space having radially defined saturation based on a reference image. A chromatic adaptation correction vector (CACV) is determined based on the at least one illuminant white point estimate. Corrected pixels are obtained by applying the CACV (preferably in a cone response color space using a correction matrix based on the CACV) to uncorrected image pixels corresponding to a target image, which may comprise the reference image or another image.

  • Publication number: 20100271503
Abstract: A method includes determining white balance calibration color ratios for a plurality of illumination sources by using a representative camera of a given type to establish a set of ratios. Because the ratios are fixed for the given camera type, a plurality of cameras of the type may store the fixed ratios, and calibrate by measuring only the reference illumination source. Later white balancing is achieved by using the measured reference illumination source color ratios and the stored fixed ratios as scaling factors to map from the reference illumination source to any other illumination source. The method includes an off-line advance calibration procedure to obtain the fixed ratios, an on-line per camera calibration procedure to obtain color ratios for the reference source, and subsequent white balancing which uses the fixed ratios/scaling factors and the reference source color ratios.

  • Patent number: 7822277
Abstract: A method and apparatus for communicating compressed video information includes storing video information compressed based on a first compression method, such as a method with a high compression ratio, and transcoding the compressed video information to produce corresponding recompressed video information that is based on a second compression method, with a lower compression ratio such as standard JPEG compression or other suitable compression. The method and apparatus, if desired, may include sending the recompressed video information for a destination apparatus which may then suitably decompress the video information using a standard decompression technique. For example, storing the compressed image in a high compressed format, for example, in a piecewise basis may be done online while the camera, for example, is in use so that the image is properly captured and then, transcoding the compressed image to a different level of compression while the camera is offline.

  • Patent number: 7770040
Abstract: To provide reduced power consumption of a co-processor, a low power dedicated memory is provided. During a low power state, a processing component of the co-processor is instructed to use the low power dedicated memory and a first memory device, normally used by the processing component, is thereafter operated in a reduced power mode for the duration of the low power state. Preferably, the low power dedicated memory has a storage capacity that is significantly less than the storage capacity of the first memory. When an operating state other than the low power state is detected, normal power consumption by the first memory is resumed and the co-processor is directed to use the first memory once again. In this manner, the present invention allows co-processors, and preferably graphics co-processors, to operate in a beneficial low power mode thereby reducing power consumption.

  • Publication number: 20100123810
Abstract: Circuitry, apparatus and methods provide flicker detection and improved image generation for digital cameras that employ image sensors. In one example, circuitry and methods are operative to compare a first captured frame with a second captured frame that may be, for example, sequential and consecutive or non-consecutive if desired, to determine misalignment of scene content between the frames. A realigned second frame is produced by realigning the second frame with the first frame if the frames are determined to be misaligned. Luminance data from the realigned second frame and luminance data from the pixels of the first frame are used to determine if an undesired flicker condition exists. If an undesired flicker condition is detected, exposure time control information is generated for output to the imaging sensor that captured the frame, to reduce flicker. This operation may be done, for example, during a preview mode for a digital camera, or may be performed at any other suitable time.
