  • Publication number: 20050014185
Abstract: A method and apparatus designed for nucleic acid hybridization employs a hydrogen bond denaturation area with a higher temperature and a lower temperature nucleic acid hybridization area that is immobilized with nucleic acid probes. Nucleic acid-containing samples are introduced into the hydrogen bond denaturation area for heating curled nucleic acids in samples so that they become linear and are guided into the nucleic acid hybridization area. In this area, the nucleic acid hybridization rate can be multiplied by increasing the kinetic energy by the repeated flow of driven fluid. The nucleic acid hybridization apparatus provided by the invention contains a hydrogen bond denaturation area, a nucleic acid hybridization area, a two-way driving apparatus, and a temperature control element.

  • Publication number: 20040121828
Abstract: An antenna arrangement for dual mode radio devices such as WCDMA/GSM or Bluetooth radio devices. The arrangement contains two antennas close to each other, where a shorting switch is used at an open end of one antenna to increase isolation by effectively converting the one antenna from a quarter wave length antenna to a half wave length antenna when not needed in order to improve the efficiency of the other antenna. The shorting switch is typically a MEMS switch and the antennas are typically PIFA antennas. A radio device containing the arrangement has also been disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6263256
Abstract: In an embroidery data display apparatus, four pattern names “A01”, “A05”, “A10” and “A17”, for example, from which an embroidery pattern actually used for embroidering may be selected, are designated from a plurality of pattern names displayed on a CRT display, and pattern display data for the designated pattern names are generated in a time-sharing manner with background processing that is effected for minute time intervals &agr; parallel with main processing. The pattern display data thus generated are successively displayed on a display upon completion of each set of data. When it is confirmed that the displayed pattern is the embroidery pattern to be actually used for embroidering, a stop key provided in a keyboard is operated to generate a stop command, which is accepted by the main processing even during generation of pattern display data, so that the pattern display data generating operations can be immediately terminated.

  • Patent number: 6148613
Abstract: A compact reversing flow catalytic converter for reducing noxious substances in exhaust gases produced by internal combustion engines is described. The catalytic converter includes a valve unit which reversibly directs exhaust gases through a container filled with catalytic material. The container defines a U-shaped gas passage which communicates with two ports at a top of the container. The valve unit is mounted to the top of the container and includes an intake and an exhaust cavity. The valve unit includes a valve disk having two openings therethrough and rotates around a perpendicular central axis between a first and second position. In each position, each opening communicates only with one of the cavities and one of the ports. In the first position, the exhaust gases enter the exhaust cavity from an exhaust pipe and pass through one of the openings into the gas passage where they contact the catalytic material as they travel through the U-shaped gas passage and enter the exhaust cavity.

  • Patent number: 5927220
Abstract: An embroidery data process using a computer to extract stitch points from embroidery data and display the contours of an embroidery pattern to the user based on those stitch points. After the stitch points are extracted from the sewing data, an orthogonal coordinate system is defined by setting the first stitch point as the origin and the line formed from the first to the second stitch points as the X-axis. Then, using the first stitch point as the origin, the X components of the second and third stitch points are compared. If the X component of the second point is larger than that of the third, the second stitch point is determined to be a contour point. By continuing this process, all the contour points can be accurately extracted from the sewing data and displayed for the user. Also, to collect only the contour points, half stitch needle locations are detected.
