    Abstract: A system for high dynamic range (HDR) imaging and methods for making and using same is disclosed. An HDR module in a camera initializes a set of lookup tables (LUTs) in YUV color space based on exposure configurations of a set of images taken as HDR imaging. The HDR module calculates weights of luminance Y components of the set of images in YUV color space. Based on the calculated weights, the HDR module blends the Y component of the set of images to generate blended Y components. The HDR module combines the blended Y components with corresponding UV components to generate a single image in YUV space. Thereby, the HDR module advantageously combines a set of images into a blended HDR image with only blending the Y component of the set of images.

Backup copies of the multimedia container information associated with given multimedia content data are stored, along with the multimedia content data, on an external storage detachably coupled to a recording device. A primary copy of the multimedia container information is stored on an internal storage associated with the recording device. The recording of the primary container information and the content data is performed in real-time or nearly real-time as the content data is captured by the recording device. In the case of an abnormal event (e.g., battery failure, disconnect of storage media), container information may be selected from the primary copy or the backup copies of the container information, thereby increasing the likelihood that the container file can be successfully repaired or regenerated.

    Abstract: Systems for automatic white balancing (AWB) of a digital image and methods for making and using same. In response to a white balancing trigger, the relative positions of an image sensor and a reference region for white balancing are automatically adjusted such that the image sensor can acquire an image of the reference region. A white balance parameter reflecting the color temperature of the illuminating source is then computed and used to perform white balancing so as to remove color casts. The position of the reference region can be pre-recorded or scanned-for by the image sensor. The reference region can be rendered mobile so that it can be positioned within the image sensor's field-of-vision. The imaging systems can further include a gimbal that enables the image sensor to rotate about one or more axes. The present systems and methods are suitable for use, for example, by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

    Abstract: A system for adapting various writing speeds of storage devices and methods for making and using same are provided. A recording device maintains a data buffer with a buffer size. Data recorded by the recording device with a selected recording bitrate is stored into the data buffer of the recording device. The recorded data is written from the data buffer into a selected storage device that is attached onto the recording device. An amount of recorded data stored in the data buffer is compared with two or more sets of thresholds, and the recording bitrate of the recording device can be adjusted, as needed, in response to the results of the comparison. By adjusting the recording bitrate, the recording device advantageously can accommodate storage devices with various speeds while maintaining the quality of the recorded data and maximizing the capacity of the storage device.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for generating a high dynamic range image (HDRI). After acquiring a first illuminance diagram, a base layer and detail layers are extracted from the first illuminance diagram, where the base layer contains low frequency information of the first illuminance diagram and the detail layers contain high frequency information of the first illuminance diagram. The dynamic range of the base layer is then compressed while dynamic ranges of the detail layers remain uncompressed. Further, a second illuminance diagram is generated from the first illuminance diagram by fusing the base layer with the compressed dynamic range and the detail layers, the second illuminance diagram is mapped onto a plurality of preset color channels; and the images on the plurality of preset color channels are fused into the HDRI. Therefore, the detail information in the original illuminance diagram can be preserved.
