    Abstract: An imaging system for adaptively generating panoramic images and methods for manufacturing and using same are provided. The system includes an imaging device configured to capture digital images at a plurality of image capture positions. The system further includes a processor configured to identify an overlapping portion of first and second images captured at respective first and second image capture positions, determine a stitching position quality measure for a plurality of stitching positions in the overlapping portion of the first and second images, and select a stitching position based on the determined stitching position quality measures of the plurality of stitching positions of the first and second images. The processor is also configured to stitch the first and second images together at the selected stitching position to generate a panoramic image and determine a third image capture position based on the stitching position quality measure.

    Abstract: A method of adaptive demosaicing of a mosaiced image includes receiving the mosaiced image having a mosaic pattern with a first color, a second color, and a third color, obtaining a noise level index for the mosaiced image, determining whether the noise level index is greater than a threshold value, and, in response to the noise level index being greater than the threshold value, performing an adaptive demosaicing on the mosaiced image to generate an adaptively demosaiced image. The adaptive demosaicing includes interpolating values of a portion of unknown pixels of the first color in a horizontal or vertical direction, interpolating values of a portion of unknown pixels of the second color in a horizontal or vertical direction, and interpolating values of a portion of unknown pixels of the third color in a horizontal or vertical direction.

    Abstract: A system for adapting various writing speeds of storage devices and methods for making and using same are provided. A recording device maintains a data buffer with a buffer size. Data recorded by the recording device with a selected recording bitrate is stored into the data buffer of the recording device. The recorded data is written from the data buffer into a selected storage device that is attached onto the recording device. An amount of recorded data stored in the data buffer is compared with two or more sets of thresholds, and the recording bitrate of the recording device can be adjusted, as needed, in response to the results of the comparison. By adjusting the recording bitrate, the recording device advantageously can accommodate storage devices with various speeds while maintaining the quality of the recorded data and maximizing the capacity of the storage device.

The image demosaicing system includes a lens, a mosaicing filter, an image sensor array and a processing module. The processing module is configured to perform adaptive demosaicing on a mosaiced image that was generated from sensed light that passed through the lens and mosaicing filter. The method of image demosaicing comprises interpolating values of unknown red, green and blue pixels in a horizontal and vertical direction and adaptively selecting one of the interpolation results for each pixel. The disclosed system and method provide for high quality image processing while operating at various Signal to Noise Ratios (SNRs) and require minimal computational time and overhead.

    Abstract: A novel imaging system is provided for capturing imaging data. According to the disclosed embodiments, the imaging system comprises one or more cameras configured to capture the same scene within each camera's field of view. The imaging system also includes a plurality of bandpass filters that may be positioned in front of one or more cameras. Each bandpass filter may allow the transmission of incident electromagnetic signals between different pairs of first and second wavelengths. Accordingly, when the bandpass filters are positioned in front of the one or more cameras, each camera captures a different spectral image, i.e., containing only certain frequency components of the same scene being imaged in the cameras. The bandpass filters may be selectively aligned with one or more cameras by rotating and/or translating the filters relative to the cameras' positions in the imaging system.
