  • Patent number: 7478946
Abstract: A cassette of tympanic thermometer probe covers includes a frame and probe covers releasably attached to the frame. The probe covers can be individually attached over a probe of a tympanic thermometer to protect the probe from contamination. The probe covers are constructed to releasably secure themselves to the probe. The force required to secure the probe covers to the frame is less that the force which is required to detach the probe covers from the frame so that the probe cover is held by the frame while being attached to the thermometer probe. The probe cover is connected to the frame by frangible connections that are arranged to inhibit pivoting of the probe cover when being attached to the thermometer probe. A method of securing a probe cover to a probe of a tympanic thermometer is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7252991
Abstract: The invention provides a novel retroviral packaging system, in which retroviral packaging plasmids and packagable vector transcripts are produced from high expression plasmids after stable or transient transfection in mammalian cells. High titers of recombinant retrovirus are produced in these transfected mammalian cells and can then transduce a mammalian target cell by cocultivation or supernatant infection. The methods of the invention include the use of the novel retroviral packaging plasmids and vectors to transduce primary human cells, including T cells and human hematopoietic stem cells, with foreign genes by cocultivation or supernatant infection at high efficiencies. The invention is useful for the rapid production of high titer viral supernatants, and to transduce with high efficiency cells that are refractory to transduction by conventional means.

  • Patent number: 7073498
Abstract: A combination cone, collection rim and steamer tray placeable on a wide variety of conventional cooking pots and pans. The device permits a user to selectively prevent heat and/or moisture from escaping a cooking pot. The collection rim contains a reservoir that collects moisture and prevents it from returning to a cooking pot while the cone simultaneously retains most of the heat escaping from the pot upon which the cone and collection rim rests. The steamer tray permits a user to steam cook foods in combination with the cone which collects and returns moisture to a pot on which the cone and steamer tray rests.

  • Publication number: 20050193182
Abstract: An apparatus and method of preventing unauthorized access to computer data. The apparatus is installed in a computer system between the main board and an associated data storage device, for example a hard drive. Read/write commands from the motherboard to the hard drive are intercepted and scrutinized by a filter means of the apparatus. If the pre-determined level of data access of the user issuing the command is insufficient to permit the type of access that is being sought (eg: write access is sought, but the user only has permission for read access on that particular hard drive partition), then the command is blocked. An identity means, for example an RFID, may also be included that identifies an authorized user and corresponding level of data access. The apparatus and method may be employed as a stand-alone solution or as part of a computer network.

  • Patent number: 6880835
Abstract: A combination hand truck, dolly and step ladder device includes a hand truck frame and a step ladder frame that are pivotally attached to one another and can be fixed at selective angles with respect to each other to form a hand truck, a dolly and a step ladder. In a step ladder configuration, the top step of a step assembly is secured to a cross member of the hand truck frame so as to lock the hand truck frame and the step ladder frame into a substantially fixed relationship to one another. In a dolly configuration, the hand truck frame becomes the handle for the dolly, and is held in place by a support bar that pivotally attaches to the hand truck frame and secures to the step ladder frame.
