  • Patent number: 7903287
Abstract: An image forming apparatus has a calibration mode in which a calibration image is formed on a print medium to correct image forming conditions. The image forming apparatus detects print medium information to determine, on the basis of the print medium information, whether the print medium is a sheet recommended as a print medium for use in the calibration mode. The image forming apparatus sets calibration conditions corresponding to the determined recommended sheet. The image forming apparatus corrects the image forming conditions on the basis of the set calibration conditions.

  • Patent number: 7878495
Abstract: Timing information for use to determine the timing to discharge a sheet from an image forming apparatus is transmitted. The timing information is relayed, by being edited repeatedly, from a first sheet processing apparatus connected directly with the image forming apparatus to a second sheet processing apparatus which actually processes the sheet. The timing information is edited on each sheet processing apparatus by considering, for example, transit time of the sheet, processing time of the sheet, preparation time for the sheet to get ready to be processed, and the like. The second sheet processing apparatus transmits the timing information to the image forming apparatus. The image forming apparatus determines the discharge timing of the sheet based on the received timing information and discharges the sheet with the determined discharge timing.

  • Patent number: 7839526
Abstract: A printing system includes printing apparatuses connected to a network. A control apparatus of the printing system may send a print job to each printing apparatus and instruct each printing apparatus to execute the print job. When a first printing apparatus is instructed to execute the print job, the control apparatus makes a substitute printing reservation. The substitute printing reservation is for a second printing apparatus to execute the print job instead of the first printing apparatus. The second printing apparatus is set to a waiting state in which the second printing apparatus waits to execute the print job instead of the first printing apparatus.

  • Patent number: 7823867
Abstract: A sheet conveying apparatus includes first and second conveying paths. The first conveying path is configured to receive a sheet from a device connected at an upstream side in a sheet conveying direction so as to transfer the sheet to a device connected at a downstream side in the sheet conveying direction. The second conveying path intersects with the first conveying path. A controller switches between a first operation mode and a second operation mode. In the first operation mode, the sheet is conveyed along the first conveying path, and in the second operation mode, the sheet is conveyed along the second conveying path. The controller controls a sheet conveying operation in the first operation mode or the second operation mode in accordance with the state of the sheet on the second conveying path.

  • Publication number: 20090311023
Abstract: A bookbinding apparatus which makes it possible to shorten a time period required to heat an adhesive when the power of the bookbinding apparatus is turned on again. A glue preparation section heats glue. A glue applying section applies the heated glue to a recording sheet bundle. A CPU of the bookbinding apparatus determines at the power-on of the apparatus whether or not there is a recording sheet bundle to which glue is to be applied within the apparatus. When there is no such recording sheet bundle, the glue applying section applies glue to a recording sheet bundle after the temperature of the glue has reached a first target temperature, whereas when there is such a recording sheet bundle, the glue applying section applies the glue to the recording sheet bundle after the glue temperature has reached a second target temperature lower than the first target temperature.
