  • Publication number: 20180220478
Abstract: Devices and methods of using a reduced complexity network protocol are generally described. An evolved NodeB (eNB) transmits an Attach Request to a mobility management entity (MME), which transmits a Create Session Request for transmission of non-IP (NIP) data of user equipment (UE) to a Packet Data Network (P-GW). The P-GW in response transmits a Create Session Response, with the UE ID if originating at the P-GW and free from a UE IP address and an Up Link Traffic Flow Template, to the MME, which transmits an Attach Accept to the eNB and UE. A UE identifier (UE ID) either originates at the UE and is transmitted in the Attach Request, or is generated by the eNB, MME or P-GW. The NIP data has a tunneling NIP data packet with a NIP header with the UE ID and a NIP user data packet free from TCP/IP encapsulation and header compression.

  • Publication number: 20180184314
Abstract: Methods and devices are provided to send new or modified measurement requests and measurement reports during an announcement transmission interval (ATI). The measurement requests and measurement reports are used to determine the feasibility of spatial sharing in wireless local area networks (WLANs). New or modified measurement requests and measurement reports eliminate fields in the measurement request elements and measurement configuration information to lower or limit the overhead used in the ATI. These changes ensure the ATI does not become too long in duration and allows sharing measurement data during the ATI, even in dense WLAN environments.

  • Publication number: 20180184451
Abstract: In wireless communication networks in which pairs of STAs establish direct point-to-point links with each other, RTS-CTS training may be used to make sure that they don't interfere with other such pairs that communicate simultaneously during contention based access periods (CBAP). In some embodiments, two different types of CBAP are described for this. The PCP/AP may separately designate each type of CBAP for those devices using RTS-CTS training and those not using such training. In other embodiments, specific formats and fields are presented for communications involving these features.

  • Patent number: 9894553
Abstract: Embodiments of an Evolved Node-B (eNB) to support Mission-Critical Machine Type Communication (MC-MTC) User Equipments (UEs) are disclosed herein. During a transmission notification (TN) monitoring period, the eNB may monitor for TN signals from MC-MTC UEs. When a presence of TN signals is detected, the eNB may refrain from allocation of dedicated MC-MTC traffic resources to other UEs for transmission during a traffic period. In response to a detection of an absence of TN signals from the first group of MC-MTC UEs during the TN monitoring period, the eNB may allocate the dedicated MC-MTC traffic resources to the other UEs for transmission during the traffic period. Starting times of the traffic period and the TN monitoring period may be spaced apart by a predetermined time difference. In some embodiments, the predetermined time difference for MC-MTC UEs may be not greater than 10 milliseconds.

  • Patent number: 9801225
Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate generally to a communication between a user equipment (“UE”) and a plurality of evolved Node Bs (“eNBs”). A UE may be adapted to operate in a dual connectivity mode on respective wireless cells provided by first and second eNBs. The UE may communicate with a first eNB in a first frequency band. The UE may communicate with a second eNB in a second frequency band. The first eNB may detect that the second frequency band is unavailable. Based on this detection, the first eNB may notify the UE that communication in the second frequency band is no longer available. In response, the UE may control a radio to cease communication in the second frequency band. Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.

  • Patent number: 9769788
Abstract: Devices and methods of paging user equipment (UE) are generally described. An evolved Node-B (eNB) may transmit legacy and extended coverage paging messages having different Paging Radio Network Temporary Identifiers (P-RNTIs) to UEs. Each extended coverage paging message may contain the same information, which coverage constrained UEs may combine to achieve a predetermined link budget and subsequently decode. The coverage constrained UEs may ignore legacy paging messages prior to decoding the legacy paging messages. The extended coverage paging messages may be transmitted in non-legacy paging occasions that may span multiple paging cycles. Each paging cycle may contain 0, 1 or multiple extended coverage paging occasions. The UE may be provided the physical resource blocks (PRBs) used for the extended coverage paging message through a system information message. The PRBs may be assigned as a fixed or semi-statically assigned set of PRBs or a dynamically assigned set of PRBs.
