  • Patent number: 9635655
Abstract: Technology for efficiently splitting a bearer at the packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer for uplink (UL) data transfers in wireless networks where dual connectivity is available is disclosed. A user equipment (UE) can send buffer status reports (BSRs) to a master evolved node B (MeNB) and a secondary evolved node B (SeNB). The BSRs can be formatted such that the amount of data in a radio link control (RLC) buffer at the UE and the amount of data in a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) buffer at the UE are contained in different fields. The BSRs can also contain redundancy indicator (RI) values specifying a redundancy level between the PDCP buffer amounts included in the BSRS. The MeNB and the SeNB may then coordinate, via an X2 interface, an amount of uplink (UL) resources to allocate to the UE.

  • Publication number: 20170055309
Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate generally to a communication between a user equipment (“UE”) and a plurality of evolved Node Bs (“eNBs”). A UE may be adapted to operate in a dual connectivity mode on respective wireless cells provided by first and second eNBs. The UE may communicate with a first eNB in a first frequency band. The UE may communicate with a second eNB in a second frequency band. The first eNB may detect that the second frequency band is unavailable. Based on this detection, the first eNB may notify the UE that communication in the second frequency band is no longer available. In response, the UE may control a radio to cease communication in the second frequency band. Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.

  • Publication number: 20170041915
Abstract: Technology described herein provides systems and technologies that help avoid waste of wireless network resources due to frequent losses of wireless connectivity with energy-harvesting devices (EHDs). An energy-harvesting-indicator communication can be sent from a wireless device to a cellular base station to inform the cellular base station that the wireless device is an EHD. The cellular base station can preserve context information and/or DL data pertaining to a wireless connection with the EHD when a wireless connection is lost due to a temporarily low level of available energy at the EHD. The context information and/or DL data can be preserved by the cellular base station until the period of time elapsed exceeds a threshold time value. Upon receiving a connection-resumption communication from the EHD, the cellular base station can use preserved context information to restore the wireless connection and proceed to send preserved DL data to the EHD.

  • Patent number: 9560558
Abstract: A proposed 3GPP LTE protocol enhancement disclosed herein enables an Evolved Node B (eNB) to perform a mass handoff of User Equipment from Licensed Shared Access (LSA) band spectrum to LTE Primary band spectrum without creating an over-the-air signaling surge by preventing individual handover messaging exchanges between the eNB and UEs affected by loss of LSA frequency band. A User Equipment (UE) comprises a transceiver configured to receive a broadcast paging message in a Licensed Shared Access (LSA) frequency band instructing the UE to move to a primary Long Term Evolution (LTE) frequency band from the LSA frequency band, receive system information comprising primary LTE frequency band information, extract handover parameters from the received system information for moving to the primary LTE frequency band, stop communicating on the LSA frequency band and synchronize communications with an Evolved Node B (eNB) associated with the primary LTE frequency band.

  • Publication number: 20160353337
Abstract: Technology for a target evolved node B (eNB) operable to facilitate handover is disclosed. The target eNB can receive a handover request message to hand over a user equipment (UE) from the source eNB to the target eNB. The handover request message can include an evolved packet system (EPS) bearer group identifier (ID) indicating an EPS group bearer of the source eNB and associated with the UE, a last UE indicator to indicate whether the UE is a last UE of the source eNB to use the EPS group bearer, and a downlink (DL) traffic indicator to indicate whether the DL traffic for the UE during handover is negligible. The target eNB can perform a handover procedure to establish a connection with the UE based on at least one of the EPS bearer group ID, the last UE indicator, or the DL traffic indicator included in the handover request message.

  • Patent number: 9485664
Abstract: A 3GPP LTE protocol enhancement realizes the full benefit of proposed dynamic frequency sharing systems by enhancing current idle mode cell selection mechanisms to support Licensed Shared Access (LSA) cell selection of idle User Equipment (UE) when LSA frequency bands are reclaimed by incumbents. A paging message field, LSAUnavailable is transmitted by Evolved Node Bs for those UEs operating in an idle state. Paging message transmission is repeated for robustness. UEs are also enabled to immediately identify LSA unavailability when a paging message notification of LSA unavailability to idle UEs cannot be transmitted and/or received. A UE comprises a processor and transceiver configured to receive, on a Licensed Shared Access (LSA) frequency band, a paging message notifying the UE of (LSA) frequency band reclamation. The UE performs immediate cell reselection to vacate the reclaimed LSA frequency band and move to the UE operator's licensed primary Long Term Evolution frequency band.
