  • Publication number: 20170057658
Abstract: A method and system for alerting a pilot to a potential unanticipated LTE with simple intuitive symbology on the cockpit display is provided. The provided method and system evaluates rotorcraft airspeed, wind velocity, wind direction, and rotorcraft height above ground to predict several scenarios for LTE zones. The provided method and system overlays or superimposes simple intuitive symbology on the existing PFD and/or MFD to alert a pilot to a potential LTE.

  • Publication number: 20170032571
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for displaying information on a heads up display (HUD). A background image is captured with a camera. A plurality of regions of the background image are analyzed to determine a region-wise image attribute for each of the plurality of regions. A symbology having a symbology attribute is generated and overlaid on an overlay region of the background image to generate a heads up display image. The overlay region is one of the plurality of regions of the background image. The symbology attribute is adjusted based on the region-wise image attribute of the overlay region to generate an adjusted heads up display image. The adjusted heads up display image is displayed on the HUD.

  • Patent number: 9533772
Abstract: A visual search assistance system and related operating method are disclosed. An exemplary embodiment of the method dynamically determines a desired line-of-sight vector from an occupant of a vehicle to a visual target, and dynamically determines, with an onboard tracking system of the vehicle, an actual line-of-sight vector for the occupant of the vehicle. The actual line-of-sight vector is temporally associated with the desired line-of-sight vector. The method compares the actual line-of-sight vector against the desired line-of-sight vector to obtain a difference measurement, and generates a notification when the obtained difference measurement exceeds a threshold value. The notification provides guidance to redirect a gaze direction of the occupant toward the visual target.

  • Patent number: 9523580
Abstract: A system and method for displaying symbology that is indicative of the direction of a landing site is provided. The provided system and method generate and display, prior to the rotorcraft reaching the MAP, symbology that conveys visual guidance that may be quickly and easily comprehended by a pilot. The provided system and method reduce the pilot's visual scan area and associated search time, reducing cognitive workload and increasing situational awareness.

  • Publication number: 20160208179
Abstract: Deep desulfurization of hydrocarbon feeds containing undesired organosulfur compounds to produce a hydrocarbon product having low levels of sulfur, i.e., 15 ppmw or less of sulfur, is achieved by flashing the feed at a target cut point temperature to obtain two fractions. A first fraction contains refractory organosulfur compounds, which boil at or above the target cut point temperature. A second fraction boiling below the target cut point temperature is substantially free of refractory sulfur-containing compounds. The second fraction is contacted with a hydrodesulfurization catalyst in a hydrodesulfurization reaction zone operating under mild conditions to reduce the quantity of organosulfur compounds to an ultra-low level. The first fraction is contacted with an oxidizing agent and an active metal catalyst in an oxidation reaction zone to convert the refractory organosulfur compounds to oxidized organosulfur compounds.

  • Patent number: 9361691
Abstract: A system is provided for detecting misalignment between a helipad and a structure associated with the helipad. The system comprises a first database that includes first structure data, which data can comprise a location of the first structure. The system can further comprise a second database that can include second structure data, where the second structure data can comprise a location of the second structure. The second structure can comprise a helipad situated atop the first structure. The system can further comprise a processor coupled to receive the first structure data from the first database and the second structure data from the second database and can be configured, upon receipt of the first data structure and the second data structure: determine a correlation coefficient based upon a degree of overlap of the first volumetric model and the second volumetric model, and selectively generate an alert based upon the correlation coefficient.

  • Publication number: 20160155435
Abstract: Aircraft systems and methods for reducing and detecting read-back and hear-back errors are provided. The method comprises obtaining contextual data about a current context of the aircraft. A dialog comprising an inbound voice and an outbound voice communication are transcribed into text using the contextual data. The text of the inbound voice communication is compared with the text of the outbound voice communication to determine if a discrepancy between the respective texts exists. A discrepancy alert is outputted if the discrepancy is determined to exist, indicating a read-back error.

  • Patent number: 9354631
Abstract: A method of operating an industrial plant having processing units on a production floor which includes a wireless network including a network server having stored a two-dimensional (2D) plantwide model and a 3D plantwide model showing the processing units. At least a first worker is on the production floor. The first worker is provided a first handheld computing device having a wireless transceiver, a processor programmed to implement a model rendering algorithm stored in an associated memory, and a display. Based on a task defined for the first worker to execute involving at least a first processing unit of the processing units, a model portion of the 2D plantwide model or 3D plantwide model involved in the task including the first processing unit is identified. An image representation of the model portion is then rendered on the display.

  • Patent number: 9322491
Abstract: Economical heavy concrete weight coating is used as a weight coating for submarine pipes. The developed economical heavy concrete weight includes steel slag and iron ore as aggregate. Steel slag can contain iron and thus have a higher density than some other types of slag. By supplementing the steel slag with iron ore as aggregate, the economical heavy concrete weight coating can have a higher density than a coating having just slag. Economical heavy concrete weight coating can have a density greater than 190 pcf.
