  • Patent number: 9781687
Abstract: A method for controlling transmission power in accordance with a total transmission power limit in a multi-radio wireless communication device including a master radio and a slave radio is provided. The method can include the wireless communication device determining, at the master radio, a transmission power of the master radio. The method can further include the wireless communication device providing information indicative of the transmission power of the master radio from the master radio to the slave radio. The method can additionally include determining, at the slave radio, an allowable transmission power for the slave radio. A sum of the allowable transmission power and the transmission power of the master radio may not exceed the total transmission power limit.

  • Patent number: 9743223
Abstract: Electronic devices may communicate with each other using a “conducted RF link.” Such a conducted RF link is essentially a link that utilizes a conductor or cable that facilitates communication between electronic devices. • Patent number: 9717109
Abstract: To establish a connection between electronic devices some embodiments include a system, method, and/or computer program product for password pairing user-interface devices in wireless proximity. A first electronic device (e.g., a keyboard) transmits an advertising packet, and receives a password, where the password has been generated by a second electronic device (e.g., a smartphone) and the password enables pairing between the first electronic device and the second electronic device. The first electronic device transmits a message including the password to the second electronic device, where the second electronic device is within a predefined range of the first electronic device. In some embodiments the first device receives a command from the second electronic device to transition to a discovery mode, transitions to the discovery mode, and transmits a confirmation to the second electronic device that the first device is in the discovery mode.

  • Publication number: 20170179988
Abstract: An electronic device may include wireless circuitry that is configured to transmit wireless signals during operation. A maximum transmit power level may be established that serves as a cap on how much power is transmitted from the electronic device. Adjustments may be made to the maximum transmit power level in real time based on sensor signals and other information on the operating state of the electronic device. The sensor signals may include motion signals from an accelerometer. The sensor signals may also include ultrasonic sound detected by a microphone. Device orientation data may be used by the device to select whether to measure the ultrasonic sound using a front facing or rear facing microphone. Maximum transmit power level may also be adjusted based on whether or not sound is playing through an ear speaker in the device.

  • Patent number: 9635487
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for provisioning wireless devices for operation in one or more networks. In one embodiment, a provisioning service may provide access client (e.g., Subscriber Identity Module) data to a secure element in the wireless user device. The device may be preloaded with a provisioning SIM profile. The device may use the provisioning profile to roam onto a carrier, and communicate with a provisioning service, which may present the user with a list of available wireless carriers, such as carriers that service the user's current geographic location. In response to a user selection, the provisioning service may load a SIM profile associated with the selected carrier onto the secure element. The loaded SIM profile can be used to obtain wireless service from the selected carrier. The user may add multiple SIM profiles, and/or may delete SIM profiles.

  • Patent number: 9635677
Abstract: Devices at either end of a wireless communication link are each configured to support multiple different link settings. During communication, a device that is receiving data can monitor the signal quality and initiate a dynamic transition to a new link setting if performance of the current link setting falls below a lower threshold or exceeds an upper threshold. Dynamic link adaptation can be implemented within a wireless communication interface of the device and can be transparent to application and/or operating system software executing on the device.

  • Patent number: 9596330
Abstract: Electronic devices may be provided that contain wireless communications circuitry. The wireless communications circuitry may include radio-frequency transceiver circuitry and antenna structures. An electronic device may include a display mounted within a housing. A peripheral conductive member may run around the edges of the display and housing. Dielectric-filled gaps may divide the peripheral conductive member into individual segments. A ground plane may be formed within the housing from conductive housing structures, printed circuit boards, and other conductive elements. The ground plane and the segments of the peripheral conductive member may form antennas in upper and lower portions of the housing. The radio-frequency transceiver circuitry may implement receiver diversity using both the upper and lower antennas. The lower antenna may be used in transmitting signals. The upper antenna may be tuned using a tunable matching circuit.

  • Patent number: 9549387
Abstract: The present techniques relate to reducing interference on conducted RF links by utilizing country information to determine where an electronic device is located, and using such information to select sub-bands or channels that are not available for wireless transmission to be used for transmission of signals via the conducted RF links. Because the conducted RF links operate on frequency bands that are different from the frequency bands used for wireless communications in a given country, there is less likelihood that wireless communications will create interference in the signals being transmitted via the conducted RF links.

  • Publication number: 20160374028
Abstract: A host device is configured to increase the power output by an internal amplifier of its wireless chipset in response to requests from a remote device. Once the internal amplifier has reached its maximum power, further requests for power increases from the remove device do not similarly lead to automatic power increases being delivered by a external amplifier of the host device. Rather, the host device determines the strength of the link between it and the remote device. If the signal strength is too low, it is an indication that the signal power output by the remote device may not be sufficient to maintain the link and that any further increases in signal power by the host device will have little or no effect on the link. However, if the signal strength from the remote device is sufficient, the host device determines an error rate between it and the remote device. If the error rate is sufficiently low to maintain the link, then the host device will not further increase its signal output power.

  • Patent number: 9516493
Abstract: This application relates to systems, methods, and apparatus for testing operability of a mobile device with a reader device. In some embodiments, a testing system is set forth for automatically placing the mobile device proximate to the reader device in order to initiate a wireless transaction between the mobile device and the reader device. Depending on whether the mobile device is determined to be operable with the reader device, the testing system can automatically place the mobile device proximate to another reader device for testing. In this way, reductions in testing time can be manifested as a result of automating the testing process.

  • Publication number: 20160353380
Abstract: A technique for reducing interference on conducted RF links involves a determination of active wireless channels in an electronic device. For example, the device can determine whether there are any active cellular, WiFi, and/or Bluetooth channels. If so, any active channels can be removed from a list of possible channels that can be used for generating the RF signals for the conducted RF link. If any idle channels remain available, one or more may be selected for use for the conducted RF link. Those idle channels having a higher offset from any active channels may be given a greater weight in the selection since they should be less likely to be subject to interference. If not, one of the least crowded active channels may be selected for use for the conducted RF link.
