Abstract: An apparatus and method of configuring a target area within a touchable item provided on a touchscreen, the target area for a touchable item being defined in accordance with an angle of approach employed by a user of the touchscreen to select the touchable item and a display location for the touchable item within the touchscreen. Configuration of the target area includes modeling a shape for the target area, determining a center point for the target area within the touchable item, and determining an orientation for the target area within the touchable item.

Abstract: A method for cleaning a touch screen display in a touch screen device without inadvertently activating a feature or inputting unwanted data by touching the touch screen display. The method operates by entering a clean touch screen mode wherein individual touches of the touch screen display are not recognized by the touch screen device. This allows the user to clean the touch screen display by wiping it with a cloth without inadvertently activating a feature or inputting unwanted data. The touch screen display turns bright white when it is in the clean touch screen mode to illuminate dirt and oil on the touch screen display to allow for easier cleaning of the touch screen display. The touch screen device exits the clean touch screen mode in response to input from the user. The user can depress any key on a keyboard attached to the touch screen device or the user can simultaneously touch opposite corners of the touch screen display to exit the clean touch screen mode.

Abstract: An apparatus and method of formatting for display within a designated list window of a touchscreen, the list including a plurality of list members with a touchable element and text associated therewith. The method includes the following steps: setting a minimum required distance between the touchable elements of adjacent list members; setting an area for each touchable element of the list members, wherein the area has a vertical component and a horizontal component; positioning a first list member within the list window; and, spacing each subsequent list member vertically and horizontally from an immediately preceding list member such that the minimum required distance between adjacent touchable elements is maintained. The vertical spacing between adjacent touchable elements may be set, with the horizontal spacing between touchable elements being determined from the minimum required distance between adjacent touchable elements, the interline spacing, and the vertical component of the touchable elements.

Abstract: A display control structure for a data storage device. The device includes a screen portion for visually displaying at least a part of two different virtual display pages of the data adjacent a separating line. The display control structure includes touch-responsive resizing areas adjacent to and on opposite sides of the separating line with oppositely pointing indicators which, when touched by a user, cause the device to move the separating line in the direction of the indicator in the touched resizing area. The resizing areas when touched by a user may also cause the device to move the separating line in response to movement of the user's touch in a direction perpendicular to the separating line. Scrolling areas extend from the resizing areas in opposite directions perpendicular to the separating line with bar indicators in each smaller than the scrolling areas.

Abstract: A telecommunications device includes a first telephone line enabling access to a telecommunications network and a second telephone line enabling access to a telecommunications network. A selection apparatus is included which in response to an entered outgoing call number and a user generated input enables selection of one of the first and second telephone lines for supporting a call connection between the telecommunications device and the outgoing called number over the telecommunications network.
