  • Publication number: 20080187448
Abstract: A pump intake apparatus for directing fluid flow to a pump. The pump intake assembly includes a pump intake column having a pump bell and a pump intake pit. The intake pit includes an upper intake pit encircling the pump intake column and has a tapered inner surface providing the upper intake pit with a decreasing cross-sectional area to accelerate the fluid flow toward the pump bell. The upper intake pit may include at least one vane extending inwardly from the inner surface of the upper intake pit to suppress rotation of a fluid flowing through the upper intake pit. The intake pit further includes a lower intake pit floor positioned substantially below the pump bell and including a projection member upwardly extending from a central region of the lower intake pit floor toward the pump bell. The lower intake pit floor has a substantially curvilinear surface interconnecting the upper intake pit to the projection member to redirect and accelerate fluid flow toward the pump bell.

  • Patent number: 7284821
Abstract: A media print system includes two or more printhead carriages adapted to print on a medium in a print area, the print area including two or more print regions. Each of the printhead carriages is adapted to print in one or more of the print regions. The system also includes a controller adapted to reconfigure a positioning of the two or more printhead carriages in a configuration selected from a predetermined set of configurations. The controller is adapted to reconfigure the positioning each time a predetermined criterion is satisfied.

  • Publication number: 20070052761
Abstract: Systems, methodologies, media, and other embodiments associated with clearing silicate based kogation from heating resistors employed in ink jet printing are described. One exemplary system embodiment includes a silicate kogation clearing logic configured to pulse the heating resistor at a high frequency and low pulse width to heat the resistor surface to a temperature below that required to form an ink bubble and thus below that required to eject a drop of ink. Heating the resistor facilitates breaking bonds between the silicate based kogation and the heating resistor.

  • Publication number: 20060044345
Abstract: A printhead capable of printing in multiple print modes is herein disclosed. The printhead includes multiple pens that are movable independent of one another. The collective line of the multiple pens is wider than a sheet of recording media upon which an image is to be printed and provides for at least some overlap between the respective pens. The pens of the printhead may be aligned so as to accommodate malfunctioning printing elements in one or more of the pens. Where malfunctions in the respective pens are such that the pens may not be arranged so as to print an image on the recording media across the full width of thereof, the pens may be arranged to operate as a serial type printhead in which a media handling mechanism moves the recording media past the printhead multiple times to effect printing of the image.

  • Patent number: 5939516
Abstract: Modified polyethylene terephthalate polymers, particularly suitable for making carbonated drinks or mineral water bottles by injection (stretch) blow moulding, include a small proportion (from 0.007 to 0.08 mole %) of residues of a polyfunctional hydroxyl compound such as pentaerythritol as a chain branching agent and have (after solid phase polymerisation processing) melt viscosity values of from 300 to 1050 Pa.s (3000 to 10500 Poise) at 295.degree. C. (approximately Intrinsic Viscosity 0.6 to 0.9). The polymers also preferably include from 0.5 to 5 mole % of residues derived from a chain orientation disrupting monomer such as iso-phtalic acid. Best results are obtained in restricted ranges of polymer viscosity, hydroxyl compound and also chain orientation disrupting monomer level. As compared with conventional PET the polymers have the advantage that solid phase polymerisation rates are much improved.

  • Patent number: 5877204
Abstract: The present invention relates to compounds which are useful as sunscreens. The compounds persist on the skin for much longer than conventional sunscreens because they comprise a Michael acceptor linked directly or indirectly to a chromophore. The Michael acceptor is capable of undergoing a conjugate addition reaction with thiol groups present in cysteine residues of keratin and thus the compound is chemically bound to the skin and will not be removed by immersion in water.

  • Patent number: 5721445
Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing improved latch-up immunity in a semiconductor device such as a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) integrated circuit. An exemplary apparatus includes a first region of semiconductor material of a first conductivity type, a well of semiconductor material formed in the first region and having a second conductivity type opposite to the first conductivity type, a first MOS transistor formed in the well and including a source region and a drain region formed of semiconductor material of the first conductivity type, and a second MOS transistor formed in the first region and having a source region and a drain region formed of semiconductor material of the second conductivity type. A conductive material or other suitable routing means is connected between the source region of one of the first or second MOS transistors and a corresponding voltage supply input of the device.
