  • Patent number: 7216894
Abstract: An occupant determination device for a vehicle seat includes a load sensor provided at a seat body, a controller for calculating a detection load value based on a load value output from the load sensor and for determining an occupant sitting on the vehicle seat by comparing the detection load value and a predetermined threshold value, a determining means for determining whether or not a child restraint system is equipped on the vehicle seat based on a variation of the detection load value and a detecting means for detecting whether or not the vehicle is stopped. When a vehicle stop condition is not detected by the detecting means, the determining means does not determine whether or not the child restraint system is equipped on the seat.

  • Patent number: 7177746
Abstract: An occupant-classifying system includes a load-detecting device assembled at a vehicle seat for detecting a load value imposed on the vehicle seat and for outputting the load value, and a controller for determining whether the vehicle seat is in an occupied state, or in an unoccupied state on a basis of the load value outputted from the load-detecting device. A seat occupied state is classified into plural modes defined on a basis of plural threshold load values. The controller is configured to determine the seat occupied state when the load value falls within a specific mode among the plural modes and lasts for a predetermined time duration defined for each specific mode. The controller changes one of the threshold load values which define a boundary between the selected mode and another, neighboring mode, whether occupied mode or unoccupied mode.

  • Publication number: 20070027599
Abstract: A headrest apparatus for a vehicle includes a headrest rear portion, a headrest front portion being movable between a fully closed position and a fully open position, a driving means for moving the headrest front portion, a capacitance sensor provided at the headrest front portion for detecting a change in capacitance, and a controlling means for controlling the driving means and comparing an amount of change in capacitance detected by the capacitance sensor to a predetermined threshold value when the headrest front portion moves towards the fully open position. The controlling means determines that the headrest front portion is positioned close to a head of an occupant when the amount of change in capacitance exceeds the threshold value. Further, the controlling means detects a capacitance change per unit moving distance of the capacitance sensor at a predetermined timing and changes the threshold value based on the detected result.

  • Patent number: 7032700
Abstract: An occupant weight detecting device includes plural load detecting device and a signal processing device. The plural load detecting device outputs a load signal in response to largeness of load applied to the seat, and the signal processing device sets an occupant load detection range. The signal processing device outputs a variable primary load detection signal based on the load signal in case of the load signal being within the occupant load detection range and a constant secondary load detection signal in case of the load signal being out of the occupant load detection range. The occupant weight detecting device further includes a control device to which the primary load detection signal or the secondary load detection signal is inputted. The control device determines that error is generated on the load detecting device when the signal processing device continues to output the secondary load detection signal during predetermined time.

  • Patent number: 6922152
Abstract: In a passenger weight measuring apparatus, each of bend parts of front and rear brackets for supporting a seat to a vehicle main body side becomes bent and deformed in response to the load applied by the weight of the passenger sit in the seat. A load sensor on each the bend part detects the load based on the bend deformation and outputs a voltage signal of magnitude responsive to the load to a signal processor. The processor generates a load detection signal clamped in the voltage range corresponding to a preset passenger weight load range from the voltage signal and outputs the load detection signal to an output terminal. When the detected load is a collision load set in a load region out of the load range, the processor outputs an abnormal load detection signal different from the load detection signal to the same output terminal.

  • Patent number: 6876299
Abstract: An occupant determining device includes a load detecting sensor provided on a seat body and a controller. The controller calculates a detected load value based on an output value of the load detecting sensor and performs occupant determination based on the detected load value.
